Tim Burton has said that this film would only be made if Michael Keaton would return to reprise his role. Keaton said in March of 2014 that this is the only sequel he's interested in doing.
Winona Ryder had only one condition when she first met Stranger Things (2016) creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer for a role they wanted her to play on Netflix: If "Beetlejuice 2" ever got off the ground, they'd have to let her take a break from the series to film it. They agreed.

The shrinker characters in the film are fully practical. Inside the costumes are experienced creature performers Paul Warren and Nick Kellington (to name a couple). The tiny heads are completely animatronic and are being remote controlled off set by puppeteers.
Both Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton opted to keep the character as politically incorrect as he was in the original film due to their love for that character trait in spite of the political correctness in modern films because "he doesn't evolve."
