The film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival. There, Peter Sarsgaard won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for his performance.
The movie came to Michel Franco's mind with a simple idea of a man following a woman in the street, without knowing why or who these characters were. He first felt it was about vengeance, but after talking about it to his sister, he decided to choose a very different path, and went on from there.
The movie was almost entirely shot on location in New York City, except for Sylvia's apartment, which was built in an art gallery.
Secured a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement the day before its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
