If you are looking for a great feel-good movie without the typical corny kid stuff or unrealistic fairy tales, then this may just be the movie for you. The main character, driven by the almost child-like faith that he can achieve his goal to not only get his music heard by the idols of his youth, but make a feature film about his pursuit. This movie has you believing in the long forgotten American Dream again, Jersey Style. Chris Vaughn takes the audience along for the ride while he pursues his dream, encountering many characters unique to the Jersey Shore experience. I should add that I watched it twice with my family and liked it more the second time. My first viewing I rated it a 7 out of ten, but after the second viewing I must give it an 8. I added two bonus stars for an even ten, for each time I watch the film.

I first heard about this movie not too long ago, which is hilarious considering that I was living right next to where it was shot. This film truly encapsulates the American dream, where anybody with enough persistence and passion can accomplish their dreams. It was very inspiring to see this ragtag group of new filmmakers strive to do what some may see as impossible. Some of the shots may look a little unprofessional by film standards, but to me that makes it more human. You can't help but root for Chris. I think we could all see a little bit of ourselves in this film and despite a few flaws, I think it's story can be inspiring for all who watch.

The movie was excellent! Chris is following his dream, and as you watch you'll see how friends, family, and people he meets on this journey are cheering for him. He's a talented guy, friendly, faithful and family oriented. His music is meaningful. Things get tough, but it seems to make him more determined. You'll laugh along with the funny times, and feel his struggles as they relate to the struggles we all face. You're in for some unexpected things, but unexpected and Chris seem to go together. It's a movie that you don't want to miss a minute of, because you just don't know what will happen next. I can honestly say that I think most people would enjoy it ... so go make yourself happy and enjoy the movie!

This movie has it all, the ups and downs. At one moment it seems as if everything is going right and success is inevitable until another set back. His inner perseverance and determination along with friends and family has him chasing a dream which he will not be denied. This is something we all have in us and Chris brings it out. Chris Vaughn is a risk taker and who is always upbeat and funny through a ton of negative situations. This is a microcosm of life in which nothing is guaranteed but through hard work, support and an inner belief the journey can be accomplished. This movie will have you on your seat the entire time it has comedy, obstacles and roller coaster ride from start to finish.

I can't lie, I wasn't expecting this amuture documentary to be as entertaining as it was. There's a real genuine heart you have to admire here. Most of it really stemming from Chris's infectious can-do attitude. There's no question that Chris's sincerity as both subject and filmmaker gives the film its core appeal. His vulnerability on camera is genuine, and the film does a good job of capturing the textured, working-class backdrop of coastal New Jersey. You get the sense that this is a very personal project, crafted with heart and grit. The biggest compliment I can give the doc, heart aside, is the visual rhythm. If anything, most of the film's technical shortcomings contribute to the absolute 2011 time capsule, DIY sort of feel that this film is just oozing with. It definitely leads to some unintended hilarious moments- like something out of a Kyle Moody Sketch.

While the film's editing definitely kept my attention- a lot of the middle of the film is spent meandering without a clear structure or evolving stakes, and the film begins to feel like a series of reflective moments rather than a complete story. There's a lot of setup and introspection, but the payoff never quite lands. You can sense the potential, but the thesis-about creating something that matters before it's too late- remains more aspirational than fulfilled. Which, maybe is sort of a lesson within itself.

That said, there are flashes of resonance. Vaughn's monologues about faith, aging, and creative failure are raw and relatable. The documentary has a unique sense of place, and its low-budget, handmade aesthetic adds to its honesty. But it's hard not to feel like Jersey Boy Hero needed a firmer editorial hand- someone to shape all that emotional raw material into a story that delivers the catharsis it hints at.
