Deli Boys: A Spicy Heist of Comedy and Chaos

What happens when "Fargo" crashes into "Dumb and Dumber"-but with a generous serving of spicy masala? You get "Deli Boys", a fresh and frenetic crime-comedy that's as unpredictable as it is entertaining.

At the heart of the series are two brothers: one flamboyant and reckless, the other naïve yet ambitious. Their father, a successful businessman who deliberately kept them out of his empire, suddenly dies-leaving them to inherit not just his legacy but also the shady dealings hiding beneath it. As they fumble through legal and financial chaos, a whirlwind of colorful characters enters (including FBI) the picture, none more magnetic than Aunt Lucky (Poona Jagannathan), who effortlessly steals every scene.

Clocking in at around crisp 23 minutes per episode (sans credit roll), Deli Boys delivers tight, well-paced storytelling, a rarity in today's era of overlong streaming series. The humor is sharp, unforced, and refreshingly authentic-never pausing to over-explain inside jokes, especially those rooted in South Asian (particularly Punjabi) culture.

Goofy yet organic, Deli Boys blends smart writing with strong technical execution. It may not reach cult-classic status, but it's a solid, standout comedy that will resonate with South Asian audiences for years to come.

If 'Man Like Mobeen' & 'The Boys' Had a Baby

I am SO happy to have found this show! It is VERY bingable and immensley entertaining. Deli Boys is a true masterclass in dark comedy without going too dark or too light. I'm just sick to death of these bland, TV-14 sitcoms that take no risks and use the same tired plot hooks over and over.

Deli Boys does an outstanding job of navigating the dark comedy genre without over-relying on excessive gore or violence. Yet at the same time, there is plenty of action, blood, drugs, etc mixed in with a few sweet moments and some satire. Again, if you like the sort of comedy in shows like The Boys, Avenue 5, Future Man, etc then you will be very happy :)

It boasts an all-star, diverse cast who are presented in such a way that it felt very intentional and purposeful. Which is why each character feels 'real' and is believable. Deli Boys seamlessly brings you into the cultural dynamics of the family in addition to the unique issues faced when two different gangs of two very different ethnic backgrounds clash.

This is in stark contrast to how so many of those TV-14 sitcoms I mentioned cast POC these days; as though they realized last minute they needed more diversity and so hastily recast or even created a new role. Of course, this results in characters who are so one dimensional they just as easily could've been Chinese, Ethiopian or English!

A story tangy like the achar

Two Dar boys set out on the road to carry on the empire built by their father, this series while a bit childish at moments will never let have a dull moment and always keep you hooked, however incomplete and paced character development as well as a sometimes holed script leaves this box of achar with lots of masalas dripping into the wounds of people looking for logic, but if you don't want a logic and just want to enjoy a great relatable dark comedy (especially for all the ABCDs out there) then brace up for 10 episodes of quirky jokes, relatable characters as well as some sibling bonding moments.

lazy writing ?

What's with the lazy writing and obvious inaccuracies...hard for us to take seriously and actually watch when straight off the. At we are making fun of it for all the wrong reasons.

Described as "pakistani boys" but it's called Deli boys ?(india).

Guy wears muslim chain but his name is raj (Hindu name).

Just some of the many things that came up in first 20 minutes, You would at least think the actors are conscious enough of these points even if the writers were not.

Someone tell me it's all part of a great joke and i'll reconsider and continue watching, but it didn't feel like it was at all.

Deli Boys - Brilliant

If you were to cross Schitt's Creek with Pakistani humor and cultural nuances, you'd get Deli Boys-and it DELI-vers! (See what I did there?)

The show is a fresh and hilarious take on the immigrant family hustle, blending sharp wit, fast-paced comedy, and an undeniable sense of warmth. At its core, Deli Boys is not just a comedy about two brothers taking over their late father's business-it's a celebration of family, identity, and the immigrant experience.

The main cast-Asif Ali as Mir Dar, Saagar Shaikh as Raj Dar, and Poorna Jagannathan as Lucky-feels like a real family. The chemistry between them is effortless, bringing an authenticity to their interactions that makes the show all the more engaging. Mir and Raj's sibling dynamic is chaotic in the best way possible-constantly bickering but always backing each other up when it counts. Mir, the ambitious yet slightly naïve brother, and Raj, the more reluctant, level-headed one, balance each other perfectly. Then there's Lucky, their fiery and unfiltered auntie figure, who steals every scene she's in. Poorna Jagannathan's comedic timing is impeccable, and her ability to switch between sarcasm and genuine care for the boys makes her one of the most memorable characters in the series.

What really sets Deli Boys apart is how seamlessly it integrates Pakistani humor into its storytelling. The jokes land because they feel authentic, not forced. The writers don't just sprinkle in cultural references for the sake of representation-they make them an organic part of the characters' lives and conversations. From the way Mir and Raj react to traditional expectations to the way Lucky delivers backhanded compliments with the precision of a desi auntie, the humor feels lived-in and real.

One of the funniest recurring bits is how the brothers navigate their father's legacy while being utterly unprepared for the world he built. Their interactions with the Pakistani mafia-like figures in the business world are both hilarious and nerve-wracking. The show plays with the idea of Pakistani hustle culture-whether it's through negotiating deals, haggling in ways only desi families know how, or finding loopholes in seemingly impossible situations. These moments resonate deeply, especially for anyone who has grown up in an immigrant household where resourcefulness is second nature.

Another highlight is the use of Urdu and English interchangeably. There's something incredibly satisfying about seeing characters switch between languages mid-sentence, the way so many South Asian families do in real life. It adds another layer of authenticity and makes certain jokes land even harder. The show doesn't stop to explain these moments to a non-South Asian audience-it just lets them exist naturally, which makes them all funnier.

In a television landscape that often struggles with authentic South Asian representation, Deli Boys stands out. It doesn't try too hard to explain itself-it just is, and that's what makes it so brilliant. The cast's chemistry, the razor-sharp writing, and the effortlessly woven cultural humor make it a must-watch.

Do not miss this show. It is worth every episode.

IMMEDIATE RENEWAL

Praying for a renewal!!! I need season 2!

Deli Boys is seriously one of the best shows ever! I can't believe how funny and relatable it is. The characters are super cool, and you just wanna hang out with them. Every episode has me laughing and feeling all the feels at the same time.

The writing is hilarious, and the actors totally nail their roles. It's just a great mix of comedy and some real-life stuff that hits home. I really want them to bring it back for more seasons because there's so much more they could do with the story and the characters.

So yeah, let's get a renewal for Deli Boys! I need more of that wild ride in my life!

A Brilliantly Absurd Knock out with Heart!

I'm Indian American and watched this series in 1 sitting... 10 episodes, with my white girlfriend. We both LOVED IT.

The performances were fantastic - Poorna J (Lucky Auntie) steals every scene!

It's SO wonderful to see South Asian characters in an unapologetically funny and twisted light! None of it is serious - it's incredibly creative and imaginative. The comedy was fresh, culturally specific and utterly relatable. It fearlessly brings characters we've never seen (Pakistanis and Indian Americans) in gangster / drug genre movies. It's so well executed, and had so much heart! There were moments that were generally moving!

I hope it gets renewed for 10 seasons!

There were some moments that were so captivating, so laugh out loud funny - I found myself replaying them several times before continuing.

Do yourself a favor... watch it now!

Getting to perfection

I watched it completely in one sitting and it's hard for today's web shows to get that type of interest for so long. I am an Indian and surely all the references were truly awesome specially "5 taara" song at the last moment for her gold digger fiànce. Moreover, we need more content like this to showcase that brown cultures are not so orthodox as the world thinks. I love the character of "Lucky " so much that's it perfectly portraits what family is about and what it really should do. In my personal view every one should give this show a chance. It's different in a good way. It is packed up all the mystery, the comedy, the sense of family and drama that no other show (in this genre) will give . It's doesn't contain that cliqué that every brown show or movie carry and the best part about. I am waiting for the second season to show up real fast 🤞🏻

Dumb and Dumber comedy

I'm an older man. I couldn't last past the first two episodes. Maybe younger viewers found this series hilarious. I did not. Good premise, poor comedy writing from my perspective. It's over the top silly, not funny. Scene after scene of contrivances. The dialogue is not at all clever. Auntie Lucky doesn't think twice about killing people and I only wonder how those boys could have escaped her annoyance with them and live. Asif Ali, Sagar Shaikh, Poona Jagannathan give their all with what they're given as brothers Amir and Raj, and Auntie Lucky. Veteran actor Brian George is wasted as boring character Ahmad. Alexandra Ruddy is miscast as FBI Agent Mercer.

It's the Deluxe BLT of Hulu Shows

Hulu's new 2025 original series, Deli Boys, created by Abdullah Saeed, delivers a fresh, energetic take on a premise that feels both unique and unexpectedly hilarious. With its mix of family dynamics, crime, and dark humor, the show grabs your attention from the very first episode and keeps you invested throughout the 10 episode run.

At the heart of Deli Boys are two Pakistani-American brothers, Mir and Raj Dar, played by Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh, respectively. The pair inherit their father's convenience store empire after his sudden death, only to discover that the business they thought was built on hard work is actually a sprawling criminal enterprise. The juxtaposition of their comfortable, privileged lives against the shocking reality of their father's hidden life creates both comedic and dramatic tension. Mir is the responsible brother trying to live up to his late father's expectations, while Raj is the carefree sibling, perfectly content to enjoy the spoils of their family's success. The brothers' chemistry feels real, and their differing approaches to the chaos they've inherited serve as the emotional core of the series.

Where Deli Boys truly stands out is in its unique execution. The show blends humor with criminal intrigue in ways that feel seamless, striking a balance between laugh-out-loud moments and darker, more suspenseful beats. The series is refreshingly unpredictable, delivering more than just your typical comedy or crime drama. It feels fresh, tapping into unexplored narratives within the South Asian community while embracing the genre conventions of both crime thrillers and family comedies.

The ensemble cast is a standout, with Poorna Jagannathan as Lucky, their father's formidable criminal confidante, bringing a much-needed depth to the series. Her performance highlights the power dynamics that Mir and Raj are suddenly thrust into. Additionally, the inclusion of Tan France, in his acting debut as a London-based gang leader, adds an intriguing layer of tension. France's performance as Zubair is chilling and effective, even though he's known more for his charm on Queer Eye-his willingness to dive into the role of a menacing figure is commendable.

The series is visually engaging, with vibrant settings and quick-witted dialogue that keep the pacing sharp and exciting. The humor can be absurd and sometimes dark, but it never feels forced. There's a natural flow between the comedy and crime, which is part of what makes Deli Boys so compelling. And while there are moments that lean into the absurdity of the premise, the heart of the show remains grounded in the brothers' journey-navigating the high-stakes world they didn't ask for, but now must manage.

The show is not without its imperfections, but its unique storytelling, strong performances, and the undeniable chemistry between the lead actors more than make up for it. Deli Boys succeeds in offering a new perspective, combining an unconventional premise with strong character development and a healthy dose of humor. It's a series that doesn't just rely on its concept but instead builds an emotional, chaotic, and entertaining narrative that feels completely original.

In a crowded landscape of comedy and crime shows, Deli Boys is one of those rare finds that feels refreshing, innovative, and delightfully funny. With its smart writing, standout performances, and a story that uniquely blends humor and crime, it's definitely one to watch.

Deli Boys is available now on Hulu, better go check it out!

Fantastic!

I finally found a good comedy to watch even if it's a dark one! I'm a fan of dark comedies anyway. You can get away with much more in these type series. Absolutely love the clash of cultures and the ways of life. There's a stereotype but their characters themselves make fun of it. Really good story fits modern day perfectly. Plenty of laugh out loud scenes and screwed up families. You find yourself really rooting for some of the characters to succeed. The series succeeds where many others fail. The only thing I wish is that the episodes were an extra 5 minutes longer. There is plenty of story to tell in the series. Looking forward to the next season.

Binge Watched the Season in one sitting

Absolutely loved it! It's beautiful, it's interesting, it's fresh, and it's not too serious. I absolutely loved it! I love the diversity of the characters, and it's super unexpected.

The transformation and the journey of the brothers is like "How I met your mother" meets "The Godfather" (which is fitting considering the actress that played Agent Mercer, the wife of the creator of the show also producer "The Offer").

I love the pieces of culture shown, with it being too "heavy" or "serious". Enough to appreciate it, not enough to be boring.

Just watched the whole season in one sitting and I cannot wait for season 2!

Do your research

I genuinely was so excited to watch this show and loved the story line. However, I felt they made a mockery out of Islam and used it as a filler.

If you're going to include religion in your show, at least do it justice. Not to get political, but especially with what's going on in the world today it's so disheartening.

Mentioning Allah's name and then shooting someone is not okay. Not to mention, stereotypical. It's so sad that some of the actors are actually Muslim and are doing things like this.

Two 'Muslim' brothers drinking and one having an orgy den is obviously idiotic. Plus they couldn't even depict proper etiquette of a Mosque...men and women don't mix, they pray separately. Like this is basic stuff. It's not that hard, it's filmed in Toronto where the Muslim population is huge!

Hilarious

Deli Boys has to be one of the funniest series I've seen in a long time!

The writing on the show is flawless, weaving in humour and action while making it unpredictable.

More shows need to be like this.

The acting is great too. The main actors know just how to portray their emotions and comedic elements without looking stupid and slapstick.

I'm definitely going to have to check out the other shows made by this team.

What else can I say? I guess not much, but apparently my review is too short. Let's give this a try.... Hmmm... apparently I still need more words. OK, I think I'm there...

Highly recommended!

One of the best new comedies in years

Went into this show knowing nothing other than it was a comedy that takes place in a deli. Only watched it because they filmed across the street from me for a day though I didn't see any where in the show the footage (did I forget a boat or harbor scene?).

This is truly a dark comedy. The characters are my favorite part of this show and they are quirky or a bad ass female like a 10yr old show Breakin In (Fox show cancelled after one season). To compare to a more popular show, the characters and comedy style are like Parks and Rec if they went darker on some characters.

The inclusion of stories on Italian, Indians, Peruvian and Pakistanis really made for some great material. Add in some dumb stoners, spiritual / yoga types and mafia elements and it was just a surprising show that is well written with great funny characters

Really hoping this gets a second season since it has potential for an even better second season.

Pleasant surprise

Looking for something to watch on a boring night of TV? Five hundred channels and nothing on? Give this show a shot. We needed something new to kill time on TV, and remembered the ads for this show. I have to say it did start a little slowly, and there are a few references early on that some people may not "get." But about halfway through the first episode, a lot of that had been put aside and the fun started. A lot of good back-and-forth dialogue that keeps you listening and interested. The storyline takes a few unexpected twists and turns as well. We're 4 episodes in, and we're looking forward to the rest of the season.

Couldn't finish the first episode

Boring AF. Not a single laugh generated. Who is the target audience??

I started tuning out in the golf course scene and couldn't understand why I had heard hype around this series. I feel like people are hyping shows that largely fall flat with the vast majority of viewers.

I wanted to like this as we desperately need a new comedy series to watch, but this was as boring as store bought tikka masala.

If you've ever wondered what it would feel like to watch your brain slowly dissolve into a puddle of disappointment, go ahead and press play on Deli Boys. The writing is so lazy, I wouldn't be surprised if it was generated by a refrigerator magnet poetry set. Every joke lands with the grace of a wet sandwich hitting the floor-flat, soggy, and somehow still offensive.

This show had the nerve to be hyped as fresh and edgy, but what we got was a painfully bland montage of stereotypes dressed up as "comedy." The characters are so one-dimensional, I thought my screen had broken. Watching this made me nostalgic for root canals.

It's not just unfunny-it's aggressively boring. Half an episode in and I started rooting for a power outage. Save yourself the time and dignity. Go stare at a loaf of bread for 30 minutes instead. It's more entertaining and has better character development.

A Fun Over The Top Sitcom

I can't name many sitcoms that have made me laugh over the last decade, but I can add DELI BOYS to the list. It is so much fun.

DELI BOYS succeeds where so many sitcoms fail. It is genuinely funny, but it has that larger than life situation that helps it be funny. The surprising and shocking twists and turns make it laugh out loud funny.

There's a nice ensemble cast that makes this show work. The cast has really nice chemistry.

With so many comedies that don't work because they are unfunny dramedies or zinger based one liner sitcoms, we really need fun shows like DELI BOYS. I really hope Hulu renews it for a second season.

DELIcious

I'm a middle aged woman of German and Polish heritage and I love this show. The writing shines and the acting sparkles . Lucky steals every scene she has. The show is very funny but not for children or sensitive people. There is blood and racism. If you can look past those things you have a new favorite show.

Each character is surprisingly deep for a comedy in my opinion They are quite distinct from each other The two main characters are convincing as brothers yet different from each other I want Prairie to be my new BFF. I hope there is a season 2 I want to know what happens next. You don't want to know how the "sausage " is made.

Fresh comedy with just enough mystery

This is a binge worthy comedy loaded with talent. A new take on entitled kids taking over for daddy's business, from the first episode the brothers are blindsided by all the drama and suspense behind every corner. I don't want to fill this with spoilers. What I will share is if you like sarcasm, smart writing and suspense you will love this show. The relationship between the brothers comes across a genuine and that's owed to the chemistry of the two stars. Veteran actress Poorna Jagannathan Plays a total bad ass in this and completely against character of anything I have seen her in. Theres something in this universe that reminds me of Barry and specifically the NoHo Hank character arc.

I hope it gets renewed and people find this on Hulu as these are characters I want to see develop.

False advertising

With a cast that is primarily Indian (with the father being Israeli - all too common in Pakistani families, naturellement!), who is this actually meant for? It would be more accurate to bill this show as Indian-American, but I guess that's off the table when scams are involved. I will, however, concede it's a step up (for us) from them stepping in to play Pakistani terrorists.

Unsurprisingly, most Indians aren't really interested in the exploits of "Pakistanis" - though look past the ostentatious chain worn by one character and the few times a headscarf is shown and it's enough for anyone to forget they're meant to be watching something with "Pakistanis" in it, something made even easier to do when no Muslim would bear the names these characters do, as mentioned by another reviewer.

Worth Watching!

...unless you're on your period because this show will have you laughing and hurting your stomach!

This is a wonderfully written and casted show. This includes the supporting actors did a fantastic job. Sometimes they didn't even have to speak, their facial expressions and reactions were spot on! It's great to see Saagar Shaikh again. I loved him in Ms. Marvel. Poorna Jagannathan is always a delight to watch. She brings a charisma, magnetic charm, and appeal to the screen! Asif Ali

I also love that they chose Philadelphia (even though it's shot in Chicago) to base the story. It's relatable but also refreshing with a twist. Definitely worth watching!
