Teacher Paloma Flores, who campaigns for indigenous rights and against a mining company in the central highlands of Mexico, disappears after a rally, along with her companions. Years later, her son Emiliano believes he has found a clue. He gets a job as a caretaker with the Aldama family because he suspects that the bodies of the missing persons are on their exclusive lakeside property. Mónica Aldama is a social media star, and her mother Carmen was once a famous singer. Carmen's current husband Rigoberto, an artist and self-proclaimed "provocateur," has gotten into trouble with a Christian sect that is now persecuting him. Emiliano, who was warmly welcomed by the extroverted and attention-seeking family, soon no longer knows whether the Aldamas are behind his mother's disappearance or whether he should protect the family, which is threatened from both inside and outside.
