Are you people expecting perfection every time you watch a show or movie? So many negative reviews and 1 star ratings. Really? You think this show is as bad as could possibly be? That's what the one implies.
The show is exactly what it advertised, a silly cartoon with decent jokes based of a admittedly meh card game. I personally like the relationship between GC and DC. The family is not exactly new or unique, but they stick to their cliche roles and do it well. Chill out, lower your standards and have a little fun. If all you ever expect is the best then you will be constantly disappointed. Thanks for reading.

I sat down one night, popcorn in hand,
To watch "Jurassic Park," the best in the land.
But what did I see? To my surprise, Exploding kittens before my eyes!
Cartoon cats, oh so cute, Blowing up, in hot pursuit.
Expecting dinos, but got this instead, Funny felines messing with my head.
Their antics were wild, their humor quite bold, A show full of laughter, stories untold.
No T-Rex roaring, no Velociraptor chase, Just kittens with bombs all over the place.
Animation bright, voices so clear, Quirky adventures, plenty to cheer.
Though it wasn't the dino flick I craved, "Exploding Kittens" still had me enslaved.
A solid 7, for fun and delight, But for Jurassic thrills, I'll switch tonight.
Kittens, you were great, you played your part, But nothing beats dinos, they steal my heart.

Perhaps the mere fact that my low expectations were so widely exceeded OR.. or... And bear with me now (is it 'bear' or 'bare'? ).. OR perhaps it's just REALLY GOOD (cause it IS), but I'm loving this! And for the official record, my pedigree in western animation is substantial (don't tell anyone but I actually watch em all, which for a middle aged white guy, is sad?) but, ya this is solid 100 percent worth your time! Animation 9 voice acting 9 Story 9 (so why did I give it an 8? Lol, cause for me 9s are 10s and I reserve 10s for the all time like an Attenborough documentary or Rick and Morty, sooo...)
What's great about other Oatmeal's art is its cute sarcasm: it's sharp and unforgiving, yet kinda lovable. Even monster babies are adorable, in their own disgusting way - but it's still delivering the point, like "cats rules, babies suck", and the like.
Here, the cuteness of the characters is all there - the art style of the drawings is transitioned into the animation quite impeccably: everything looks ugly and beautiful at the same time. The voice acting is a good match, too - mostly, anyway. But the sarcasm is severely lacking.
It's just too nice.
Don't get me wrong, there still are fairly sharp jokes and puns and some sarcastic attitude (like the fair part of the SeaWorld episode), but the whole premise of God being selfish jerk is lost pretty much in episode 1, and the evil is pretty much never materialises at any point. And all the family values...
Too nice.

Yeah...so I gave this a fair shot since I figured a lot of the negative reviews were just brigaiding from the religious lot. Nah though, it's just not that great.
It feels like the "hello fellow kids, I too enjoy musicband" of adult animation. The jokes aren't *bad* but they are kinda stale and tryhard. The visual gags are a little bit better, but only a little bit. The dialogue/voice acting is a kind of Upbeat Quirky Snark™ that was already feeling done to death 10 years ago. It just feels so, so generic, "safe", like it was made purely for mass commercial appeal by a panel of old men.
The parenting jokes are overdone and not well integrated. The teens are so clearly written by adults that don't know any teens. The cats are seriously underutilised and when they do get screen time it's more imitation edginess that just doesn't land. It's boring. It's a shame because the concept isn't a bad one, it just totally fails to deliver.
I can't even call it bad - it's not interesting enough to be bad - but it's really not good either.

I've seen some negative reviews of this show that I don't really agree with. The humour is not the most original or deep but it still works. The reason why I want to see this get higher reviews is that it's the first direct to steaming adult cartoon I have seen in a long time that actually cares about the animation. It has its own look, unique character designs ,fluidity, colour, all the things that Netflix animation has lacked few years. And they haven't fill that with celebrity voiceovers which is a big Plus it's been a long last time since I saw a cartoon that used professional voice actors and I think it makes a difference.

Exploding Kittens is an absolute blast! The show brilliantly captures the quirky, fun essence of the original card game, delivering laugh-out-loud moments in every episode. The animation is vibrant and energetic, perfectly complementing the zany antics of the characters. The humor is spot-on, appealing to both kids and adults alike, with witty dialogue and clever scenarios that keep you eagerly awaiting the next explosion of fun. Whether you're a fan of the game or new to the franchise, Exploding Kittens is a must-watch for anyone looking for a wildly entertaining and hilariously unpredictable experience.

First of all I will say, I didn't know it was a game but I just loved this!!! Tom Ellis' voice made this for me, knew it immediately and great casting! I'm surprised at the low ratings and I think it should be all 10's. I definitely lol'd throughout and actually binged it, went right through and enjoyed every single minute. I recommend this to everyone I know, especially cat lovers. I agree with one reviewer who said everyone needs to relax and chill out! This was never meant to win an Oscar, it's just pure comedic entertainment. Although I think I'm going to rewatch Lucifer again! Need me some Tom Ellis.
This show is funny, but why in the world is it TV-MA!? There is literally nothing explicit! There is gore and some references but absolutely NO PROFANITY IN THE ENTIRE 9 EPISODES! WHY TV-MA? This show was super entertaining and had me laughing the whole time, it was pretty fun and I had an overall good time. I hope this gets green lit for season 2 because I enjoyed it and had a fun time watching it. It wasn't perfect, but it did its job well, I was laughing and smiling while watching and wasn't ever bored. So I give seven stars because I was entertained and spit out my water multiple times because it was so funny!

The positive reviews have to be sock puppets or friends of Matthew Inman because this show is tedious and unfunny. It's low-brow, like the comics, so I expected the humor to be quite basic, but I wasn't expecting it to be so bad. There is nothing clever in this series, nothing worth watching. If you're a huge fan of Inman's, and lets face it, there has to be a few out there for this train crash to have been greenlit, you might get a couple of mild chuckles. I have given it 2 stars, it's really a 1.5 star effort. They should have brought in some good writers, even average writers would have come up with something better than this. My 6-year-old nephew told me to turn it off because he found it boring so I'm not sure who the target demographic is.
It is on the same level as good as Family Guy or American Dad, beautifully executed and super hilarious, thanks!
But just because IMDB insist on longer reviews, here's an extended version: " Sure! Here's the expanded review:
This animation stands on the same level of excellence as shows like Family Guy and American Dad. The execution is nothing short of beautiful, blending sharp, vibrant visuals with fluid motion that keeps the eye engaged. The humor is super hilarious, striking a perfect balance between wit and absurdity, ensuring that every episode leaves you in stitches. The characters are well-developed, each with their own unique quirks and comedic timing that adds depth and variety to the show. The storyline is consistently entertaining, with clever writing and unexpected twists that keep you eagerly anticipating what comes next. Overall, it's a fantastic blend of humor, artistry, and storytelling that makes it a must-watch for any animation enthusiast. Thanks for creating such an enjoyable show!"

I've never played the famous card game, so I'm not sure if not being familiar with it affected my experience watching this animation.
Initially when seeing god turn into a cat, I got very excited. The cat moments made me smile, like knocking things off tables, going crazy over the laser pointer etc.
Then it became boring and I stopped watching.
The next day I gave it another chance, probably because I was in a different mood. This time I kept watching until the end and I didn't get bored again.
I was more drawn to devilcat, she felt cuter to me, but I also liked the chaotic relationship between her and godcat. The ending was quite interesting and I'm curious to see what the next season brings (hopefully more kittens!)
Yeah, the show is not great, but it's not awful either. Maybe you just need to be in the right mood to watch it, without expectations, being prepared for silly things, like weird monsters and foolish action moments, combined with family issues/lessons and some sarcastic comments about generational stereotypes.
It's mostly an adult cartoon, even if it feels teens would appreciate it more, but I don't think they would get all of the jokes.

I get the feeling that this show could have bee so much better, with a lot more of Mat Inmans jokes and side steps and wit, but feels like it was diluted way way down by the producers or the writers.
I love al lhis cartoons, but the show (in spite of some great voice talent) is just mediocre - it's way, way, too American mainstream - all that high-school stuff, and big box stores, and it just seems like it's playing too safe.
There's undoubtably a story behind this, but the pivot to mainstream USA mediocrity was not the outcome I was expecting based on his cartoons.
The writers, or more likely the production team he got assigned, just turned this from what could have been quirky into something just mush. A shameful waste of his talent.

Did not finished it yet, as Binge-watching always results in half understanding and enjoying something, but watched enough to see, that this cartoon is not a bad one, but does not really translates the fun of the base material.
Not like it's an easy task to do. It's a card game... Yet the animated "shorts" they made for these card games were always had the dark humor, that every time made me want to see more.
Well... This is not like those. Still an allrightish cartoon and i think i will finish it, but it's more like a story that got filled with some stuff from Exploding kittens, and used the name of the card game to fish viewers than a cartoon made with the "spirit" of the card game.
So. TL;DR: Watch it, and decide it yourself, but think of it as a cartoon with cats and dark humor instead of Exploding Kittens. That will help.

The show is overall enjoyable, some jokes are clever and some jokes are the stuff we heard hundreds of times. Godcat's transform from an egoist and selfish cat to a caring and happy cat is a nice addition to the series. It has nothing too special in it but nothing horrible either. This show is best when you want to watch a comedy without any efforts and have some fun time. I would recommend extremely religious people to stay away from this show because of the fact that most of the jokes are written on God and creation relationships but aside that, just give it a go. I don't think that you will regret it.

Not gonna lie I smoked up real good before and during so I was dying laughing. I can admit it might've been altered thinking. But the jokes landed, a lot! The characters were funny. I loved many of the dry whited one liners. For real! I mean come on..."he's like an onion ring that learned to cuss" that's funny to me. Some goofy immature humor. Some great references to pop culture. I don't know what all made me like it, I just do. You'd know from episode one if it's for you. They get funnier but if you're rolling your eyes in episode one. Just stop there, no harm. If you like it, well then just sit back smoke and enjoy.

I laughed out loud maybe 2 or 3 times during season 1. It can be surreal, a bit daft and pretty close to the bone. But it can also be a little generic and occasionally drifts into the realm of time filler. It was only the first season and I reckon it has the potential to develop into something with more legs. The characters are a mixed bag. I found Greta to be the family member with the most depth and her brother to be a bit annoying. Both parents are pretty 1 dimensional and get old pretty quick. Some of the Heaven and hell characters were amusing, but I also thought there was too many to keep track of. God Cat is a highlight as is Beelzeebub, although the actresses voice gets a little grating after a while. Watchable with potential to grow into something better.

This is a well written animated series with an amazing voice cast. Especially the choice for Tom Ellis, known for playing the Devil in Lucifer, as Godcat has worked out particularly well. His smooth soothing English accent as a contrast to the overweight big cat is very well chosen. The other voices are all good matches to their characters.
The series itself is very entertaining and fun to look at, while also being socially engaged. Tackling several current day issues in family life and business, in a fast and fun way. The many (little and not so little) jokes and references to the film industry are hilarious.
Towards the end the plot gets more and more exciting making vyou want to binge right to the very end.

This is a bit of a stinker, so I'm not sure how other reviews are rating it soo high but I'm not laughing. I wanted to be fair so I'm fighting through more than i want to watch.
Finding out Mike Judge was a producer is salt in the wound as Office space is 1 of my favorite comedies. King of the hill had it's time too. Maybe i assumed because it's Netflix and it popped up on my feed, that this would be more adult but NOPE. It's feeling more of a young teen comedy. So far the only times I've laughed or smiled, is cat based jokes, like a laser pointer joke and how cats push things off tables.
The premise is sorta interesting i guess but i can definitely see that this will get backlash from Christians. It's not even that God is a cat, he's portrayed as having a disdain for humans.
There's not much else to say about this show, maybe you will like it and maybe, like me, you won't. Or maybe you will never read this, as this is my first review.
Thanks for coming out.

I absolutely loved it. Even though I am religious Christian, I love any and all fun as humor IS humor.
I also like cats... and dark humor and action and this show delivered.
In fact, I stopped watching the trailer after about 15 seconds as I just knew there's no point to continue and I will love it. If you liked Ted TV show and movies, this will be somewhat similar.
I hope authors of this will bring more season with more episodes There were a lot of LOL moments, a lot of chuckles and head shaking at the dialogs. Sometimes when I watch Simplson or Family guy, I am happy to smile a couple of times. This show is where my face was tired from smiling and grinning for the full duration of the episodes!!!
It is NOT for everyone. Watch the trailer, know if it's your cup of tea. Don't be that guy who watches looney toons and scoobydoo and now hated this... lol.

It's like so many other things: take a well-known and popular brand, put a mentally totally broken team of writers to the task of making a cartoon series filled with faecal language and sell the whole thing as the millionth bland copy of South Park that shows how culturally and socially rotten our world is.
I'll tell you something without giving anything away: it's not funny. It's stupid.
Yes, every now and then a teenager might smile because... he's a teenager. The rest switches back to Rick and Morty. It may not be exactly Shakespeare either, but it's still more creative than that and, above all, more or less an original idea.
Switch off and play the card game with family or friends. That's always better than this.

The comedy is aight I mean I've seen other adult animated shows that have more creative comedy but when this show drops a hard ass comedy it is a bit funny and the show also have very great animation overall and also this show certainly embraced adult animation as a whole with its gore and profanity that other animated series failes on which is impressive and also the show does NOT take itself very seriously like AT ALL which is good for comedy show. Now for the characters, they're decent Godcat is alright and devilcat as well both Sasheer and Tom did a great job adding charisma via their voice acting, and as always mark prosch and ally maki is good so I'm pretty happy in the outcome of the show as a whole. We'll see what next seasons got for us.

Letting my nine year old write a blurb down below because he'd like to see another season from them. As a parent, with a fairly mature child, I was fine with letting him watch the show. He loves playing the card game with his grandparents and uncles and he was really excited that they were making an animated series.
It's funny enough and mostly what you'd expect from a project with Mike Judge's involvement (we're still a couple of years away from Bevis and Butthead - both old and new).
Now that I've met the character requirements, here's Walter's review:
I love the series, the story and the game I want them to make a season 2 of exploding kittens.

We were eagerly anticipating this show for months because we're fans of Matthew Inman and his sense of humor. We love The Oatmeal and the games he's created so we thought this would be similarly smart and funny. It's not. If that's what brought you to the show, you're in for a huge disappointment. For those who watch it without any expectations founded on his other projects however, is seems to go over better. The show is filled with kind of humor that might make you chuckle once every few episodes. Exploding Kittens fits right in with most of the forgettable content made by Netflix.
Tl; Dr not for fans of The Oatmeal.
Tl; Dr not for fans of The Oatmeal.
Exploding kittens takes the chaos of the card game and captures it in animated form making it a fun watch relatable to the annoyances of humanity, however instead of using the unique designs and outlandish characters from inman's wide range of card games he falls on a formulistic story mocking common sit com tropes. The creator has brief Easter eggs and references to his games and comics but it doesn't actually seem to relate to the game play of any of them. We need to see how having his characters and mythological characters and cryptids in heaven and hell actually makes this world unique. Season 2 should build the world based on the card game and those included in show not just the worst of earths society and religion.
