Initially when I stumbled upon this movie, I was about to skip on it, given it's title. But I stopped and read the synopsis, and must say that I was somewhat intrigued, and opted to check out the movie.
Writer Leigh Scott took on a very liberal approach on the classic H. C. Andersen tale, but I will say that throwing in the Lovecraftian element was definitely quite a risk and gamble to take. I enjoyed the fact that writer Leigh Scott opted to twist the tale with some cosmic horror. The narrative was watchable, though it was hardly an outstanding viewing experience, and there are far better Lovecraftian movies out there.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, but I found the acting performances to be good. They had a good cast ensemble, and I actually enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen whenever I watch a movie.
The special effects in the movie were fair. Nothing grand or extraordinary, but actually fair what what they were.
While the movie was watchable, it is hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.
My rating of writer and director Leigh Scott's 2024 movie "The Little Mermaid" lands on a five out of ten stars.

I could not buy into the so-called archaeologist when he came across like a mash-up of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and Don Johnson's Sonny Crockett of Miami Vice. It was exceptionally ridiculous on the first lunch date with the Mermaid and he shows up looking like a college jock and not a studious professor. And his voice was like fingernails across a chalk board, so I muted most of his conversation..
I liked the ending and it included getting rid of the worst actor in the bunch, so I returned two of the three stars I deducted for the cornball hamfisted cheesfest eric prince portrayal I had to contend with.
I easy one time watch once you get past the cheese. 4 out of 10.
