In 1994, social worker Jane Leach is appointed to act as the "appropriate adult" for a Gloucester man - Fred West - when he is arrested on suspicion of murder by the police.
The police interrogations are over, and Fred West and his wife, Rose, are awaiting trial. While Fred refuses to cooperate with the police, he continues to correspond with social worker Janet Leach.
