In the original US release of the NES version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989) references to the American Pizza restaurant chain Pizza Hut is referenced in the background of the first two levels. However, due to the license for this copyright having already expired, it received similar editing to the Japanese release of that game which removed the references.
Among the bonus content of the game, it includes episode pictures along with titles and airdates from every episode of every Ninja Turtles cartoon that were released before this (Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (1987), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012), and Der Aufstieg der Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018)). This also includes various comic book covers from the comic book series that were distributed by Mirage, Archie, and IDW, which the latter as of this date is still continuing its comic book series as well as distribution the older comics and their comic book collections both in print and digitally. This makes IDW Publishing the only other major distributor of the franchise other than Viacom as of the release of this game.
While the original release dates for the episodes and comics seen in the gallery are listed, however due the delay of the 2003 series episode Insane in the Membrane (2006) (which did not in the US until 2015, but was released on digital platforms prior to that) due to content issues, the airdate for the original airing in the UK October 14, 2006 was used instead.
