The Last Ship

Ändern
The US Navy allowed the production team to film scenes aboard the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS Halsey and USS Dewey as well as the USS Iowa museum ship. The destroyers were sailed several days out to sea so that the cameras could shoot 360 degrees without having to worry about coastlines, buildings, and other ships appearing in the background. Many of the sailors in the background were the crews of those ships going about their duties as cameras rolled.
The USS Halsey acts as the stand-in for the USS Nathan James for the most part. The ship's dog, on the show, is called Admiral Halsey.

Both are named after Fleet Admiral William Halsey, who is one of only four officers to have attained the five-star flag officer rank of Fleet Admiral. Halsey had a long and distinguished career in the Navy, during World War I he was a Lt. Commander and commanded the destroyer USS Shaw (DD-68), receiving the Navy Cross for his role in rescuing the crew of a freighter torpedoed by German U-boats. He is best known for his service in the Pacific Campaign during World War II, Halsey was a Vice Admiral when the US entered the war and Halsey was given command of Carrier Group 2, whose flagship was the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) and led CG-2 in a number of victories against the Japanese. In 1942 Halsey was promoted to full Admiral and made the commander of the South Pacific Area, Halsey led Allied forces in several major battles including the Battle for Guadalcanal (1942-1943) and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, which is considered to be the largest naval battle in history.
In June 2016, before a screening of the season three premiere in Washington, DC, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus presented the producers, cast and crew with the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award. The honor reflected the show's accomplishment of, in Secretary Mabus's words, "getting the Navy right." While it's a fictional portrayal of a Navy ship and crew, Mabus praised the show's ability to capture the culture of the Navy and the dedication of its people to their core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
Filming of season 4 was paused due to Eric Dane suffering from depression.
The gold anchor on the bow of the USS Nathan James is a Retention Excellence Award for crew re-enlistment.
