A reviewer called this a Jesus Hallmark movie. If you are not religious or spiritual, skip this one.
Abigail (Ansley Gordon) is a young woman who returns to her home town after a miscarriage which sadly led to a divorce. She does mystery podcasts, and when a neighbor dies suddenly, she suspects foul play.
The neighbor who passed away seems to be leaving Abby clues in the form of Bible passages. Abigail's grandfather is a minister, and her policeman childhood friend (Bret Green) attends church regularly. Abby has become detached from her faith due to her unhappiness. The case reintroduces her.
I was not familiar with this series - it's from the Great American Family network, a Hallmark rival with a more religious bent, it seems.
I don't mind spirituality of hearing the Bible, and in today's world and at my age the passages are comforting. However, this isn't much of a mystery, and the acting is just okay.
There is a place for every form of entertainment- this is geared to a niche audience. Not for everyone.

I watched the entire movie because I liked the dynamics between the lead character and her friend who was a cop. A rerun of Murder She Wrote probably could offer more suspense. Which isn't saying much.
The acting overall wasn't compelling. I never felt her struggle with God was fairly acted out. For example, she seemed to always try to pray with a glass of red wine nearby. Not sure that is the right inspiration.
Her efforts to find the killer were pretty laughable and the red herrings were easy to spot. Overall this is no competition to the Hallmark mystery movies but I found it watchable nonetheless.

I love this. Is it perfect? No, but it is nice and it's just like the Love Inspired Suspense books I read. You get the best of both worlds. A movie that shows the Lord and a cozy murder mystery. I just love those books and always wished that there was a TV series or movie like them. I was so excited when I happened upon this. If you don't love the Lord it still has a good mystery to follow and if you do love the Lord all the better.
I am so thankful for writers who aren't ashamed of the Lord and actors willing to speak of the Lord.
Mysteries happen to Christians too and it's foolish to think that you can't solve a crime and be a Christian. Many police officers are Christians too in real life, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that there can be Christian true crime Podcasters.

Alright, this is a murder mystery. There should be more of an atmosphere of danger, suspense and a little bit more moodiness to properly set the tone. After all, somebody just got killed and the actors don't seem to be taking the situation very seriously. They're so light hearted and cheerful they don't come across as real; and the music sounds like something out of a half hour family situation comedy. They act as if they are trying to decide whether to go out for dinner at Red Lobster or Applebee's. A little bit more gravitas for the situation would be good. It was like "Gee whiz guys, somebody just got killed. Sure is a nice day outside!" Now, having said that, I began watching this movie because I wanted some wholesome entertainment.and because I like mystery movies and I just watched a horribly dull, gritty "film noir" mystery from the 1950's, and that was way too bleak, dark and depressing for me. One definition of a noir film is "A movie that is marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, menace, and cynical characters". So I wanted something a little lighter to watch, but the characters in this movie were just a tad too sugary sweet. If they had cast a Shirley Temple type to play Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird it couldn't have been more inappropriate. So, good try, but lay off the overly niceness next time.

I was looking forward to seeing what kind of mystery GAC might offer because I do enjoy a nice cozy mystery, but I couldn't even follow the mystery plot in this movie. The plot was constantly interrupted by random discussions of religion between the main character Abby and well every other character. I guess this was an attempt to differentiate from Hallmark channel and appeal to the GAC base but goodness please first nail down the plot and develop the characters. Signed, Sealed, Delivered was a very successful mystery movie series with religious overtones that didn't have me cringing or reaching for the remote.

I thought this movie was very well done when I did the research and discovered that the main actress, Ansley Gordon, wrote the movie as well as being an Executive Producer. The woman who played Cami on the show was the Director, Brittany Goodwin. Then the male who was the detective, Bret Green, was an Executive Producer. I think this shows a tremendous accomplishment for these relatively young people with the potential for a successful future in this genre. I did see that Ansley Gordon has already accomplished a lot of writing as well as many other projects. I do hope they all plan to give us many years of family friendly movies, particularly mysteries.
I found refreshing the movie was built around God, family and friends. Because of that, we learn a lot about encouragement, loss, forgiveness, perseverance and peace. There are several Bible scriptures quoted throughout. So obviously this isn't for everyone, but for those of us of the Christian faith, it is appreciated. I hope there is another episode to see how it goes.

I am giving it two stars. One is for the scriptures because the Bible is awesome. Another star for keeping it clean. That being said, it was so awful. There were plot holes and bad acting. The main character did some really dumb things. There was a pretty cool moment where the cop got some very interesting information, but we had to back it up, pause it and get really close to read it. It could have been a real wow moment. This movie had potential. It just never got close to reaching it. Watch it if you want, but keep your expectations very low. It doesn't hit you on an emotional or intellectual level.

Great mystery for the whole family. My kids were catching the clues and it was fun trying to figure it out the motive and killer. We all had our suspicions and I love that we paused the movie a few times to rewind and review the clues. This included family discussions along with excitement in figuring out who the killer was. Nice story about relationships too, the past, love, greed and God. I appreciate not having to worry about anything inappropriate since I had my kids watching. It definitely gets you thinking. We want to see more family friendly movies like this. We saw it on Pureflix. Loved it!

Actually the story was pretty good , the acting was OK and I did enjoy the twists and turns right up until Abigail starting praying for help to solve the case or get on with her life - hard to tell - it was a unnecessary distraction in an other wise decent mystery movie . - while on the subject I just recently started watching GAF and the similarities between it an Hallmark could fill a book , except for GAF obvious effort to cater to evangelicals - the GAF effort to indoctrinate religion into many of their shows is annoying - and Abigail Mysteries is a classic example - I would have given this story an 8 if they had just stopped asking God for help.
Trite. Way Too much praying. Way too much Poppa. Too much sniffling. Best part was when she was whacked for snooping around. Guy hanging around outside again and again. Too obvious man was not related. Too obvious who evil person was too. Too many potted plants in the mix. No one actually looked in the coop. Mean old boss. Plot too slow. No follow up on obvious mystery elements. Convoluted. No intermittent resolutions of the clues. Belongs as part of Sunday morning Church Service. Praying they find new writers, directors and supporting cast. Everyone way to bland. Could have been good. But, too far off on every component.

This was so cheesy and contrived. Some of the acting was good and some of the actors were laughable. The religion aspect was so forced and most of it seemed like an afterthought. Like they needed to fill a quota of the number of times they did something religious.
Abbey and the pastor were good.but most of the other casting was off.
It could have been cute but they need to make it less cheesy.
I was excited to stumble across a new series, but this totally missed the mark. They are trying to use the same formula as Hallmark but it is a poor imitation.
If this is the quality of content at GAF I will be sticking with Hallmark.

As far as I know, this is the first mystery for the new Great American Family Channel. There are some things I liked about it. And there were some things that kind of bothered me. Overall it was good. Pros are the story and the sense of community in the movie. My major con would be that it seemed like some clues were given and then dropped. The Main character put herself in kind of dangerous situations but seemed to keep that information to herself. The only other major con I have would be that during quiet conversations, the music is SUPER distracting and then dialogue is very hard to hear. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie though.
Of course I was not familiar with the 2023 crime mystery "The Abigail Mysteries", as the crime mystery genre with female investigators never really was something that I was particularly interested in. But I opted to give the movie a fair chance, since I had the opportunity to watch it.
While the movie was watchable, it was not really a movie that tickled me in the right places. Now, I am not saying that it was a bad movie, it just didn't really cater to what I consider to be proper entertainment. But I am sure that if you enjoy female investigator crime mysteries, then you would find a lot more enjoyment in the movie than I did.
Writer Ansley Gordon put together a fair enough script, albeit a rather generic and predictable one. However, I wasn't aware that there would be such an overshadowing Christian theme interwoven into the narrative, and had I known that I would not have glanced in the movie's direction a second time. Yeah, the movie was a bit preachy at times, which definitely didn't appeal to me, nor did the whole Christianity aspect of the storyline for that matter.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and despite the fact that the narrative was a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me properly, then I will say that the acting performances were fair.
"The Abigail Mysteries" is a light-hearted crime mystery. There is no action, no thrills, no excitement, nor anything that would otherwise get your pulse up and heart pumping. So yeah, director Brittany Goodwin delivered a dud of a movie.
This is definitely not a movie that I will return to watch a second time, nor is it something that I would seek out future movies to watch, if they opt to make sequels.
My rating of "The Abigail Mysteries" lands on a most generous three out of ten stars.

This movie combined elements of mystery, faith, and romance all of which we love to watch. Our only real complaint is the poor sound quality of the production. We found it very difficult to follow the dialogue sometimes because the actor's dialogue was not recorded evenly. We could understand one actor in a scene, but the others were not so clear. If it were not for the closed captioning, we would have given up watching the film altogether.
The tale of rediscovering lost faith is always enjoyable. In this case, the teaming up of two childhood friends, with one helping the other rediscover the faith that had been left behind, was especially enjoyable. I hope that there will be more of these movies.

A bunch of over-the-top religious fanatics all in one spot. One fanatic is no longer with us; was it the proverbial heart attack or a nefarious dispatch. Psalm 88:18 New International Version 18 You have taken from me friend and neighbor- darkness is my closest friend.
The only person qualified to suspect foul play is Abby Broukes (Ansley Gordon) a mystery maker on Podcasts. She is determined with the help of an old friend policeman and possibly an angel, follows the bible scripture clues to find out.
We get every cliché in the good book. And toss in a failed pregnancy, a botched marriage and other items that have nothing to do with the mystery or its solution.
If you can make it through this film without barfing the surprise may be that since this is just one mystery this was probably a pilot for a series.

This program is a good storyline with biblical quotes. It could be more suspenseful. I do like mysteries and appreciate Great American Family producing this one. I hope they will make another Abigail Mystery or others like it.
Few of these actors need more experience and their next program should be better. I'd like to see more of Jill Wagner.
I dearly hope more programs are made with scriptures and examples of how we all are to keep God first! Thank you for this program and more like it.
Please show "The Forge" made by Kendrick Brothers. We need more of these programs reaching to our youth!

I enjoyed the couple and thought Abby had a good story arch without it being too complicated. Her soul searching being intertwined with the case, because the dead neighbor was religious, made it feel more natural. The sister, dad, and others add to it too, like Abby's podcasting boss, who feels believably corporate without it being too over the top. To me, characters come first, but the mystery had more to it than I expected as well. Also, the use of Bible verses relating to objects as clues was fun.
I hope they make a sequel because this was cute and refreshing. I like seeing church and faith in a movie without it having to be the whole movie, like it's a regular part of life. Maybe a sequel could show a little more of Matt's perspective. I'd want this to at least be a trilogy.
