This is garbage, pure and simple! It's just another rip off of the constant stream of medical hospital dramas. The difference with this one is that it's really done extremely poorly to the point where most of the incidents bear no relation to medical reality. It's as if there were no medical adviser on the set! It would really be a stretch to believe that hospitals in Spain are so poorly run, but then again, maybe that is the case! As with all of the TV series from Spain, the sound is poorly engineered so that the dialog is mostly inaudible. They really need to hire sound engineers or use modern equipment and technology to ensure clarity of the soundtrack!
I'm a fan of medical dramas. E. R., House, The Resident, Chicago Med... I watch them all and am willing to suspend disbelief.
I also loved Transplant and wish it would come back.
I am not a medical professional but have interacted a lot with the medical-industrial complex.
Some of what goes on here medically is silly. But I watched all the episodes (in Spanish with English subtitles) and found myself liking the characters and being interested in their lives.
There's nothing here original but TBH in the current U. S. shows there isn't either. All the territory has been covered. Moreover it's predictable but... sic.
So I thought it was okay and recommend it if you like medical dramas and are willing to put up with the sex and the gore (both more extreme I think).

Even though I usually dislike doctor shows and the stereotypical egotistical personalities of doctors usually portrayed in them, I decided to give this one a chance because of two reasons:
1) Najwa Nimri, who is a real chameleon and one hell of an actress. 2)The show, being promoted as a protest against the privatization of the health care system did seem more promising than your average superficial doctor drama.
The only positive point is that the majority of the cast give great performances, with a special mention to Ana Rayo too, who managed to make some scenes watchable, with her raw and sturdy performance, as Leo. But no acting talent can save these ridiculous caricature roles, the biggest caricature of all being that of Segura's , Nimri's character! What a waste of charm and charisma!
The plot is an absolute mess, too , full of cringe worthy dialogues and coincidences, all in an effort to add suspense to an uninspired drama. It is so badly written that it kept me rolling my eyes and I even had to skip more than a few scenes to bear till the last episode, which made me wish I had just stopped watching.
I want my time back. Don't waste yours either, there are much better things to watch than this , even on Netflix. Many more descent spanish series too. If only talented actors stopped wasting their talent on stupid roles! It beats me as to why people with actual careers would choose to be in such a meaningless, shallow and even aesthetically awkward projects like this.
P. S. I still think it would be interesting to have a really inspired effort to shed some light on this aspect of public health, especially in the Mediterranean, hopefully with a real script and real characters next time.

The series is a mess. If it was meant to be a critique of the privatization of public hospitals in Spain, it certainly did a disservice to public healthcare. Characters without discernment, completely lacking values in fulfilling their duties. Ridiculous and forced situations. Did they really want to defend public healthcare with these storylines? I imagine that progressive Spanish unionists who are staunch defenders of public healthcare must be very disappointed and angry with this series. If their initiatives are ridiculous, this series makes them look even worse. Not everything goes when it comes to seeking attention or protesting.
"Respira" falls disappointingly flat, borrowing heavily from the ambiance of "Elite" but failing to capture the intrigue and sophistication that made the latter a hit. The show's atmosphere, while attempting to evoke a sense of rebellious glamor, feels like a pale imitation of its predecessor. The storyline, which one might hope would provide some unique twist or engaging drama, instead trudges through a series of predictably dull and uninspired plot points. Characters lack depth and fail to evoke any real empathy or connection, making it hard to invest emotionally in their journeys. The pacing is painfully slow, with many scenes dragging on without adding meaningful content or advancing the plot. Moreover, the filming techniques seem amateurish at best, with awkward camera angles and poorly executed transitions that disrupt the flow and further detract from the viewing experience. Overall, "Respira" is a tedious watch that leaves much to be desired in terms of originality and entertainment value. It stands as a weak attempt to replicate the success of "Elite," but ends up being a chore to get through. Skip this one if you're looking for something engaging and well-crafted.
