There are some casts that you would want to watch even if they were being themselves, and sitting around a dinner table talking about whatever. That's the case with the Ocean's 11 crew with George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and all the others. They are entertaining in themselves.
The same can be said of the cast of Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club. A bunch of actors you know from a bunch of things perform their roles as an older group of Brits who go about solving murders for fun. It's a bit like Only Murders in the Building, but...wait. No, it's a lot like that Hulu series.
This is especially true as the plot of Ttmc turns when the three Brits and one Irish lad, played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan (he's Irish), Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, find that a murder has occurred extremely close to them.

A major star from The Book of Boba Fett – and the wider Mandalorian era – has confirmed whether they’ll make their big-screen Star Wars debut in next year’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. Seven years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiered, Lucasfilm is hedging its bets and using its most successful live-action TV streaming series to push the franchise back into cinemas. The result is The Mandalorianand Grogu, which will reunite viewers with Din Djarin and Grogu after the events of The Mandalorian season 3.
Of course, Din’s and Grogu’s story is inextricably intertwined with another Mandalorian-era show, The Book of Boba Fett, which saw Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand take over Jabba the Hutt’s palace and criminal empire on Tatooine. Speaking with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley at the Karate Kid: Legends NYC premiere, Ming-Na Wen confirmed whether bounty hunter...

JJ Abrams is directing his first film in seven years, and cameras are rolling on Ghost Writer in England. More here.
The messy production and even messier reception to 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker sent a lot of careers on unexpected trajectories, but perhaps the most notable impact was felt by JJ Abrams. While he was far from the only creative at fault for delivering a largely unloved end to one of the most popular cinematic sagas of all time, the film bears his name and as it stands, some six years later is still the last film on his directing resume.
Thankfully, that’s all about to change given that Abrams’ secretive new project has now begun filming in London. According to World Of Reel, the Warner Bros-backed project is going under the title of Ghost Writer and will be eyeing a 2026 release date.

Since the release of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars fans have speculated about the deeper meaning behind Rey inheriting Leia Organa's lightsaber. Now, a recent comic officially canonizes a widely popular theory, shedding new light on Rey's pivotal role in the Skywalker saga and her deep connection to Leia.
In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #4, written by Jody Houser with art by Will Sliney, Luke Skywalker, in his Force ghost form, recounts Leia's final day of Jedi training to Rey, and Leia's decision to set aside her lightsaber.
Luke explains that Leia sensed that her son would die at the end of her Jedi path, and laid her lightsaber aside with the certain knowledge that it would be picked up again by someone who would finish her journey. This confirms the long-held fan belief that Rey's inheritance of Leia’s lightsaber was not mere coincidence, but a preordained action.

Since its inception, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been divided into different sagas to distinguish between its overarching themes. The Infinity Saga started the moment Tony Stark suited up as the invincible Iron Man and ended when he used all of the Infinity Stones to turn Thanos and his forces to dust. Since then, audiences have watched as parallel realities collide, and heroes travel to alternate worlds in what's known as The Multiverse Saga. While these two chapters have each had their strengths and weaknesses, there's no denying that the latter has suffered more changes on the go.

There might be hope for a third Star Wars: Battlefrontvideo game after all. Mats Helge Holm, one of the developers who worked on both modern entries of the franchise, stated in a Reddit comment that many members of the team behind the games want to work on a third installment. The comments arrive after Star Wars: Battlefront II gained plenty of popularity once again, almost a decade after the title was launched to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Players have been waiting for a new chapter for a long time. While Battlefront II is available for playing on new consoles, developer support and content updates were halted sooner than expected due to widespread controversy caused by the game's launch. Still, the game still has a dedicated following of fans, and the prospect of a new console generation makes another installment more desirable for them. Here's what...

Arguably the most acclaimed Star Wars project since Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, Andor recently concluded a spectacular second season. The new season dominated the Disney+ viewership charts for the majority of its month-long run, but has now surrendered its number one position to an evergreen favorite, Grey's Anatomy. On May 22, Grey's Anatomy earned 359 points on FlixPatrol, emerging as the top show on Disney+.

Rian Johnson, the writer and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, recently opened up about a possible return to the franchise. While Johnson admits he has other projects currently lined up, he's open to revisiting the world of Star Wars.
In an interview with The Independent, Johnson spoke about his prospective trilogy of Star Wars films -- which were announced weeks before The Last Jedi was released but never really took off and entered development. "What happened? Knives Out!" Johnson said, speaking of his wildly popular mystery film starring Daniel Craig. "I mean, I kind of went down the murder mystery rabbit hole – I'm focused on making other stuff," he said, referring to why he's not prioritizing Star Wars.
Despite having other projects demanding his attention in the present, Johnson admits he's willing to return to Star Wars in the future. "[T]hat wouldn’t rule out it happening down the line.

Fans hoping for a chilling, monstrous take on Mary Shelley's classic will need to adjust their expectations.
Legendary director Guillermo del Toro, known for fantastical horrors like Pan's Labyrinth and the gothic romance Crimson Peak, has confirmed his upcoming Netflix adaptation of Frankenstein is decidedly not a horror movie.
Speaking at a special panel at the Cannes Film Festival alongside composer Alexandre Desplat, del Toro revealed his surprising perspective. "Somebody asked me the other day, does it have really scary scenes?" he recounted. "For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son… I’m not doing a horror movie — ever. I’m not trying to do that."

Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises but has often been a hit or a miss with its entries post the original trilogy. While the prequel trilogy has largely been divisive, only a few of its post-Disney offerings such as The Mandalorian, Rogue One, and Andor have received unanimous praise. The prequels still remain one of the most polarizing works in Hollywood.
Creator George Lucas took complete creative control over the franchise with the prequel trilogy, all three of which he wrote and directed. The filmmaker reportedly had the idea long back, even during the filming of the original trilogy. He reportedly offered the role of a Jedi space witch to popular B-movie actress Sybil Danning.

Andorshowrunner Tony Gilroy has shared his perspective on the decision to take this Star Warsshow from five seasons (in the original plan) down to just two. Andor season 2's ending meant the conclusion of the show, and it is already being hailed as one of Star Wars' best TV shows, if not the single best. That raises interesting questions about whether five seasons would have made the show better or worse—but Tony Gilroy has a clear and assertive answer.
Per Backstory Magazine, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy explained that, although the show shifted from a five-season plan to just two seasons, he doesn't feel as though the story was compromised in any way or is missing anything. Gilroy said:
"I don't feel that way, man, no. I think, alright, maybe it would've been a lot of jazz hands and a lot of drinking coffee. I don't know what the hell it would've been.

When you think of action franchises that actually get better over time, Mission: Impossible is right at the top. What kicked off back in 1996 as a sleek little spy caper has turned into an adrenaline-fueled, globe-trotting rollercoaster. And somehow, each movie keeps raising the bar like it’s trying to outdo itself with more stunts, more chaos, more Tom Cruise defying death just because he can.
Now, with Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning officially out in the world (and clocking in at a wild 3+ hours), Cruise is going all in for what’s shaping up to be Ethan Hunt’s biggest and possibly last ride. It’s long, it’s intense, and it’s got everyone talking.
But with the franchise riding this wave of blockbuster adrenaline, here’s a fun question: What’s the worst Mission: Impossible movie? And strangely enough, it shares a very specific and undeniable trait with...

This article contains spoilers for "Andor."
There was a time when the notion of a direct prequel to "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" was met with skepticism at best, ridicule at worst. Then "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" went on to become one of the best "Star Wars" movies ever, and everyone shut up. The same thing happened when a prequel to "Rogue One" was announced, and it was met with skepticism and laughter. Then we got "Andor," and it turned out to be one of the best TV shows of the 2020s, as well as one of the boldest and biggest experiments in "Star Wars" history.
Season 2 of "Andor" is not just a masterpiece of television, but it's also a miracle. Indeed, it's kind of amazing that, in the year 2025, we've gotten a story set in a galaxy far, far away that would dare to explicitly call out genocide,...

If there's anything linking "Star Wars" and the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, it might be the malleable filmmaking process for any given movie or show. The superhero franchise has become renowned for entering into production without a finished script on a routine basis, as anyone who watched "Captain America: Brave New World" can attest. Meanwhile, that galaxy far, far away has encountered similar challenges in recent years; there's a reason why there hasn't been a single "Star Wars" movie in theaters since the debacle of "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker," after all.

There are a lot of controversial choices made throughout the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, but one that fans bicker about to this day is the Reylo romance. In "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker," Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) finally share a kiss, seemingly clarifying that the growing connection between them throughout "Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi" was indeed a romantic one. Anti-Reylo fans were pissed, but luckily(?) Kylo died not long after, so the whole debate was mostly rendered moot. Still, some fans think it was in poor taste to depict a romance between our hero and Kylo Ren, who is basically Space Hitler as far as this universe is concerned.

In an interview with Vanity Fair's Anthony Breznican, the Andor showrunner broke down Season 2's final batch of episodes and the long journey of writing and bringing his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff to life across several years. Staying with the Star Wars IP after Rogue One, he added, was largely thanks to Kennedy, who "seduced me" into pushing forward with the show even when he doubted its success.
"There was a period of time where I really wanted the show to die and I wanted to get out of it. When Covid came, I thought, Oh, thank God. Covid will kill the show, and I won't have to do it. So there was a long period of time where I was like, I can't believe she got me into this,...

"Andor" might be officially over, but the reactions, revelations, and discussions surrounding the most acclaimed live-action "Star Wars" series ever certainly aren't going anywhere anytime soon. After spending years getting to know Diego Luna's Cassian Andor with far more subtlety and nuance than "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" ever had time for, we now know exactly what made him into the hardened Rebel operative we saw in the 2016 movie. Yet, even this sprawling, 12-episode final season had quite a few surprises up its sleeve -- not all of which ultimately made the final cut.
Creator and writer Tony Gilroy has been making the press rounds lately (including a recent conversation with /Film's very own Ben Pearson), and in one particular interview, he opened up about his original plans for a major original trilogy cameo that was simply not to be. The timeline of "Andor" allowed quite a few...

Jordan’s Royal Film Commission has boosted its cash rebate for international film and TV production to 45%, as part of a bolstered offering of film and TV production incentives, unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday
The new package of incentives, which was approved by the Jordanian cabinet on Sunday, aims to support the local film industry at the same time as bolstering Jordan’s position as a destination for international film and TV productions.
With its world heritage sites such as Petra and stunning desert landscapes, which include Wadi Rum, Jordan has worked hard to establish itself as shooting destination over the past two decades with productions touching down in the territory including Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and Dune 2, JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker, and Guy Richie’s Aladdin.

Ever rewatched a movie and spotted a familiar face for a second that you completely forgot or completely ignored because you hadn’t even noticed them earlier? Well, just as a long cameo contributes to the story of the movie, sometimes these unnoticeable cameos can also contribute by becoming a topic of discussion later, making us rewatch the movies to spot the celebs.
Cameos are often like hidden Easter eggs, and sometimes they can uplift the mood of viewers if they are carefully dropped at some dull moments of the movies. Sometimes, even Hollywood’s A-listers pop up in roles so subtly or in a disguise that fans completely forget they were there, especially when so much is happening on the screen. Let’s take a look at some of these cameos that people almost forgot over the years.

Shooter star Ryan Phillippe talks losing out on a major Star Warsrole to Hayden Christensen.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Phillippe recently opened up about losing out on the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones due to being considered too old for the role at the age of 29. "Being a kid born in the '70s, I was like, 'What a dream that would've been.' But I think things happen for a reason, and it's easy to make peace with that."

Finn actor John Boyega recently revealed that he is very hopeful about Rey's upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order. New Jedi Order is one of several upcoming Star Wars movies, although doubts about the progress and the certainty of the project remain, especially after the Star Wars Celebration 2025 reveals shared little in the way of updates about the movie. At present, it does seem as though the movie is still in development, but announcements like Star Wars: Starfightermay mean it's been pushed to the background for now.
Nevertheless, many remain excited about New Jedi Order, including, evidently, Finn actor John Boyega. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Boyega shared:
"I miss Daisy, I haven't seen Daisy face-to-face in a minute... I found out [about Daisy's return] online. Being a genuine fan, I'm online, I watch reaction videos, I'm on the subscriber lists.

Nearly six years following the release of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," Lucasfilm has mostly avoided exploring the polarizing Sequel Trilogy era. Every possible discussion — both healthy and unhealthy — regarding the pros and cons of J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson's contributions to the Skywalker Saga remains some of the more exhausting discourses within geek culture, and to re-litigate these debates would be beating a dead tauntaun. However, the aspect of the Sequel Trilogy that fans can agree upon is that Finn (John Boyega) was wasted.
Following his phenomenal introduction in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as the male lead hero, Finn's storyline was subject to a bad game of telephone between Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams, both of whom had differing visions for where the character's development should go. John Boyega has been vocal about his frustration regarding Finn's diminishing character trajectory, and what is particularly ironic...

After Netflix released a batch of preview images from the Charlize Theron action sequel The Old Guard 2 a couple of weeks ago, the streamer now unveils the new trailer and one-sheet for the upcoming film. The Old Guard 2 is due to hit streaming on July 2. The trailer looks pretty nifty, with Theron’s now mortal Andy taking on The Bride herself, Uma Thurman, in a cool-looking sword fight!
Based on a graphic novel series created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, The Old Guard was scripted by Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film introduced viewers to a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die who have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. When the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile, the newest soldier to join their ranks,...

Sam Mendes’ ambitious quartet of The Beatles biopics has just added a major creative force behind the scenes. While CinemaCon made headlines last month by confirming the all-star cast — Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison — the question remained: who’s writing them?
It's now been confirmed that Jack Thorne, the Emmy-winning writer behind Netflix’s hit limited series Adolescence, has joined the writing team for the Beatles saga, alongside Jez Butterworth and Peter Straughan (Conclave).
And yes, this project is set to be a true experiment. All four films — each telling the Beatles’ story from a different member’s perspective — will roll out weekly in April 2028, making use of all four Fridays that month. Padmé Amidalaactress Natalie Portman has the perfect pitch for her Star Warsreturn, and I genuinely hope it happens. Padmé is absolutely one of Star Wars' best characters, and throughout her appearances in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, she proved how fierce, intelligent, and strong she really was. Sadly, that came to an end in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith with Padmé's death, but that hasn't stopped audiences from wanting Portman's return—and she may have the perfect way to do it.
During an interview with the UK's The One Show, Natalie Portman explained that, if Padmé were to return, she'd want her to come back "With a lightsaber. I think she'd have to be a Jedi. Somehow, she was brought back from the dead; that would be exciting." While that seems unlikely to really happen, it's such a fun idea, and it's thrilling to know...

Star Wars has confirmed eight new movies for the star-faring franchise coming in 2026 and beyond. The Disney-owned sci-fi series has been without any meaningful theatrical output since 2019 (outside of special anniversary re-releases), with the last new film coming from the brand being the Skywalker Saga-closing Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.
As part of the franchise's presence at the bi-annual Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that eight new movies are on the official Lucasfilm slate for the next couple of years, and two already have release dates to mark down on the calendar:
Star Wars has notably been missing from theaters since 2019. Thankfully for fans, though, the wait for new Star Wars movies will finally end next year, kicking off a new era of Star Wars storytelling on the big screen.

Star Wars is continuing the story of Finn and Jannah in the first new novel set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It's been six years since The Rise of Skywalker, and the galaxy's future - and the fate of its heroes - remains a mystery. We know Daisy Ridley is returning as Rey in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's New Jedi Order movie, but what about characters such as John Boyega's Finn and Naomi Ackie's Jannah?
According to Penguin / Random House, this story will finally be told in an upcoming novel by New York Times best-selling author Kwame Mbalia - Star Wars: The Last Order. Releasing on October 21, the synopsis promises an exciting adventure set after the fall of the First Order:
Following the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order.

Shawn Levy recently revealed how his experience as a director and executive producer on Stranger Things helped him with his newest directorial project, Star Wars: Starfighter. The sci-fi adventure movie was officially announced at the recent Star Wars Celebration in Japan.
In an interview with Variety, Levy shared that working on Stranger Things for a long time taught him how to keep quiet about major secrets, which has been a beneficial skill for him during the development of his Star Wars movie. "Stranger Things taught me to keep my mouth shut," he said. "So I'm really grateful for that because I kept the Ryan Gosling news and the title and release date of my Star Wars movie pretty damn quiet for a long time. So I'm quite proud of myself and grateful to Stranger Things for making me shut my mouth."

Ian McDiarmid is a cherished figure in the Star Wars universe, but even he wasn’t immune to the criticism surrounding the return of Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Long presumed dead after being cast into a reactor shaft by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, Palpatine’s sudden reappearance—along with the explanation that he had been orchestrating events from the shadows—sparked widespread debate among fans.
While speaking with Variety, McDiarmid addressed the backlash. “Well, there’s always something, isn’t there? I don’t read that stuff and I’m not online. So it’ll only reach me if someone mentions it. I thought there might be a bit of a fuss about bringing him back,” he said. “But as I said, mine and Palpatine’s logic was entirely reasonable. Sunday Am Update: Mostly everything is up Sunday morning with the overall marketplace now coming in at around $146 million. Not only is that the best result for the final weekend of April since the end of Covid, but it’s also the fourth best overall after Avengers weekends 2019 ($402M) and 2018 ($313.9M) and 2011, when Universal’s Fast Five drove the Friday-Sunday period to $158M.
The industry is jumping up and down. We caught up with AMC CEO Adam Aron last night at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award for Francis Ford Coppola and he’s over the moon about how turnstiles are clicking, seeing April upticks in overall revenues and concessions. There’s a sense out there that the box office is finally on a roll.
The trick is, major studios, not having us lapse back into famine. When Marvel Studios/Disney’s Thunderbolts* hit Nrg tracking three weeks ago, it was forecasted at $70M.

Ian McDiarmid has defended his controversial return as Emperor Palpatine (a.k.a. Darth Sidious) in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. McDiarmid reprised his role even after Palpatine was seemingly killed in 1983's Return of the Jedi.
Director J. J. Abrams made the controversial decision in the ninth Star Wars film to resurrect Palpatine for a showdown with his granddaughter Rey (Daisy Ridley). Fans were critical of Abrams' creative decision, especially as the opening crawl of The Rise of Skywalker matter of factly announced that the galaxy had simply heard "a threat of revenge in the sinister voice of the late Emperor Palpatine."

Speaking to Variety, McDiarmid admitted that he'd never expected to return to Star Wars after the Emperor's apparent death in Return of the Jedi.

When it comes to Star Wars, everyone has an opinion.
Before Disney purchased the rights to the franchise, it really felt like fans might never see live-action offerings again. But the House of Mouse swooped in, for better or worse, and now we’re all swimming in an ocean of new content from a galaxy far, far away.
Whether it’s the Disney+ shows that are your bread and butter, or you’re one of the fans who think Disney has murdered the very fabric of Star Wars with every new addition, we all love to fit our opinions in a concise ranking. This is how the Disney-era of Star Wars shakes out for me.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars turned the film world on its head, becoming a cultural behemoth like no other. What began as a farm boy’s space odyssey has spawned trilogies, spin-offs, and enough lightsabers to fill a Sarlacc pit.
But with so many movies in the mix, the biggest debate among fans isn’t about the Force or whether Ewoks are adorable or frightening—it’s which Star Wars film reigns supreme. And now, we’re diving into the ultimate battle of rankings. The sequels? Still polarizing. The prequels? Surprisingly aged like fine blue milk. And the stand-alone adventures? Well, there’s at least one gem that stands out.
But here’s the twist: not every Star Wars movie here is canon. Why? Because some of the non-canonical projects outshine their official counterparts. So, sit back and prepare for a journey through...
