Great start but takes a nosedive after the intermission

This movie had a great start and actually has you engaged up until the intermission. After that point it just seems like either the director changed or was totally confused and lost. The last 20-30 minutes were not needed and a waste of time. The message was clear and had good meaning but executed badly after the intermission.

Acting is decent by Sharavari and okay by the villain. John was good as he did justice to the role and action sequences. Too many songs, although I liked the Holi one, they were not needed. If the movie continued into with the 2nd half as it did in the first I would've given this a 9 star.

Disappointed

I like to watch John's action movies. He his best at doing actions if we don't talk about Tiger and Vidyut, the Martial artists. But Nikhil Advani also disappointed. John Abraham seems having less expressions in many scenes. Actually John has limited acting range. Only Yash Chopra could make John act like a pro in his movies like Dhoom, Newyork, Pathaan etc. But in nearly all movies his acting and dialogue delivery suck! But in some scenes his acting seems very subtle. But definitely his acting range is limited. (Though better than some over actors like Varun Dhawan).

Now Nikhil Advani again is culprit. Story was very over the top! If action was meant to be over the top it was fine but story was also very hard to digest. In a scene.. the goons attack John and John gets unconscious. They catch John and Sharvari that is OK. But they leave her father and uncle? 😅. What was that? In many scenes dialogues and monologues seem very outdated and boring. Nikhil Advani is the one who made D- Day and Batla House.. both the amazing movies. But this time he disappointed Ashish Vidyarthi was wasted in the movie. He did nothing in the movie. Any other actor could have given that casual performance.

Now coming to the positive points.. John as an action hero was very good. He seems strong and actions really suits him. Abhishek Banerjee was at his best. He did more than what I expected. Abhishek's acting uplifted the whole movie. Now the strongest point was Sharvari's acting. In every scene... she meant business! She was fabulous. After so many years I watched a truly commendable acting. In every situation she acted like a very talented actor. Want to watch more of her works in future.

Movie is somewhat lengthy but you don't feel the length because it is definitely engaging. I have highlighted some flaws in it. But this is definitely a one time watch!

All the best to John for his upcoming projects. But this was definitely not among his best works.

Typical legacy of Bollywood piracy!

Seems highly influenced by Riders of Justice! At least have the heart to acknowledge even if it's a weak copy! Must commend the attempt and making it contextual to the region in its storyline. The fight sequences could have been more believable if they had consulted an armed forces Commando.

The irony in the story of the enemy within is palpable. We need a pragmatic, workable and commercially viable solution to root out castism and racial inequality from human society.

The idea of a powerful and relatively uncorrupt judiciary is the holy grail of uplifting contemporary society from the depths of filth to relative utopia.

Emotions Hit Hard, But the Action Falls Flat

Vedaa offers a mixed experience, led by Sharavari's compelling performance. She delivers a range of emotions and excels in her role with strong expressions and good dialogue delivery, truly carrying the film's emotional weight. John Abraham, though mostly expressionless, surprisingly fits his character, where a lack of emotion is justified.

The first half of the movie works well, keeping the audience engaged with a balanced narrative. However, the film takes a nosedive when the typical, outdated one-man-army action scenes take over, dragging down the overall impact. This formulaic action, where one character single-handedly takes on entire forces, feels repetitive and unrealistic, making it hard to stay invested.

While the screenplay shows promise, the execution, especially with the action sequences, hurts the film's flow. Additionally, the background score fails to elevate the tense moments, adding to the overall drop in quality during the second half.

In summary, Vedaa starts strong but falters, particularly in its action scenes and sound design. It's a film with both high points and significant shortcomings, and I'd agree with a rating of around 6/10.

Not the Script which took 6 years

Few scenes seemed borrowed from Sairat. The script obviously doesn't seem which took 6 years to write (Nikkhil Advani & Aseem Arora).

The Idea of the plot was to show the state of places were Illegal Heads and untouchability was still followed.

The Direction lacked at some points, the action and fight direction were not forced but could have been better.

The fight scene after the unnecessary item song gave audience a boost to the seemingly dormant protagonist, although negligent of the evidence.

Abhishek Banerjee's performance for the negative role was commendable enough.

Sharvari also did good job.

John maintained his monotonous appearance throughout the film.

Sharvari as Vedaa is the Oxygen in this Slow Narrative

*** Vedaa Hindi Movie Review ***

Directed by Nikhil Advani starring John Abraham , Sharvari Abhishek Banerjee in the lead role.

A social message narrated in a forced manner backed by Sharvari' s stellar performance. ⭐ ⭐ Half ⭐

Vedaa talks about a Dalit girl who is being abused by the upper caste & how she reacts & how Abhimanyu played by John plays a crucial role in her life is what the movie talks about.

The 1st half of the movie goes in a slow pace with some situations of atrocities done upon central character & her family whereas the 2nd half accelerates with fights, bullet firing, car chase. Climax could have been made better with logics.

Performance wise, Sharvari's stellar performance could be seen. She was living into the character of Vedaa. Abhishek Banerjee as antagonist. As i watched his performance in Stree 2 and Vedaa a shift of performance could be seen & he perfectly nailed the character in this movie. Nothing unique performance could be seen from John but for such kind of action to pull, he fits the slot.

Talking about the story telling, slow paced story telling could have been trimmed as one point we had been detached from the movie.

Overall a slow narrative thereby a missed opportunity for a success on a long weekend.

A Headache of A Movie With No Believable Scenes

I was waiting to watch this movie on the OTT platform. After seeing it I thank my stars for not watching it on the big screen after paying Rs. 200, which I think is the ridiculously lowest movie ticket nowadays. The movie is filled with action packed scenes but not a single scene is crafted in a believable way. The screenplay is crass and the action scenes are hard to believe. I think nowadys filmakers are only interested in making super hero movies and this is exactly what it has turned out to be. Even superhero movies in Hollywood have a semblance of believability in their action scenes. I was pained to see Sharvari give a good performance in this ridiculous movie. Some of the worth-watching movies that John Abraham had produced earlier were Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe, and Batla House that had some semblance of intelligent scenes in them. They were worth-watching to a great extent. I fail to understand why a filmaker has to nosedive and insult the intelligence of his audience to this extent.

Definitely worth a watch!

John Abraham is massively underrated! The movie is really good. It's always pleasant to see good action movies made in India and Vedaa (2024) is one of them.

The film has a good blend of different genres... Mainly and namely Drama, Thriller and ofcourse Action! The story too is on an important topic which though many of us in the city may not be able to relate to completely but I won't be surprised if it still is very much a reality in certain parts of our land and those who have suffered from it will appreciate this movie even more.

Though at times the plot can seem predictable, the movie is never boring and the entire team led by John Abraham as the lead hold the attention of the audience very well.

I was disappointed that there weren't more people in the theatre to watch this movie. Such films need to be promoted. The Indian film industry has a lot of potential and until good content is appreciated and most importantly correctly, our industry won't be able to grow well.

Regarding John Abraham I also watched another movie of his about two years ago in which he is a super soldier and I liked that too. John is easily atleast one of the best Action Stars not only in Bollywood but pan India. It's surprising to know that such a star didn't even intend to become an actor growing up. Anyway good for him and us too because he has been a part of many good projects.

To conclude I wish the entire team of Vedaa all the best and I hope that along with being a critical success the movie is also a box office hit so that producers in India won't shy away from making good movies no matter who the star is. Once again I'll state that this movie was REALLY GOOD and you need to watch it especially if love Drama/ Action films, because if you don't then you will definitely regret not watching this good an Indian movie in a theatre.

Vedaa (2024) is directed by Nikkhil Advani, written by Aseem Arora, stars mainly John Abraham, Sharvari, Tamannaah Bhatia, Kshitij Chauhan, Abhishek Banerjee and was released on the 78th Independence Day of our country India i.e. 15th August, 2024.

A good message but not so impressive execution

Another of this year's Independence Day releases, and it has bitten the dust too. However, I've heard some good reviews, but watching it I have certain reservations.

Set in a patriarchal society plagued by casteism, untouchability, and honor killings, a Dalit girl must survive the so-called saviors of society. A court-martialed army officer finds himself in a situation where he must save her.

The story appears to be drawn from real-life situations, where people are still killed in the name of caste. It's a sad reality, of course. But as a movie, the pacing is flat, and you can predict everything beforehand. A story like this should be emotionally draining, but that doesn't happen here. The whole escape or "running away" sequence could have been made more interesting by showing some planning, plotting, or a cat-and-mouse game that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, director Nikkhil Advani missed the bus on that front.

John Abraham feels well-suited for such a role and does fine in his no-nonsense action hero avatar. Sharvari Wagh shows a lot of potential and portrays a complex character with much-needed grace and panache. The standout performance, however, is by Abhishek Banerjee, who is a welcome surprise in a negative role. He has truly nailed his part.

The songs are average, and even Mouni Roy's item number is a dud. The action sequences are decent but nothing extraordinary. The village setting and the overall backdrop of the narrative are well done and make the story feel believable. The climax kills the experience with its over the top execution with unnecessary dialogue baazi and cinematic liberalities.

If more effort had been put into the script to make it more thrilling, this same story could have reached greater heights. It's an average movie with decent performances, worth watching for the subject it addresses.

A real stroy turned to a joke!

The movie sets out with the intention of being a serious drama, aiming to shed light on issues of class inequality and the struggle to protect the innocent from oppression. It has all the elements of a compelling story that could provoke thought and stir emotions. However, the execution veers drastically off course, transforming what should have been a powerful narrative into an unintended parody.

From the very beginning, the film's dialogue and direction betray its dramatic intentions. The focus quickly shifts to showcasing the hero as an almost cartoonish figure, capable of dodging hundreds of bullets with ease. This portrayal not only strains credibility but also trivializes the very issues the movie is supposed to highlight. Instead of a tense, realistic exploration of social injustice, we are presented with a protagonist who seems invincible to the point of absurdity.

As a result, the film's initial promise is lost, and what could have been a meaningful commentary on class struggles turns into a spectacle of exaggerated heroics. The serious themes are overshadowed by the outlandish action sequences, and the film ultimately fails to resonate on the emotional or intellectual levels it aspired to. In the end, it's hard to take the movie seriously, as it devolves from a potentially impactful drama into something more akin to a farcical action flick.

Just worth every second spent ...

Living in an Independent India, not being able to understand how certain castes live, this movie is an eye opener and, a true form of art executed by John Abraham and the team. I thank the entire team on working on such a brilliant Indian movie after ages.

Vedha is a cinematic triumph that captivates with its intense storytelling, stunning visuals, and powerful performances. Set against a rich cultural backdrop, the film explores deep themes of love, loss, and redemption. The screenplay is tight, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish, and the pacing ensures that there's never a dull moment.

The lead actor delivers a stellar performance, bringing emotional depth to the character of Vedha. The supporting cast also shines, adding layers of complexity to the narrative. The film's direction is masterful, with each scene meticulously crafted to evoke the right emotions. The cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty of the film's setting and enhancing the overall experience.

The music score complements the film perfectly, resonating with the tone and elevating key moments. The film also excels in its technical aspects, with impressive production design, costume design, and visual effects that immerse the viewer in the world of Vedha.

Vedha is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates quality cinema. It's a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll, leaving you with plenty to ponder and appreciate. Highly recommended!

A good message with no execution.

This film is supposed to be one of those film's which provide a positive message at the end, it does deliver the message but in the worst way possible. From the starting of this film John Abraham has had 0 expressions on his face. He fails to express the feelings of the character properly, his dialogue delievery was on the point but the dialogues itself seemed akward at the situation.

Abhishek Banerjee and Sharvari are the main highlight actors of this films, both have shown impressive acting, the emotions on their face could be felt from a mile away.

The film tries to push in 2 songs in the first half itself, which was not really necessary.

This leads to poor screenplay, the film has its ups and downs, and kindles around it a lot. The first half being 1hr 30mins long makes the film feel very long.

The action is just over the top, the action scenes are just absurd and sometimes comedic. John Abraham literally takes out a stearing wheel from a car while he is driving a bike.

Don't get me wrong, the action is above average, but action was really necessary for a film like this, Removing John's character and just making it a drama film where Sharvari's struggles were showed alone would have been better.

Good one time watch.

Slow and predictable

Vedaa is an age old depiction of a war between white and black, which we have been witnessing from last 3 decades to say the least. The characters are either completely white or completely black. Nikhil Adwani is still getting to direct movies is a big shock to me as I don't remember what significant work has he done after kal ho na ho, which has completed its 20 years recently. The director chose a good subject to make a movie but the approach is so unrealistic that it leaves you frustrated at various parts. When it comes to the cast John Abrahim is the biggest disappointment, Shravari did a good job but Abhishek Banerjee steals the show, Tamanna has literally nothing to do in the movie.

A fun old school masala action flick

Vedaa is a fun time pass old school masala action flick. John Abraham is still the same charismatic action hero of hits like Rocky Handsome, Satyamev Jayate, Batla House etc but continues to be plagued by an unfortunate run of box office flops as lead actor despite his blockbuster turn as the villain of Pathaan. John is pretty convincing as the movie's court-martialed Army Major who has lost desire to live. Sharvari Wagh is also pretty good in her role as the movie's titular character whose struggle gives John's Abhimanyu a reason to exist.

However the real star of the movie is Abhishek Banerjee who gives yet another uncharacteristically menacing portrayal of the movie's villain after his shocking turn in last year's thriller Apurva. Vedaa was completely overshadowed by the year's biggest blockbuster Stree 2 which also released on the same day. It is just amazing to see the range shown by Abhishek Banerjee in both these movies. He is perfect as the lovable simpleton Jana in Stree 2 and truly repulsive as the casteist village chief in Vedaa. This is pure diversity, skills and talent on display.

Ashish Vidyarthi is also at his usual best and once again on the receiving end of an army officer's power, valor and determination like the Brilliant realistic action flick "Kill" from a few months ago. Ashish is convincing as the villainous patriarch in both the movies and through him one can actually see the difference in the tone and style of a next gen gritty and realistic action movie vs a more traditional masala action movie. Kill is at a completely different level of action and even though Vedaa has its moments in comparison it is clearly a very old style, over the top action movie. I loved Kill but also enjoyed Vedaa. There is nothing new, different or exceptional in Vedaa but it is still a fun action flick if you like the John Abraham brand of masala action. 6.5/10.

A good watch!

So the problem is that John Abraham has ruffled a lot of feathers by criticising the big guns in the recent years and addressed their hypocrisy. So all you can see is the troll army belonging to these loser big guns dissing his movies every time. Yes of of course he has made some below average movies but every movie is not bad. This one is a decent watch with action scenes which could be better but nothing out of range with the other movies made in Bollywood say for example Jawan or Pathan! So if this movie is dissed as believable why are those movies praised by the same people?

For me I need to relax in a movie and enjoy it for what it is! I enjoyed Pathan and questioned my life during Jawan! This movie by John entertained me and of course Banerjee and sharwari stole the show.

John is a great human being and makes a good action hero. The storyline was good and the entertainment value was great. So for me it was an absolute win!

To the haters, I suggest the same stuff if was made by one of the big guns or say in Hollywood you would be cheering and spending your rupees.

Great to see John Baba do well.

Don't watche

It's a horrible movie and don't watch it. Don't watch this movie I went into this movie with low expectations, and somehow it managed to sink even lower. The plot-or lack thereof-is a jumbled mess of clichés and incoherent scenes that seem to have been thrown together in the hope that something might stick. Spoiler alert: nothing did.

The characters are as flat as cardboard, with motivations that change on a whim and dialogue so painful I found myself cringing more than once. The lead actor, bless their heart, tries their best, but even Meryl Streep couldn't save this trainwreck.

Bad Movie don't watch it.

ROCKY HANDSOME VIBE .OUR INDIAN John wick

You know what John and his acting skill is just mind boggling. Every action sequences in this movie is so electrifying.

Sharbari again nailed it with his acting after Maharaj,Munjya.

Went to watch this movie with my family great performance every cast.

Abhishek dada nailed as villain.

The stereotype shown in the society is Equally well built yes there's some tadka as it's a bollywood movie you know.

But due to its clash with stree 2 I don't think it'll survive.but I'll pray it works. Bcz this kind of content driven bollywood movie we wants. No doubt Stree2 is equally great.

Fight: 🔥 Emotional acting :💎 John in screen💛

Brutal depiction of cast discrimination

It is one of the best commercial movie, I have watched on cast discrimantion. Actors have acted well, however, use of Veda and her boxing skills could have been utilized in action sequences. It is sometimes brutal but then soft at some point.

Done to death!

Recently, during a forum, a journalist dared to confront John, pointing out that he has been playing the same roles for what feels like an eternity. Understandably, John was pissed off-truth often stings-and he retorted, claiming that this role was different. Ironically, the opposite is true. This movie, much like John's acting, has been done to death and then some.

It's neither a social documentary nor a compelling sports drama. The dialogues are cringeworthy, the acting is far from extraordinary, and the decisions made by the characters are illogical at best. The only thing this movie gets right is that it takes itself far too seriously. It's frustrating to watch Bollywood continue to present protagonists as ex-army officers just because they cast a steroid junkie in the lead role. There's no substance here-just brawn without brains.

In the end, it's a tired formula with nothing new to offer, and it's a shame that talent and creativity are taking a backseat to worn-out tropes.

Great Movie.

Great performance by whole cast. Amazing dialogue delivery. Storyline is also engaging. Thank you so much director, producers, actors and other team member for making such amazing movie.

It's inspired by real events, is a reflection of our society and pushes the boundaries of reality.

Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamyaham. Paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam, dharma-samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge!

Vedaa was engaging and no doubt we needed somebody to talk loud and clear and make us aware about Dalit rights and their fight for equality. But all the social messages got overshadowed by the action scenes.

Caste system, boo

Has anyone ever told you that the caste system sucks? I mean, of course they have, but Nikkhil Advani's "Vedaa" is going to scream about it again anyways. You would think that a movie about the caste system is practically a layup, but for some reason, it treats the topic with a level of seriousness that's almost comical. "Vedaa" puts all its energy into fighting shadow boogeymen, where by the end of the movie, all you've watched is yet another commercial action flick with a caste discrimination setting, made to satiate either the fans or the ego itself of a particular actor.

All that being said, at least the movie tries to keep you entertained, and entertained not by the quality of the movie you're watching, but rather in a sense of being entertained by random car chases, gunshot action and fight sequences. It's Bollywood being Bollywood at the end of the day, and this is as Bollywood as it gets.

Just Awesome!

This movie is so underrated. Actions plus story line plus showing ground reality of unwanted culture. And the main when the girl Veda comes to seek help from John and he goes and pickup keys which has INDIAN Flag on it gives goosebumps. It is an engaging and heartfelt film that beautifully captures the essence of human relationships and emotions. The narrative is skillfully woven, with well-developed characters and meaningful dialogues that resonate deeply. The chemistry between the lead actors is natural, drawing viewers into their journey. The direction and cinematography complement the storyline, with vivid visuals that enhance the emotional impact. Its blend of reality and subtle humor keeps the audience invested throughout. Veeda is a refreshing and thought-provoking film, offering an unforgettable cinematic experience that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Bakwas movie!

Waste of time this movie. Starting had some promise and then complete fail. Those comparing John Abraham's character to John Wick, obviously have not seen an actual John Wick movie, how dare you insult John Wick. Vedaa wants to be this tough boxer, strong and independent to help protect those she loves. She fails every single one of them, on top of that, her character is weak and pathetic for basically the whole movie, she gets pretty much everyone killed. Don't waste your time watching this please. I actually created a new account in IMBD, just because I was shocked that people were rating this movie anything above a 2 star.
