Known for independent films, A24 has become more mainstreamand backed several Oscar winners, including Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

While a handful of recent releases have divided moviegoers, the company continues to produce a variety of films each year. Among some popular A24 movies are Lady Bird and Uncut Gems, and the studio has also been known for horror projects, including Talk to Me and the X trilogy.

When it comes to fantasy, A24 has been behind The Green Knight and Dream Scenario, which garnered impressive Tomatometer scores of 89% and 91%, respectively. The latest genre hybrid is Death of a Unicorn, which underwhelmed commercially and only scored 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film has recently climbed into the top 3 on streaming platforms like HBO Max in the US since premiering there on August 8, per Flixpatrol. In less than a week, it has captured a new audience, driven by its star-studded cast featuring Pedro Pascal, Dominique Thorne, Angus Cloud, Normani, Ji-young Yoo, Marshawn Lynch, Jack Champion, Keir Gilchrist, and a surprise appearance by Tom Hanks.

What is Freaky Tales About?

The anthology, crafted by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, brings together four distinct stories set in Oakland, California, in 1987. Pascal stars as Clint in “Born to Mack,” a criminal trying to leave his past behind. Pascal's anthology action comedy film, Freaky Tales, enjoys a redemption story on HBO Max after largely being buried in theaters.

Per FlixPatrol, Freaky Tales is one of the most popular HBO Max titles in the United States. The film ranks second on the streaming service's top 10 movie chart, only topped by Final Destination Bloodlines.

Directed and written by Captain Marvel helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Freaky Tales originally debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January of last year, where it received positive reviews. The movie received a limited theatrical release in April, grossing very little at the box office, and debuted on HBO Max on Aug. 8.

Exclusive: Following a busy 2025 that included an Emmy nominated performance and a Marvel Studios movie, Pedro Pascal isn’t looking to slow down as he is in talks to star in the Searchlight Pictures pic Behemoth! from writer-director Tony Gilroy. Searchlight recently came on to the project which Gilroy will write and direct. While the deal is not closed, sources say Pascal wants to do it and things are headed in the right direction.

Plot details are vague at this time but Gilroy has said in interviews that the film revolves around a cellist. Gilroy would also produce with Sanne Wohlenberg. The film is set to begin principal photography this fall in Los Angeles, with release plans to be announced at a later date.

Details of The Fantastic Four: First Steps' post-credits scene have been doing the rounds for a while, but it seems the stinger was originally going to set up the events of Avengers: Doomsday in a very different way.

According to scooper Mttsh, Marvel was considering reintroducing Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in his Nomad persona before plans changed.

An international teaser for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps has found its way online, giving us a look at quite a bit of new footage from the MCU reboot.

The tone is a little more sombre than previous trailers, as Marvel's First Family begin to comprehend the magnitude of the threat Galactus and the Silver Surfer pose to their world.

Speaking of the Devourer of Worlds, we do get a new look at the all-powerful villain, but the shot cuts away just before his full face is unveiled. We have seen plenty of promo art and merchandise at this stage, but it seems Marvel does intend to save the full reveal for the movie.

Despite showing up in the first teaser for the movie, speculation mounted that the legendary John Malkovich may have been cut from The Fantastic Four: First Steps after the actor's name was absent from a recent synopsis.

Now, we have confirmation that Malkovich's character - the villainous Red Ghost - will not appear in the MCU reboot.

“There were a lot of things that ultimately ended up hitting the cutting room floor,” director Matt Shakman tells Variety. “When we were building a ’60s retro-future world, introducing all of these villains, introducing these four main characters as a group, as well as individually, introducing the idea of a child — there was a lot of stuff to balance in this movie and some things had to go ultimately in terms of shaping the film for its final version.”

Marvel Studios' has launched one of its most impressive marketing campaigns yet for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with a number of publications such as Time, Men's Health and People featuring members of Marvel's First Family in a series of in-universe cover stories.

Marvel Studios has released a new teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it focuses on Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) turning on the charm in an attempt to gain the affections of the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) and sway her from her mission.

We learned that Johnny had a thing for Shalla-Bal in a previous trailer when he told his teammates that he didn't need any help to "kill sexy aliens," and here we see him approach Galactus' herald in Human Torch form and ask if her surfboard is attached to her body.

Marvel Studios has released some new product-based character posters for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, featuring all four members of the team advertising various items such as "Mirage Gloves" (Invisible Woman), and "Hot Aftershave" (The Human Torch).

30 minutes of the MCU reboot was screened at a press event in London yesterday, and we now have some more details on what was shown courtesy of Mttsh.

We already know that villains Puppet Master, Mad Thinker, Diablo, Red Ghost, and the Wizard are mentioned (we're not sure if they actually appear), and it's now being reported that we will see the Fantastic Four face-off against Mole Man's monster while wearing their classic black and blue costumes.

The grossest, goriest, and most gratuitous of the year are set to be feted at the 2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.

The horror magazine has unveiled the nominees for its signature awards, which includes the big categories you'd expect — like Best Wide Release and Best Lead Performance — and some you mind not—like Best Video Game and Best Public Domain Resurrection.

The Chainsaw Awards are also among the first opportunities for this year's potential awards frontrunner, Sinners, to flex its muscles. (Metaphorical muscles. Michael B. Ryan Coogler's period vampire thriller is in contention for Best Wide Release — where it will compete with 28 Years Later — and boasts a total of ten nominations in all.

The Marvel Studios TikTok page has shared a new teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and while it's only around 15 seconds long, it does feature a few news shots from the movie.

In addition to Johnny Storm telling his teammates that it's "time to save the planet" (surely another it's clobberin' time gag?), we see Reed Richards asking the others to trust him... a plan which Johnny and Ben Grimm aren't fully on board with (the way this is edited suggests that it might be footage/dialogue from two different scenes).

We also get another quick glimpse of The Thing rocking a beard, which is a look from the comics fans were not expecting to see in this film. There's speculation that this could signify a time-jump, but we don't know for certain.

In not-at-all surprising news, First Steps has been given an official MPA rating of PG-13 for “action/violence and some language.

The entire plot of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps, along with every major story development, surprise character appearance, and post-credit scene detail, has seemingly leaked online.

The breakdown was shared on Reddit, and while we're all fully aware that the site does get its share of fake "leaks," we've reached out to a source who is confident that everything is on the level. Plus, based on what we already know about the movie, there's nothing here that stands out as being overly far-fetched or hard to believe.

With this in mind, beware of potentially major spoilers from this point on.

The breakdown reveals that the movie opens with a montage showing the team's past battles against Mole Man and "Red Ghost and his chimps." In present day, Sue Storm learns that she's pregnant shortly before the Silver Surfer arrives to inform them that Galactus is on his way to devour their planet.

Marvel Studios has announced that the final trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released online this Wednesday, and we have a (very) brief new clip featuring Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

In what we assume to be a few seconds of footage from the upcoming trailer, we see Johnny ask his grouchy teammate what time it is. Ben responds with a curt, "it's dinner time."

So far, we haven't really seen that much interaction between these two, but this is a good sign that the often contentious big brother/little brother dynamic will carry over from the comics.

The first look at a new tie-in popcorn holder for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been shared online, and it features Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) using his stretchy abilities - something we've only seen very briefly in the trailers and TV spots.

Mr. Fantastic is (obviously) using his arm to grasp the bucket here, but the internet being the internet, some fans have latched on to the fact that, from a certain angle, it does kind of look like it could be... another body part.

This is just the latest in a large range of First Steps popcorn buckets that will soon be available. This one won't be quite as pricey as that massive Galactus collectible, however, and will set you back $39.99.

Happy Father's Day! Marvel Studios has marked the occasion with a new teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, focusing on "Marvel's First Father," Reed Richards.

The brief clip doesn't give us a look at Mr. Fantastic in action, unfortunately, but Pedro Pascal fans should appreciate the retro-style footage.

"I see a limitless amount of layers to this character," Pascal said of his take on Richards during a recent interview with Empire. "He does the ultimate version of catastrophising. A brain that has an overview of threats on a mathematical level, but also being emotionally available. It was a fascinating contradiction."

Though accurate box office estimates won't arrive for another couple of weeks, a recent forecast predicted a $125 million - to $155 million debut for the MCU reboot. Whether First Steps will prove to be the massive hit Marvel Studios really needs it to be obviously remains to be seen.

We're over six weeks away from the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, so while box office tracking is still a ways off, BoxOfficeTheory.com has shared their early forecast for the MCU reboot's opening weekend.

Based on factors such as ticket pre-sales, trailer views/reactions, Marvel's previous late summer openers and the competition the movie will face when it hits theaters, the site is predicting a domestic debut of between $125 million and $136 million.

"At the risk of understating, a release two weeks after Superman (July 11) will be incredibly interesting to follow," they write. "In an era when many audiences have become more selective about which comic book films get them into cinemas, the year’s two biggest properties from that realm will aim to coexist in the lucrative late summer corridor. Either way, die hard fans will show up for both."

Tickets for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps went on sale yesterday, and have been selling very well so far, with reports of purchase links crashing due to high demand.

Regardless, the majority of fans seem to be looking forward to the MCU reboot, and yesterday's new teaser arguably went over better than the recent full trailer, as we got to see a bit more of Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm's personalities, as well as a little "it's clobberin' time" tease.

We figured tickets for The Fantastic Four: First Steps might go on sale at some point this week, and Marvel Studios has now officially announced that you'll be able to book your seat for the long-awaited MCU reboot tomorrow.

We may get a new trailer once purchase links go live (we'd say a featurette and some new posters are more likely), but for now, we have a retro one-sheet featuring Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, the Thing, H.E.R.B.I.E. the robot, and the Fantasticar.

Kevin Feige spoke on the importance of introducing these characters to the MCU during a recent interview with Empire.

“I think that there are no four characters that are more important for the history of Marvel. When Disney bought Fox, it was really an unexpected dream come true. It came at the perfect time, to help us launch into a new era.

Given the fact that Robert Downey Jr. will soon step into the role of Doctor Doom in the MCU, and that the character is most closely associated with Marvel's First Family, fans have understandably been speculating that the villain could make his debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Now, director Matt Shakman has provided us with a pretty definitive answer.

While speaking to Empire for the movie mag's latest issue, Shakman stated: "Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview."

According to a few different sources, the post-credits scene that was attached to a recent test-screening did feature the villain, with Sue Storm returning to Franklin's crib to find Doom sitting beside the boy while holding his mask in his hands.

Do Shakman's comments suggest that this leak is inaccurate? Not necessarily.
