They tried but failed

We are living in a very bad time where most movies being released are crap and they copy off of every action movie from the old days. We haven't gotten a great heist movie since Ambulance (2022), I highly recommend you watch that movie if you are into heist thrillers. Don't watch High Rollers thinking it will be as great as the 2001 classic Ocean's Eleven, you will be disappointed.

These Hollywood actors were once the biggest stars and they put lots of effort into their films, Travolta and Bruce Willis were big names in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. But today in the 2020s after the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the actors we know and love are all tired and they put zero effort into making movies.

Sad time we live in and I don't feel it will get better, this is why I'm so nostalgic. I miss the days when we constantly got a great movie and people went to DVD rental stores to pick up blockbusters. My overall rating of High Rollers is 3 stars, they tried but failed.

High Rollers

High Rollers is a sequel to Cash Out. Director Randall Emmett probably shot both movies back to back even though there is one significant cast change.

Master thief Mason Goddard (John Travolta) finds out his girlfriend Amelia (Gina Gershon) has been kidnapped by criminal warlord Salazar (Danny Pardo.)

In order to get her back, Mason and his crew has pull a heist on a casino. Although There is no guarantee that Salazar would keep his side of the deal.

As well as planning a daring robbery, Mason needs to deal with the FBI who are tracking him as well.

High Rollers is a straight to streaming view. Low budget but it looks glossy. It has a patchy story, horribly cliched. Travolta gives a committed performance, like an actor who is doing this hoping a better movie is offered to him next.

Acting? What acting?

This is a highschool production, right? RIGHT!? I've seen toddlers in Christmas plays act better and I've seen homeless hobos write better and I've seen dogs direct better. Don't waste your finite, limited and priceless time watching this 'movie'.

Seriously Hollywood must stop funding these F movies for Failed Hollywood stars attempting "comebacks' that will never ever under any circumstances happen because oh I don't know there's a reason they failed. In this case lack of talent, too much interest in a CIA funded 'religion' (scientology) and a complete lack of common sense (of whoever thought funding this 'movie' as a producer was a sensible use of however much this thing cost.)

One of Travolta's Worst

I feel like Travolta's peak was Pulp Fiction, after that he just keeps pumping out forgettable movies every year. This is probably the worst, this Part1 to this movie Cash Out was nothing special and this PArt 2 or sequel is laughable, acting was so unwatchable, everything felt like they were just following a script, nothing flowed or made the movie interesting. Travolta could be a good actor that his peers would respect if the right script was given to him, these heist, action type movies that he keeps getting involved as a 75 year old are not for him. At least he stopped wearing wigs and toupees in these movies but he needs to change the types of movies he accepts.

A return to form for John Travolta

A return to his late 80s/early 90s pre-Pulp Fiction form, that is! This movie is the definition of "Straight to video" B movies that used to exist before the age of internet. Predictable, yet nonsensical script, phone-it-in acting, and entirely undeserving of your attention unless you are actively seeking out this sort of trash. It trudges through cliché after cliché, offering nothing fresh or entertaining. Even John Travolta's once-commanding presence can't salvage this disjointed mess from the bargain bin of cinematic misfires. It's little more than a forgettable footnote in Travolta's filmography, so feel free to skip.

Do not watch this movie - waste of my time

If you want a reason to gouge your eyes out, watch this movie. Horrible plot and corny acting. A horrible soap opera. Literally would rather sit on a plane with a screaming baby puking next to me. I am questioning how someone could make this horrible of a movie. Staring at a wall is more entertaining. I would rather drink toilet water than watch this movie. Waste of time and money. I think a kindergarten musical would be a better use of time. I strongly advise that you avoid watching this movie again all costs. An experience I wish I could forget. How could this movie be so horrible within the decent cast? I don't know.

Just WoW

After narrowly escaping a whirlwind of a heist, mastermind Mason (John Travolta) has retired from the criminal world with his gang of thieves and the love of his life, Decker (Gina Gershon). Their happy days are short lived when Decker is kidnapped by the notorious Salazar, bent on extracting revenge on Mason. Mason has no choice but to execute a risky heist inside a luxurious South American casino, putting him and his crew on a collision course with rivaling criminal syndicates and the FBI

This is a case of it is soo awful I was actually entertained by the stupidy. If ya wanna watch something so bad, break out some popcorn and have some laughs.

Oh c'mon

So bad it's the perfect cult potential flick! From the cold punishments delivered by bad guys with cravats (lol "waste of a good cigar") to the slow mo suit snap getting out of a super car... Holy monkeys Batman if this isn't the perfect movie for a bunch of dumb guys like me to laugh at I don't know what is. How much fun would it be to watch this flick with a couple of your high school buddies and John Travolta himself?

Holy monkeys Batman if this isn't the perfect movie for a bunch of dumb guys to laugh at I don't know what is.

High Rollers - A Film Best Left Forgotten

High Rollers falls apart on nearly every level. The plot is incoherent, riddled with logic gaps, and full of characters who behave in ways that make no sense. Dialogue is stiff and unnatural, leaving emotional moments feeling forced or laughable.

Visually, the film is uninspired. The camera work is flat, the pacing drags, and the editing feels clumsy - scenes either overstay their welcome or end abruptly. Add to that a mismatched, overbearing soundtrack and awkward sound design, and the result is a movie that never finds its rhythm.

But perhaps the biggest letdown? John Travolta. I had hoped to remember him for his legendary role in Pulp Fiction, not for this hollow performance in High Rollers. Watching him stumble through this mess is disheartening - like seeing a former champion trip over his shoelaces in the first round.

Honestly, after sitting through this film, I'm pretty sure I'll be having nightmares - not from the plot, but from how excruciatingly bad it all was.

Final verdict: High Rollers is a painful watch. Unless you're a glutton for cinematic punishment, avoid it. Your time - and your memory of John Travolta - deserves better.

A Technical Misfire That Fails to Engage

High Rollers is a film that suffers from numerous technical flaws. First, the screenplay structure is weak and disjointed. As the story progresses, logical errors and inconsistencies become increasingly apparent. The film's framework fails to generate the necessary momentum to captivate the audience. The plot's irregularities and implausible developments distract from the experience, making any attempts at drama feel redundant. In particular, the characters' decision-making processes lack clarity, and their dialogue often feels unnatural.

Visually, the film doesn't offer anything particularly original. The cinematography is unremarkable, relying on standard, unadventurous techniques. Camera angles are static and conventional, with no visual flair or artistic emphasis in action or suspense sequences. There are times when the camera lingers unnecessarily, which contributes to a lack of energy in the scenes. Furthermore, the close-ups of characters' emotional moments fail to convey any depth, which prevents the audience from forming an emotional connection.

The sound design and music are also significant drawbacks. The music chosen for dramatic or tense moments does not align with the atmosphere of the scenes; instead, it feels as though it is directing the audience rather than enhancing the experience. The musical choices are clichéd and at times rather artificial. The sound effects also feel overly pronounced and unnatural, detracting from the sense of immersion in the world of the film. This further weakens the connection to the characters and their surroundings.

The editing, too, leaves much to be desired. The pacing is uneven, with some scenes unnecessarily drawn out, which results in a rather tedious viewing experience. In contrast, other scenes transition abruptly, breaking the flow and continuity of the narrative. A more fluid and coherent editing approach would have helped maintain the film's overall integrity.

Lastly, the performances only serve to highlight the film's technical shortcomings. The acting is flat and unconvincing. The characters' emotions and conflicts are poorly conveyed, and this lack of authenticity makes it difficult to care about the events unfolding on screen. Combined with the film's other technical failings, it becomes clear that High Rollers struggles to engage the viewer on an emotional level.

In conclusion, High Rollers holds some potential but ultimately falters due to weaknesses in direction, screenplay, cinematography, and sound design. These issues prevent the film from leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Travolta's Best!

This is by far the best thing Travolta has come out with since he did "The Boy In A Plastic Bubble." This star has proved he has a great future ahead, and his co-stars in the movie only elevate the story to another level!. The effects, the storyline, the actors were all spot on - can't wait for the next instalment in this series of Cash Out and High Rollers - I'm sure it will surpass even these two! Sorry to see the end credits note on producer Sean Stone, he will truly be missed and had definitely shone brightly in the world of Hollywood movies. This could be similar to the "Oceans" series, maybe Travolta could even bring favorites like Pitt and Clooney onboard to spice up the genre? Who knows? Kudos to all who came together to make this a great movie - keep them coming!

Terrible Oceans knock off

The plot is completely incongruent and at times it feels like entire scenes have been omitted. Not only is the script terrible, but the acting is difficult to watch, and the entire production feels completely budget. I could not get myself to finish the movie and I'd suggest re-watching the Oceans series instead of wasting your time on this.

Worst movie I've seen in some time

The acting is terrible.

The writing is terrible.

The production is terrible.

I got halfway through this and it was painful. I had no idea Travolta had fallen so far. The opening scene set the pace and it sucked the whole time. The world class casino is some tiny building. Everything about this screams low budget. I do believe high schoolers could produce something better.

all talent gone

I would like my review to be an interactive one with the audience. If someone can answer my question, please raise your hand. When did John Travolta lose his talent to act? I always thought he could improve, but I did enjoy his movies such as From Paris with Love, Be Cool, Swordfish, etc... As I am watching this waste of a time film, I am thinking what happened to all that talent. I feel sad that all the work that he starts in lately is unwatchable. Please let me know your thoughts AM I wrong?

Want some cheese on that?

Great! Because this is a pizza, and not a movie. It's not even a good movie. They spent a lot of money on cinematography. Used a manual on the elements to make a good Heist movie. But, they forgot to actually write a decent and captivating script. If you are have an insomnia issue, put this "movie" on and enjoy your well deserved rest! Just remember to set the TV's timer to auto-turn off.

Room for improvement

So many questions about the choices made. Unfortunately, there are quite a few areas that could be improved starting with the storyline, followed by the acting (and the music choices). Travolta can be "cool" but in this case the movie fell short. Plot twist has been done before and was nothing noteworthy.
