Alex Honnold in Free Solo (2018)
‘Edge of the Unknown With Jimmy Chin’ Examines the Real Stakes of Adventure Athletes (Video)
Alex Honnold in Free Solo (2018)
It’s hard not to wince watching Free Solo, the Oscar-winning doc about rock climber Alex Honnold ascending Yosemite’s 3,000-foot El Capitan vertical face — without a rope — in 2017. The film’s directors, Jimmy Chin and E. Chai Vasarhelyi, now look to the habits of other adventure athletes in Edge of the Unknown With Jimmy Chin, a 10-part series (which moves to 10/9c September 6 and appears on Disney+ September 7). (Credit: National Geographic/Teague Wasserman) “What drew me to telling these stories is the commitment level,” says Chin, who is an executive producer with Vasarhelyi. “We want to show people what’s really happening behind [some epic adventures and] understand what the stakes are.” Viewers will spend time with Sarah McNair-Landry, a second-generation polar explorer who attempted to cross the Northwest Passage during a brutal winter. And there’s big-mountain skier Angel Collinson, who survived a fall that sent her tumbling 1,000 feet down the side of an Alaskan mountain.

Disney+ New Releases September 2022
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode IV - Eine neue Hoffnung (1977)
This month Disney will be hosting Disney+ Day, which means the streamer’s list of new releases for September 2022 is more jam-packed than usual.

Keeping with tradition, however, the biggest release this month is of the Marvel of Star Wars variety, with Star Wars taking its turn after Marvel did with She-Hulk in August. Prequel series Andor is set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 with three episodes. Starring Diego Luga as the titular rogue, Andor will take place in the time before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney has big plans for this property, with an uncommonly large 12-episode order set to run throughout the fall.

Some other big Disney franchises stake their claims with month with Pixar’s Cars on the Road and The Simpsons short “Welcome to the Club” both arriving on Sept. 8. Also premiering that day is the Robert Zemeckis film Pinocchio. Later on, Disney+ will...

Everything Coming to Disney+ in September 2022
Image
September is quite the month over at Disney+. The Disney streaming giant is the perfect place to spend the early months of back-to-school season, with something for the entire family. If you’re a Marvel fan, no doubt you’ll continue to watch the adventures of Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) in “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” For fans of “Rogue One,” ready to venture to a galaxy far, far away, there’s new spin-off series “Andor.” Then Halloween comes early with the premiere of the long-awaited sequel, “Hocus Pocus 2,” starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

With plenty more on the docket, we here at IndieWire are laying out everything coming to Disney+ this month. But among the many titles (and after plenty of hit-and-miss Disney+ franchise extensions), “Star Wars” still looms large. Originally announced at the D23 fan convention back in 2019, audiences will finally get to see...
