The zombie movie is as popular as ever right now, thanks to Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Years Later, albeit with the franchise not technically featuring any zombies. With this in mind, many are finishing their watch of the first of an upcoming trilogy, and looking into the streaming archives for some more undead, brain-eating fun. In doing so, it seems some are stumbling across a forgotten zombie comedy from ten years ago, that stars both The Office's Rainn Wilson and The Lord of the Rings icon, Elijah Wood.

Following his reprisal of Eric Foreman in the long-awaited sequel seriesThat '90s Show, the brilliant Topher Grace set his sights on a new project, made in the shadow of the Western genre's recent renaissance. That series was The Waterfront, created by Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson, which, like many others, has ridden the coattails of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and found fair success on streaming.
Starring the likes of Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, and more alongside Grace, that series debuted and shot straight to the top of Netflix’s global viewership rankings, helping plenty of the main ensemble, including Grace, receive even further-reaching notoriety. In doing so, some have dived deeper into Grace's filmography to find similar performances in dramas with just as many thrills and spills, including the forgotten 2011 thriller The Double, which also starred the likes of Richard Gere, Stephen Moyer, and Martin Sheen.

We’re big fans of director John Carpenter’s 1986 action extravaganza Big Trouble in Little China here on JoBlo. We’ve sung its praises with a Revisited video, named it the greatest cult film of all time, and dug into the film’s three best scenes… so we’re very sad to hear that actor Peter Kwong, who played the super-powered martial artist Rain in the Carpenter film, has passed away at the age of 73. According to Variety‘s report, Kwong died in his sleep Tuesday night.
Kwong is best remembered for playing Rain, but that was just one of almost 90 screen acting credits he racked up over the course of a career that stretched back nearly fifty years. Hailing from Sacramento, California, Kwong got his acting career started with an appearance on a 1976 episode of the TV series Visions. To many, he will always be Frodo Baggins, the brave little furry-footed hobbit who volunteers to bear the burden of carrying the dreaded One Ring as he leaves his bucolic existence behind while sacrificing himself to save Middle-earth in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
But Elijah Wood has had quite a varied career beyond the Shire ever since he made his film debut at 8-years-old with a small part as Video Game Boy #2 in 1989’s “Back to the Future Part II.” He would go on to land the coveted central role in the epic fantasy franchise based on J.R.R. There's no other pop culture phenomenon as universally well-known yet hated as zombies. The flesh-eating undead hordes as audiences know them today have been around ever since George A. Romero codified them with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, but they experienced a massive resurgence in the 2010s. At the time, almost every facet of pop culture embraced the living dead, from books like World War Z to video games like Left 4 Dead. The most notable and important example was The Walking Dead's first critically-acclaimed season, which was arguably this revival's epicenter and peak. For the better part of a decade, zombies were inescapable.
But as the years dragged on, zombies lost their luster. The living dead became so overused and ubiquitous that everyone got sick of them. Now, zombies are seen as a punchline and a red flag for a lack of creativity and originality. But then in...

School is starting to get back in session for many, hammering in one of the final nails of summer’s coffin. It’s fitting that the new school year heralds in the arrival of Fall; few things are scarier than the hells of school. And high school is a hell of its own.

With the recent news that Tubi surpassed Max, Disney+ and Paramount+, it got me thinking about how far the service has come. It was mostly just seen as a joke but now it’s beating some of the heavy hitters. I’m not exactly shocked as even my grandparents have proclaimed their love for Tubi. The ease of access is always going to be the biggest winner for the average viewer. Plus the fact that it’s Free doesn’t hurt either. At a time where other streaming services are adding ads of their own and increasing their paid tiers to absurd prices, services like Tubi become more and more appealing.
Tubi has come a long way since its days of direct-to-streaming shlock. Sure, there are classics like Child’s Play, Interview with the Vampire, Pumpkinhead, The Descent and Near Dark. But what about some titles that are more off the beaten path?...

Leigh Whannell has given horror lovers classic franchises like Saw and Insidious, alongside other notable genre entries like the most recent adaptation of The Invisible Man. But hidden within his dark and scary resume is a hilarious zombie flick starring Elijah Wood and Alison Pill. Cooties, which quietly premiered in 2014, takes the classic zombie trope and gives it a hilarious twist, providing unexpected moments and ridiculous action sequences. It’s so vastly different from everything else on his resume, and that’s what makes it extra special. That, and of course, Rainn Wilson.

A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

ScHoolboy Q has announced his next studio album, Blue Lips.
The Tde rapper confirmed the news with a trailer shared to his website, which also currently boasts a clock counting down to the record’s “intended release date” of March 1st. The 37-second clip takes place in what appears to be a film studio, with what we’ve been led to believe is the album’s tracklist (a whole 17 songs!) projected on the wall.
At the end of the trailer is a dictionary definition for “blue lips,” which reads: “Speechless, especially as the temporary result of shock or some strong emotions.” Ironically, the trailer doesn’t feature any vocals, but there is a mellow, jazzy instrumental that could sound nice with some Q bars.

Elijah Wood may be having a bit of a moment with "Yellowjackets," but it's far from his only headline-grabbing role. Wood has been steadily working on our screens since the late 1980s, with a varied career that includes acting in TV and movies, doing voice work, producing and writing, and more.
While Wood definitely has become a permanent fixture in pop culture thanks to his role in "The Lord of the Rings," his career is much more eclectic and varied than just the blockbusters. He's the kind of actor who seems to delight in taking unusual and creative projects, with roles ranging from outright comedy and family-friendly hits to thrillers, dark dramas, and everything in between. Let's take a look back at some of his big-screen highlights over the years.

February ushers in a new slate of movies and TV shows making their way to HBO and HBO Max, from a slew of James Bond movies to the recently released Olivia Colman-led “Empire of Light” to, yes, the Puppy Bowl.
“The Terminator,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Footloose,” “Taxi Driver” and “The Silence of the Lambs” all mark notable library offerings this month, in addition to “Superbad,” “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” and “Eighth Grade.”
Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.

The selection of titles for HBO Max in February 2023 will include the continuation of hit TV shows, premieres of holiday specials, and Oscar nominees. HBO Max’s January 2023 additions kicked off the new year with the premieres of TV shows like The Last of Us, which broke HBO records for having the highest jump in viewership for its second episode, and the original series Velma. The month also brought The Menu (2022) and the John Wick franchise to the platform’s library, with plenty more classic films and new releases set to drop on HBO Max in February.
In February 2023, HBO Max will host the streaming premieres of two 2023 Oscar nominees: Sam Mendes’ drama Empire of Light (February 7), which earned Roger Deakins a Best Cinematography nod, and HBO documentary All That Breathes (February 7), which is up for Best Documentary Feature. A new hilarious video imagines a non-gamer watching The Last of Us with someone who played the original video game. HBO's popular horror drama is based on 2013's Naughty Dog video game of the same name. Bella Ramsey stars as Ellie, a precocious 14-year-old orphan who is somehow immune to a fungal plague that has wreaked havoc across the world. When the Fireflies are attacked, the militant revolutionary faction hires weathered black market smugglers Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Tess (Anna Torv) to escort Ellie out of the heavily-fortified Boston Quarantine Zone. It has become the most-talked-about show in the last two weeks, with immense praise for its storytelling and performance.
YouTuber KyFromDaWoods recently shared a funny video that mocks gamers watching HBO's The Last of Us with people who have never played the game before. Check out the video below:

At the time the first entry in director Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Fellowship of the Ring," hit theaters in December 2001, a then-20-year-old Elijah Wood had already been acting in movies for more than a decade. How would the actor elect to follow up his role in the fantasy blockbuster films as the wide-eyed ring-bearer Frodo Baggins? By playing a sleazy nerd in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," portraying a silent, cannibalistic serial killer in "Sin City," and voicing a tap-dancing penguin in "Happy Feet" (among other things).
Wood's eclectic post-"Lord of the Rings" filmography was a conscious choice on his part. In an interview with Esquire to mark the 20-year anniversary of "Fellowship" in 2021, Wood recalled just how much Jackson's fantasy-adventure trilogy came to consume his life during the years they spent making it. "My life was so defined by being in New Zealand,...

Exclusive: AMC Networks’ Rlje Films has taken North American rights to the Elijah Wood and Luke Kirby dramatic thriller No Man of God, based on real transcripts and conversations between serial killer Ted Bundy and FBI agent Bill Hagmaier. The deal for the Amber Sealey-directed feature went down ahead of the pic’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere in June. The pic is now scheduled to hit theaters in August.
In 1980, Bundy (Kirby) was sentenced to death by electrocution. In the years that followed, he agreed to disclose the details of his crimes, but only to one man, that being Hagmaier (Wood). Aleksa Palladino and Robert Patrick also star in the Kit Lesser-scripted feature.
No Man of God was produced by Wood, Daniel Noah, Lisa Whalen and Kim Sherman. Ward and Jess De Leo of Rlje Films negotiated the deal with Whalen and Stacy Jorgensen on behalf of Company X/SpectreVision and the filmmakers.

Movies are slowly starting to trickle back into theaters, emphasis on the word “slowly.” For the time being, audiences’ options are still better at home, as this week’s crop of new films includes outrageous new genre fare — such as “Becky,” from the directors of “Cooties,” which plays a bit like a hard-r version of “Home Alone” — and festival standouts such as Hong Sang-soo’s “Yourself and Yours.”
“The Invisible Man” star Elisabeth Moss elaborates on her ever-widening scope of tortured women in the wildly unconventional Shirley Jackson biopic, a movie which portrays the author of “The Lottery” as the kind of character one might discover in her mind-bending horror tales.

In 2014, directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion presented their debut feature, Cooties, a humorous take on the zombie subgenre with infected kids and their teachers as the victims. Later on, in 2017, the directing duo made Bushwick, a peculiar Children of Men-like action thriller with several long takes, in which Dave Bautista and Brittany Snow’s characters try to survive an unsettling armed attack to the titular Brooklyn neighborhood. Now Milott and Murnion are back with another genre effort, this time approaching the home invasion and the revenge subgenres. In Becky, the titular young girl (played by Lulu Wilson) is mourning the death of her mother and even though her father (Joel McHale) is planning to get married...

What if Kevin James was cast as a neo-Nazi? That’s one of the many uninspired questions that Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion’s gruesome “Becky” answers in a movie driven by an increasingly boring set of narrative dares. Others include: What if the protagonist was a teenage girl so angry she could actually kill? What if there was a MacGuffin that was literally a key that didn’t open anything? Even as the movie The pair’s earlier film, “Cooties,” suffered from similar issues, attempting to build a thin idea (what if a zombie pandemic only turned little kids into monsters?) but at least it yielded more entertaining results.
“Becky” is as grim and gruesome as any horror movie in recent memory, but that alone can’t save this gross-out thriller. Still, the story opens with promise, through candy-colored title cards and fast cuts between Becky (the wonderful Lulu Wilson...

After making a career in sitcoms and comedies, Kevin James is traveling down a darker path. Although he may be best known as Doug Heffernan in The King of Queens or a diehard mall cop in the Paul Blart movies, Kevin James plays an altogether vicious villain in the home invasion thriller Becky. Directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (the filmmakers behind Cooties and Bushwick), Becky is coming to VOD and Digital on June 5th, and the film's trailer offers a look at James' intense character that's a far cry from his comedic roles.

Whoever had "Kevin James stars as the bad guy in a violent R-rated horror movie" on their bingo card got lucky. The first trailer for Becky has arrived and, yes, the star of King of Queens and Paul Blart: Mall Cop is in it playing a twisted neo-Nazi, certainly representing something totally new for the actor and comedian. The question is, can he pull it off? That remains to be seen, but he's certainly convincing in the trailer. James aside, this looks to be a tense, violent and mysterious home invasion thriller.
The trailer kicks off by showing us a father and his rebellious, angry young teenage daughter, while also showcasing Kevin James, who is wandering about a prison yard. Then, James' character shows up at their lake house, clearly having escaped from prison, to let them know his dangerous dog is on the loose. Things get tense in...
