THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!

I've been watching Asian dramas since 2013. Hidden Love shows just how far dramas have come since then. Gone is the era of corny, unrealistic, over-done dramatics and toxic bullying relationships. Nowadays, the reign of realistic, feel-good dramas with healthy adult relationships and no villains or cliffhangers is in. I haven't been this impressed with dramas since Hometown Cha Cha Cha and Reply 1988, both of which Hidden Love reminded me of in parts.

The male protagonist, Jiaxu, is realistically perfect, a great man, a walking green flag, who is caring and loving to everyone around him and especially fond of Sang Zhi and her family (HCCC vibes). The female protagonist, Sang Zhi, is not a dumb damsel in distress, she makes reasonable decisions for her life and falls in love due to relatable circumstances. Even as an innocent teen, she is relatable (a sweet, honest, reliable, and attentive friend of her brother treating her well as a girl). The actors that play them clearly have real-life chemistry as well... the looks that Jiaxu gives her are a little too loving.

This drama is so good because it's so simple, yet completely free of anything problematic, corny, or unrealistic. It's grounded in reality and what real love looks like! There are no ridiculous villains, no over-done dramatics, no cliff hangers needed to keep you watching. Instead, the focus is on the family and friends surrounding the main characters and the highs and lows of their very real life through different eras of adolescence and adulthood (R1988 vibes).

Here's some progressive themes that I was so happy to see brought attention to in this show: menstrual cycles (normalization), predatory relationships (inappropriate age gaps between adults and minors), consensual acts (asking, can I hold your hand? Do you want to..?), prioritization of family, health relationship dynamics (always putting the other person first, anticipating their needs and wants), supporting the other person's dreams and growth.

Yes, it may be slow, but it's totally worth it. I was actually impressed with how short the "will they, won't they" waiting period of the plot lasted; Jiaxu is such a good guy that we don't wait long until he makes his intentions known to now-adult Sang Zhi. Additionally, despite the kid-friendly rating... the couple got shockingly spicy and handsy for an Asian drama (mostly suggestive moments, but plenty of intimate on-screen kissing and hugging).

Hidden Love is complete and well-thought-out. Nothing was rushed, everything was given its time, and I felt rewarded for watching. The effort put into this was apparent, and it's clear that women directors and writers were behind it all. 10/10, easy. I recommend this to every lover of Asian dramas as a MUST watch.

All the feelings in the world...Zhao Lu Si will make you feel her unbreakable first love, what an outstanding performance!

I would say that my favorite thing about this drama is the outstanding actors. This power couple is just a 10z

I have followed these two young actors for a long time, and although I know they are young they are just extraordinary.

I love them both and Chen Zhe Yuan is just as great ( how great he was in our secret !!!) but I just have to highlight a few things about Zhao Lu Si acting. Because I think since I watched her in The long Ballad I just cant get over how good she is.

There's something in her acting that just transmits anything she wants to you. She has a true gift. You will truly believe she is 17 and she is dying of pain holding back tears, watching her first love with another woman.... Her performance in this is just amazing, every gesture, every word, every gaze, she nails her character, making us cry and making us fall in love at the same time she does.... Just awesome.

They have an amazing chemistry together and its really cool to see that kind of healthy and mature relationship displayed once in a while, although we all know is not really realistic at all in the world we live in and the matter with the age gap is more because the difference when they meet was extremely noticeable, 5 years when you are 14 is not the same as when you are 20. So it gets very tricky for them.

One to watch for sure, but I would have enjoyed it if it was longer! Loved this duo.

The kind of drama I miss, go with the flow, it's not weird at all.

After a long time, I can see a drama that is indeed romantic and sweet. For some viewers, it might be cheesy, weird, but I miss series that are not heavy and sweet. Some say this series is weird because it falls in love with an adult. Hey, you're judging before seeing the whole drama. There are even many explanations in the drama. Why Duan Jiaxu is nice to Sangzhi, you all asked about this, the drama has all the answers. You need to follow the plot or look first before criticizing. I'd like to answer the part that you found weird, but it would be a spoiler. Guys, this drama will answer all the weirdness you thought. Just go with the flow.

Extremely sweet drama that can make you forget your bad days!

The leads have played the roles of the characters to perfection! Anyone saying the female lead actress portraying the child SZ was bad definitely didn't know child SZ grew in an overly protective household where the good and bads of the world was still unknown to her that is why her character may come off as more innocent The portrayal of silent crush by the actress was extreme perfection The male lead went out of his was while portraying DJX I could not find a better DJX than Chen zheyuan I know some of the people will come here without seeing the drama or by hearing someone's unprofessional review cause they didn't watch the complete drama before saying it shows grooming For that let me explain there is not even a 0.1% of grooming here. The male lead always kept respectful boundaries within him n the underage SZ. He saw her as a lil sis only. Whenever he interacted with FL it was always in prescence of her brother n her parents. Once when he thought the female lead had a crush on him because he saw some drawings of him on her notebook he immediately cut off his contact with her There was even a reason why he always treated the female lead and her family respectfully n always willing to help them no matter what.

This drama makes my day better after a 9 to 5 job This drama can make you cry laugh blush all at the same time The portrayal of silent crush and bearing the weight of it and having doubts of never been see as an adult by your crush was done a very good job by Zhao Lusi Chen Zheyuan portrayed an amazing character of DJX who had to leave his youth early to tackle into grown up world because of his father accident and his mother death Not being able to be financially independent in your teenage years having to bear the weight of paying for expensive hospital bills , working multiple jobs at same time just to pay his college fees ,debt and his father's bill and not even getting enough time to grieve for his loss...getting surrounded by debt when you are not even an adult and having a crazy stalker who keeps on making his life more miserable made my heart ache for djx..it was so bad that sometime he felt suicidal even after getting multiple health scares he never felt the need to go and check up in hospital..he just kept on enduring his bitter life till a certain someone showed up once again in his life

I will end my review by saying DJX has always been respectful and careful towards underage SZ so don't twist it into something just because you don't like age gap dramas or heard from someone's review Watch it first before believing into someone's blind review.

International Fan Here: Perfect Drama to Binge Watch!

International fan here:

I don't usually watch Cdrama, but this one piqued my interest. The story is based on a novel titled: "secretly secretly but unable to hide it" by zhu yi. I read some chapters and love that the series made sure it sticks closely to the original source. I love how the story unfolded. It guides the audience on how the relationship started from platonic to puppy love and finally true love. It clearly showed the transition of the guy's feelings from an overly protective older brother to something more. The story tells us about how someone can be one's destiny. Sang Zhi was exactly what Duan Jia Xu needed at the right moments and times. She was the little sister when he needed one. She was like a best friend when he needed someone to share his secret, and the girlfriend who loved him as who he was and will be.

I am a fan of the main and secondary leads acting. Their facial expression is convincing. The dialogues are also very witty and entertaining. I really love this drama and would highly recommend this. It is funny and touching. The sweet parts can also give you diabetes. Hahaha!

Congratulations to the team and crew!

a sweet and dignified love story with lots of sweet feelings

I have been an avid viewer of countless dramas, each with its own unique charm and appeal. However, one particular drama holds a truly special place in my heart. From the first episode, I was captivated by its allure, and my affection for it has only grown with each passing installment. This drama, unlike any other, has the power to transport you to a realm of tranquillity, effortlessly alleviating the burdens of everyday life. It is nothing short of a masterpiece.

The exceptional quality of this drama lies not only in its ability to provide an escape, but also in the exceptional performances delivered by each member of the cast. Every actor involved in this production showcases their skills with utmost precision and sincerity, creating an immersive experience that makes you feel as though you are an integral part of the unfolding narrative. Their collective talent breathes life into the characters, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.

The brilliance of this drama can be found in its simplicity. While some may argue that complexity and intricate plotlines are essential to captivating storytelling, this drama defies that notion. Its storyline, though uncomplicated, exudes an undeniable charm that tugs at the heartstrings. It is a tale that resonates with the viewers on a profound level, reminding us of the power of sincerity, kindness, and love. The drama's ability to weave such a heartwarming narrative with seemingly effortless ease is a testament to the brilliance of its creators.

As I sit back and reflect on the episodes I have watched thus far, I find myself overwhelmed with a sense of serenity. This drama provides a respite from the chaotic nature of our lives, allowing us to temporarily set aside our worries and immerse ourselves in a world that radiates warmth and positivity. It is a rare gem that has the power to transport us to a place where all our troubles fade away, if only for a little while.

It is with great enthusiasm and conviction that I wholeheartedly recommend this delightful drama to everyone. Whether you are seeking solace, a brief respite from the demands of reality, or simply a heartwarming story to brighten your day, this drama has it all. It effortlessly embodies cuteness and charm, captivating the viewer from the very beginning. Its ability to evoke genuine emotions and leave an indelible mark is a testament to its brilliance.

In conclusion, this drama stands out among the vast array of shows I have watched over the years. Its unique ability to create a tranquil and stress-free environment, combined with exceptional performances and a heartwarming storyline, sets it apart from the rest. It is a true masterpiece that will leave you feeling both content and longing for more. So, do yourself a favour and embark on this wonderful journey. You won't be disappointed.

Pluses and minuses

On the whole--not too bad. While the story lacked emotional power, the plot was internally consistent and displayed some character development. In spite of being slow-moving, HIDDEN LOVE held my interest.

BUT- lots of problems...

The FL acted like an overly-protected child for 3/4 of the series - collecting stuffed animals, expressing herself in words of one syllable, using the cadence and syntax of a six-year-old, and getting by on her cuteness. Really, Chinese writers? Is that the model you want girls to emulate?

Zheyuan Chen, the male lead, had a more nuanced role and was, for the most part, the glue that held the series together. Props also go to Victor Ma, as the brother.

This series, like others of the same kind, give girls an entirely unrealistic picture of what real relationships are like-and how they're likely to go. But I appreciated the depiction of a slow-moving relationship, and what a relationship like that "could" be-if only they existed.

My favorite foreign series I ever watched

I've been watching Asian drams since 2017 when Netflix started adding them. I'm a 65 year old white American male , so if I like it, anyone can like this show. I have watched many excellent ones like Pachinko, Meteor Garden, Rational Life, etc. But this one is my favorite.

Such a realistic story, never a fake moment. The chemistry between the leads is unmatched. Zhao Lusi is a very talented actress and I am now watching 3 of her other shows !

I'm only on episode 17 of 25 and look forward to the rest of the series. Easily a 10/10.

Rarely does a show make me laugh and bring tears to my eyes, but this one does.

Not everyone's cup of tea!

Just so you all know, at first I was a bit flabbergasted to see the high rating of "Hidden Love" got on IMDb, and that was basically one of the reasons I was intrigued to watch this drama series in the beginning. I strongly believe many of you out there had the same reason as I had earlier. Knowing Zhao Lusi was also in the series as the female lead gave me more enthusiasm to watch it right away. I have watched most of her drama series and I am happy to tell you all, I was very pleased with all of her work so far.

Without any expectation, I started watching the series up to tenth episode and surprisingly I did not get the hype at all and I wasn't really captivated by it. Just so you're aware, I almost dropped it though, but with high determination and motivation I've got left I finally reached the last episode. Thumbs up for me!

"Hidden Love" was not a masterpiece but it's surely not the worst either. There were some appreciable scenes or moments that I have to highlight and appreciate. Essentially, if you are someone who likes fluff romance kind of thing, "Hidden Love" is a perfect choice for you. But if you are someone who does not enjoy this type kind of romance, I suggest you to watch something else that is your cup of tea. Cheers!!

I am so mad

I am so mad at myself. I never watch hyped up tv shows or movies because they always fall short but then I thought Asian dramas are different. Boy was I wrong, I am a Kdrama fanatic so when I think about Asian dramas I think about them that's why I thought this was going to be different.

I am currently on episode 18 of this drama and I am struggling. My first mistake was watching King the Land before this one, because most people were bashing King the Land and hyping this one. I think maybe if I watched this one first and did not see the 'great reviews' I might have enjoyed it just a little bit more because this drama was sooo slow for one. I typically don't dislike a slow burn but this one was just annoying honestly, because there was there unclear communication which led to hurt feelings(for the Fl mostly), the FL jumping to conclusions and breaking her heart and and... Secondly, I now realise that I much prefer mature romance, where the couple clearly communicates their feeling and all misunderstandings are dealt with swiftly.

I have so much to say but this will be wayyy too long. But I really did not enjoy this one, even when they finally got together it was just- meh. The way I was so excited for this drama, I avoided any reels about this drama as I didn't want any spoilers, which is so unlike me, because everyone was raving about this. It got me so mad that I even want to unfollow my favorite asian drama influencer because she's still raving about this drama and I feel like I can't trust her judgment any more. I swear if I see another person or page raving about this series I'm going to scream because I honestly feel bamboozled right now. Lastly, I feel like Cdramas follow a written format for their romance series because they pan out the same, it's weird. Different story lines same format(atleast for the one I've watched thus far).

I was so disappointed that I had to create an IMDb account to write this review, because I just had to say something. Anyway, I gave this a 4 star because of the few comedic scenes and because of how cute the main leads are and also for the little girl at the beginning. Their acting of these characters however, was over done. The ML acted way too old for his age and the FL way too young for her age, which made it so hard to get past the older brother and younger sister dynamic they had at the beginning. I feel like I've wasted time on this one because I've so many series I want to watch, so disappointed and this is coming from someone who loooves light hearted romantic shows.

The Best Drama in 2023!!!

In my opinion Hidden Love is the best drama in 2023!!! I read the novel and manhua many times and this drama is really faithful to the novel. The chemistry of the leads are so 🔥🔥🔥 along with their acting, you can really show on their facial expressions how they feel without over acting. The drama and the plot might be too simple and some people might find it boring but It was not. The drama show about family, how to love and support each other without heavy misunderstanding. The director choosed the best actress and actor to played hidden love drama and the success kudos to all the hidden love teams.

ADDICTIVE ,UPLIFTING AND TOOOOO CUTE!!

Probably the best performances, best OST and the most sensitive writing I have seen in a long time! This has become my all time favourite romance drama.

The story progresses so naturally and is so believable. There is no unnecessary drama, all characters are good and positive souls. Its so refreshing and uplifting to watch.

The cute bickering between the siblings, the swoon worthy moments between the main leads and the adorable friends around the cast - each scene has a place, each scene makes you smile, each episode makes you root more and more for the main leads. Its a perfect representation of hope and all things good with our world. I loved it and how !!! Re-watched it as soon as it got over; that says a lot about how I feel about it :-)

One of the best Chinese drama this year!

The story line was very simple yet universal it touches across social & cultural boundaries lines. The actors & actresses were both attractive & talented. I liked the fact the respect the program showed towards the parents & Also liked the fact that main characters had to fight hard to preserve their love & to overcome their personal challenges. Their were no magic pills on this one...except a few things that was huh...really...oh...no...but besides that it was cleaned show, the whole family can enjoyed. It is for anyone who had a crush on their best friend sister...im joking..lol Love believe all things, conquer all things...True love never fails.

It's something else cannot be described in words

Loved both of them but Male lead was most favourite and is a great actor, this drama alone can prove it. I feel like he was a completely different person before falling for her and once he starts falling for her. I knew this drama is going to be one of my most favourite after I realised what's coming as her makes the first move and flirts with her. That's it there was a complete switch in his personality and he is called GREEN FLAG for a reason. I wish for love like their.

It's been a while I have loved a teenager love story so much.

My 2nd CDrama and will always be the best for me.

Literally difficult to move on.

Very very sweet drama

I don't why so many haters have tried so hard to down-rate this drama.. this drama is currently a huge hit in china and worldwide now. This is very very sweet drama that always make us laugh, giggles, smiling for each episodes.

There is nothing wrong with FL and ML characters here. In this drama, 5 years age gap are not a big deal at all, they start dating when FL has grown up.. Everything is normal, sweet and good so far.

I love zhao lusi portrayed her character sang zhi so well in the drama, it's completely the same as novel, and high school sang zhi to university sang zhi are all good. I also love chen zhe yuan as ML. They are perfect pairings.

✒⭐Grasp Those Stars & Hold Tight⭐ °7.8° °VG° 💯%🔍

Here's a romance that's a warm and sticky sweet bun with a nice cup of chamomile tea. We're talking very low drama. Romance fans will find it charming and relaxing. I certainly did. Others might be underwhelmed. We meet Sang Zhi (Zhizhi) in middle school and follow her through several years of her life. In ep1 big bro brings his friend, Jiaxu, home. Zhizhi is smitten. Jiaxu is thoughtful and kind towards her. He always has time for her, which only fans the flames as the years roll by.

HL is a 2023 release that is rated a whopping 9 on MDL. It is 1 season consisting of 25 45-minute episodes. Zhao Lu Si (Who Rules the World-7.5, I Hear You-7, The Romance of Tiger and Rose-9.8, Love Like the Galaxy) is FL Sang Zhi. I've liked her in everything I've seen so far, but my respect for her abilities took a leap forward with this show. Feisty and full of life describes most of her characters. Here, she's shy and demure (though she's capable of pulling some bold moves, we'll see). Even her body language says she's not fully grown. While in HS, her gangly walk is the pièce de résistance of her act. She's extremely impressive, particularly when one factors in how different she is from her other performances. I am a fan.

Chen Zhe Yuan (Our Secret, Handsome Siblings-8.7) play ML Duan Jiaxu. He's a sparky, mischievous brat in HS, a show that I love. In HL he's calm and thoughtful. Victor Ma (Detective Chinatown, Moments We Shared) is big brother Sang Yan. He may be the big brother, but he's a bit of a brat, always calling Zhizhi "Little demon". The director is Lee Ching Jung (Go Go Squid!, Everyone Loves Me). The screenwriter is Ou Si Jia of Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities, and the original creator is Zhu Yi of the show, When I Fly Towards You-7.8.

The day Zhizhi meets Jiaxu she has a dilemma. She's in trouble at school and her parents have been called in for a teacher conference. She somehow persuades Jiaxu to pose as her brother for the conference. He attends, explaining that the parents are out of town. Crisis deleveled. That favor creates a bond between them that will never be broken. Zhizhi ends up at college in Jiaxu's hometown, and he is the only person she knows there. Sang Yan asks friend, Jiaxu, to look out for his sister. Jiaxu does. Zhizhi was already looking at Jiaxu... and only him.

I watched HL back-to-back with When I Fly Towards You. They are similar - same author. They're relaxing, they really couldn't be sweeter, and they both lack depth. Other than a stalker connected to Jiaxu over a mistake his father made, the biggest problem the characters face in HL is Zhi's milk allergy. (The show presents the 5 year age difference as a big issue. It certainly is for teens, but once they are both in their 20's it isn't worth mentioning). That's okay; there's a nice big space with comfy couches for such wind-down watches. It does lower the degree of difficulty, though, and thus the maximum score. One the one hand, to do a slice-of-life feature in which not much happens, yet it is still a great watch, takes skill. On the other hand, for a feature to be in the high 8's and above, there should be complexity and these 2 shows have none. They can be every bit as enjoyable as, and the ones we rewatch before more highly rated shows. Entertainment that touches the heart is meritorious regardless of technical lapses. WIFTY gets a higher cuteness rating because the female lead's character is ridiculously and relentlessly cute, while HL is more tranquil. It's almost plodding, but never boring. These shows are for romantiholics only, and look at the ratings - romance junkies are very satisfied. If you want to expose a friend, who is only a casual romance watcher, to a youthful Chinese romance, I suggest A Little Thing Called First Love-8.5 or Wait, My Youth-8.4.

HL may lack deeper shading but it has no flaws. Every element is done well. The music is quite nice, however Shazam only had titles in Mandarin. Some did pop up on Spotify. Modern-day Cdramas have gotten better. Before 2019 most are deeply flawed, though not without their charms. One of the best things about Cdramas is what I call their Prozac effect. They are designed to quiet the mind and calm the spirit. If anxiety is up, a Chinese modern-day romance like HL could very well help level the mood.

At one point Zhizhi pumps her fist in the air and gives Jiaxu the common Kdrama encouragement: "FIGHTING!" The most recent Cdramas have been acknowledging the popularity of Kdramas, and I suspect it's a call out to what has inspired their growth. I love it. I also loved HL. Will you? If you call yourself a romance fan, maybe. Probably. If you consider yourself a romance /junkie/ then there can be no doubt; check it out!

I can't watch this

After watching the first episode, I can't stand it anymore. What happened to the fight between Sang Zhi and Sang Yan is completely different from what I imagined! Sang Yan doesn't look good, acting feels weird, I really can't watch it anymore, and the introduction talks about why the first episode of high school is junior high school, isn't this messy? What did the director think? I really don't want to complain about Sang Yan, but I really can't stand it. I don't look good, and I can't act. Fortunately, I still read the novel. The TV series and the novel obviously don't match! (I commented only after I watch it seriously)

Not For Everyone

It has zero percent reality touch,,,may be has 0.03%. All you can see just Sweety Sweety lovely lovely moment which are not as good as to be emotionally crackable. But I was confused about it's rating,,, it's 8.5+...that's why I started it...but disappointed after watching 19th ep..Many people like it, cause Many people like fictional romance that has zero relativity with this nonfictional world. But first 18 episode was good,,,Worth my time..The actress's role was cute, refreshing as well as male lead,,,, but After 18 episode they actually behave like something unbearable (for me)..both lead were perfect on their acting and others... But I think there are something wrong with Plot..

The Kind of Love We All Wish For

Since the telecast of The First Frost, the buzz around this series has only grown. It seems the delicate portrayal of love, loss, and hope in the midst of life's quiet storms resonates more with viewers than ever. People are rewatching and sharing their favorite moments, celebrating the genuine emotions that burst forth in every episode. This drama isn't just entertainment-it's a reminder that real emotions, though messy and unpredictable, are the very essence of life. And in a world where we often hide our true feelings, this series dares us to be honest, vulnerable, and passionately alive.

Where do I even begin? Hidden Love isn't just another romance drama-it's the kind of story that sneaks up on you, settles into your heart, and refuses to leave. We all want to believe a love like this exists, but deep down, we know it's a beautiful fantasy.

Especially Duan Jiaxu-there's no way a man like him exists in real life, right? And yet, that's exactly why we can't help but fall for him.

Duan Jiaxu is the kind of man who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders but never lets it show. His gentle voice, the way he looks at her, the way he puts her before himself even when it breaks him-it's everything we hope love would be. But beneath that soft exterior is a man who has endured loss, loneliness, and the ache of not having a place to call home. He doesn't ask for much, just a little warmth, and yet life never seems to make it easy for him. If anyone deserves love, it's him.

Then there's Sang Zhi, the girl who grows up loving him from afar. She's young, full of hope, and completely unaware of the pain life has in store for her. But when reality hits, she doesn't break-she learns, she matures, and she understands that love isn't just about admiration from a distance. It's about showing up, being there even when things aren't perfect, even when it hurts.

The supporting characters? They're not just fillers. The friends who protect without asking for anything back, the family members who love in their own flawed ways, the ones who had to let go even when they didn't want to. Every single one of them adds depth to this world, making it feel so real.

And now, with First Frost bringing this story back into conversations, it's about how love, in all its forms, carries us through life. It's about pain, longing, and finding the courage to hold onto someone despite all odds. Maybe we'll never find a Duan Jiaxu in real life, but for a little while, this drama made us believe we could. And maybe that's enough.
