Malu de Bicicleta

In São Paulo, the womanizer Luiz Mario (Marcelo Serrado) inherits an old building and decides to transform it in a night-club. Luiz Mario has one night stand and love affairs with the most different women and does not commit with anyone. When Luiz Mario has a problem with a former lover, his friends advise him to travel to Rio de Janeiro to rest in the Wonderful City.

In Ipanema, Luiz Mario stumbles with the cool Malu (Fernanda de Freitas) that is riding her bicycle and they have a love affair. They fall in love for each other and they move together to São Paulo, but Malu keeps her job in a hotel in Rio. The changing of Luiz Mario lifestyle turns his life upside-down and he is consumed by a destructive jealousy.

When Luiz Mario is visited by a man with nervous breakdown asking him to stop his affair with his wife, and Luiz Mario finds a novel with notes made by a lover in the Malu's belongings, he suspects that Malu is cheating on him. Meanwhile the City Hall fines his night-club and he has a business problem to resolve.

"Malu de Bicicleta" is a simple and surprisingly good Brazilian film about a man that does not know how to handle with his jealous and loses the love of his life. There is no explanation why the MCP Luiz Mario is so successful with women, but it is easy to understand why he falls for the gorgeous Fernanda de Freitas. Her character is very cool but the plot is ambiguous and there is no explanation about what is she doing in her long absences since the point is the sick behavior of Luiz Mario. My vote is seven.
