Overdrive mashes so many ideas from other movies that it was hard to keep up with all of them and so I stopped counting when I couldn't keep up. Sure, stealing from other movies isn't a bad idea when you add your own touch. As some guy once said "steal like an artist" but with this one, it's like you're watching a weird reenactment of cool ideas from other movies without adding your own details or imprint or at least gluing them together with some sense.
And this is the case with this movie. They made a soup of ideas from other films: vintage and sports cars, protagonists that get trapped in doing a "job" for the rich douche bag, pretty locations, chases, and cute faces.
But when you add in really bad acting, way too many plot twists and side characters, an absolute lack of chemistry between the main actors, boring racing scenes and some of the stupidest lines of dialogue one can only wonder how come no one realized it was destined to fail in such a loud way?
Speaking of loudness - here is a message to its creators: turning that goddamn volume up to 1 million won't make it more entertaining but instead leave its viewers with a gigantic headache.
I could, however, see 2 qualities in this racing flick: some pretty panoramic views of France (a la Fast and Furious, of course) and the protagonist half-brothers who actually felt like they were half brothers.
Teens will probably fall in love with the cute faces but otherwise, you should stay away from this poor man's Fast and Furious because it "overdrives" far from its inspiration points way up to the realm of too much, or too little. Drive Over it and go see something else.
Also, who the **** eats cereal at night?

Classic old school plot. Classic getaway. Classic cars. Classic chases but with beautiful shots of tight mountain roads. Pretty girls (only two of them). Nice soundtrack.
The makers of this movie failed to add depth to the main characters, because they shouldn't have even tried. The movie has enough pretty cars, two(yes, only two) pretty girls, decent pace which was watered down with shallow love stories. For some reason it gives the feeling that they cannot fail which spoils the thrill: "How are they gonna make it now!?". Yes, acting was cheesy, but convincing enough so you can bare it before the next chase. Clint Eastwood's son was so stiff, that I was expecting him to spit tobacco and to get on the horse at any moment now. The good thing - every single stunt was very real. No zero gravity, no "turn off the physics for a while" moments. Engine roar, rubber and grip. I would prefer this one before any of the last FF movies.

Overdrive is a pretty fun movie, decent car action, ok characters. Overall it's not an awful movie to watch when you have nothing to do, but it is lacking in substance. The storyline is somewhat interesting but leaves a lot of plot holes. I wouldn't not recommend it but I also guess I would recowarn it. It's not the best film out there but there is far worse. I only watched it for Ana De Armas and she didn't disappoint, Scott Eastwood is pretty good and everyone else plays a decent part as well. Not disappointing but nothing to brag about.
Poor old Clunk Eastwood must be rolling in his grave...or would be if he was pan but almost every actor in this is awful.
Its probably notable that Karl Urban pulled out and many others so it seems the roles went to those at the bottom of the barrel and I do hear that old Clunk Eastwood gave the producers a back hander to get his son into it.
The English bloke Freddie just couldn't act - it was painful - I actually feel sorry for the wee chap!
Cant stand the London Idris Elba accent - he is another overrated actor if you can call him that but i digress.
Ana De Armas who i hear is in the new Bladerunner movie which i haven't seen yet and now makes me think twice as she was another of the acting eyebrows, bit of fluff on a stick style non-actress - I wonder which directors casting couch she laid out on to get into acting - Harvey maybe! ;p;
So bad, bad is the acting but on the positive side - the cars were good to look at and there were a few good explosions and bridges collapsing and you get a half decent car chase or two but the story is nothing spectacular - I don't really go for car movies much as in my opinion the car chase in "COLD SWEAT" with Charles Bronson is one of the best even though Steve McQueen fans may argue that one but this is nothing in comparison.
Could have been much better if they had found some actors who could like .. welll .... act!

I was very disappointed with this movie. There was way too much going on and it was hard to follow.

- WissenswertesThe Ferrari 250 GTO in the movie is not one of the genuine 36 250 GTO's. Instead it is a replica, based on a Ferrari 250 GTE, chassis number 4861GT, owned by a French collector. This is unsurprising as a real car of such used in the film would be valued at several millions: the current record for world's most expensive car was set a year after the films release (2018: a 1963 250 GTO (chassis 4153GT) sold in a private sale for $70 million; and another in auction (GTO 3413GT) at some $48,000,000): prior to the film being made, a bid of $34,000,000 secured one in 2014.
- PatzerIn the opening scene where the BMW M3 turns into the path of the semi, the dashboard of the car shows the vehicle in park, something the car would not likely allow the driver to do while moving.
