Based on the dark 1997 novel The Ax by Donald Westlake, this tense horror thriller spotlights a middle-aged man, Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), who spirals into moral darkness in a desperate struggle to support his family after losing his job at a paper company where he had worked for 25 years (via Deadline).

Mubi has landed distribution rights to Park Chan-wook’s upcoming dark comedy No Other Choice in multiple territories.

The company has secured all rights to South Korean feature in Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Benelux, Spain, Turkey, India, Australia, New Zealand, and Saarc. Cinéart will release the film theatrically in Benelux in collaboration with Mubi.

The deal was revealed just a day after Neon announced it had picked up rights for North America and ahead of a long-rumoured selection for Venice.

He is best known for penning the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, which has been adapted for the screen as HBO's Game of Thrones as well as the prequel spinoff House of the Dragon. Though its later seasons were poorly received, Game of Thrones remains one of the most beloved 21st century dramas, winning a total of 59 Emmy Awards over its eight-season run. Another spinoffcalled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is in the works and set for release sometime this year.

Not all of Martin adaptations are created equally, however. This year's In the Lost Lands adapts one of Martin's short stories, and is performing abysmally so far. In the Lost Lands received terrible reviews, getting a 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant's Alex Harrison gave the movie 2 out of 10 stars, cautioning "don't waste your time" to summarize his review.

Celebrated actress Nicole Kidman has expressed interest in exploring intense horror genres in future film projects. In a recent interview with L’Officiel USA magazine, the 57-year-old Oscar winner said she wants to take on more frightening roles. “I’ve not done classic horror yet. Hardcore horror,” Kidman stated. “I’m putting it out there, because I watch hardcore horror.”

Kidman is known for diverse performances in movies across different genres. She has starred in psychological thrillers like The Others and Stoker. However, she has yet to perform in mainstream horror films. The actress said she is a fan of director Ti West, who makes scary movies like X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. Kidman also wants to potentially work with Australian filmmaker James Wan, best known for horror films, on a terrifying project.

While Kidman has starred in big-budget superhero movies like Batman Forever and Aquaman, she said those decisions were not driven by money.

Acclaimed director Park Chan-wook has begun work on his latest movie, it’s been announced. Called I Can’t Help It, it’s based on The Ax – one of the later novels by prolific novelist Donald E Westlake.

Filming is due to begin this Saturday – the 17th August if you’re reading this in the future – and will star Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fred R. Krug, a producer, director and cinematographer who worked on such nature-focused TV programs as Animal World, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom and The Magical World of Disney, has died. He was 94.

Krug died June 4 of natural causes at his home in Solvang, California, his daughter, Vivian Krug-Cotton, told The Hollywood Reporter.

A pioneer in wildlife TV documentaries and travel shows, the Swiss-born Krug dined with Picasso, worked with The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl and danced with the Nicholas brothers.

He also collaborated with the likes of Gypsy Rose Lee, Louis Armstrong, Cornel Wilde, Jayne Mansfield, Dana Andrews, Jean Simmons, Agnes Moorehead, Art Linkletter and Tippi Hedren.

The actors who played the incarcerated brothers at the center of that beloved Fox drama are reuniting for what sounds like an equally tension-fueled series.

Variety is reporting today that the two stars -- who also appeared together in Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow -- are set to costar in Snatchback, a hostage recovery drama currently in development at Universal Television.

It'll be a family affair for Purcell, who's producing the series alongside his wife, Tish Cyrus-Purcell.

The series is based on the real-life experiences of an intelligence officer and his work in international hostage recovery.

It'll be helmed by showrunner Scott Rosenbaum, who is best known for his executive producer work on shows like The Shield and Chuck.

The “Prison Break” brothers are getting back together.

Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller are set as the stars of “Snatchback,” a series in development at Universal Television. Scott Rosenberg serves as writer and executive producer, while Purcell also executive produces via HopeTown Entertainment.

The official logline for “Snatchback” reads, “Inspired by the life of a real covert intelligence officer who is still active in the field today, the series follows a highly skilled privately contracted team of operatives as they recover hostages across the globe from some of the most exotic, and equally dangerous locations on the planet.”

Purcell and Miller led Fox’s “Prison Break” as brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield for four seasons from 2006 to 2009 followed by “The Final Break,” a TV movie that concluded the series before a revival was ordered; Season 5 aired on Fox in 2017. Lionsgate Television is partnering with renowned filmmaker Park Chan-wook to develop his acclaimed film Oldboy for television, marking the first English-language series adaptation of the iconic property. This comes as Park’s The Sympathizer just debuted on HBO.

Park Chan-wook, who of course directed and co-wrote the original South Korean film, is attached to produce the upcoming “Oldboy” TV series along with producing partner Syd Lim.

The 2003 feature is an adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name written by Garon Tsuchiya. It follows Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), a man taken off the streets and imprisoned for 15 years who is one day released and given 5 days to find his captor.

Oldboy is the second title in Park’s Vengeance trilogy, following Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and preceding Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005). It earned multiple accolades including the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2004, a first for a South Korean film. Spike Lee remade the film in 2013 with Josh Brolin portraying the lead character, Joe Doucett.

Korean auteur Park Chan-wook is set to adapt his 2003 masterpiece “Oldboy” as an English-language TV series alongside Lionsgate Television, the studio announced on Wednesday, April 17.

Park, who directed and co-wrote the original action mystery film, is attached to produce the “Oldboy” series adaptation alongside his producing partner Syd Lim.

Park is fresh off “The Sympathizer,” his limited series starring Robert Downey Jr. that just debuted on HBO this past weekend. And while it’s not the first English-language remake of “Oldboy” following Spike Lee’s 2013 film starring Josh Brolin, it will be the first time the film will be adapted for the small screen.

Vampires have been part of the popular imagination for centuries. The macabre folklore came from supposedly real reports of blood-sucking corpses attacking the people of small Serbian villages in the early 18th Century. Later historians, philosophers and scientists have explained the phenomenon in hindsight as paranoia and ignorance of medical notions accepted today. Meanwhile, literature and other forms of art have eternalized the mythical creature as a staple of the horror genre.

Bram Stoker wasn't the first writer to explore the concept, but the characters introduced in his 1897 horror novel Dracula have made such an impact they're still around. At the same time, the best-known vampire movies inspired by the book have only highlighted specific aspects and to varying degrees of accuracy. Horrors like Tod Browning's Dracula were loosely based on it, while comedy movies like the animation Hotel Transylvania only took certain elements.

From the three Korean filmmakers that first made the step towards Hollywood, Park Chan-wook with “Stoker”, Kim Jee-woon with “The Last Stand”, and Bong Joon-ho with “Snowpiercer”, the first one was the most controversial film among the critics, since others considered it a masterpiece and others leveled it lower than Park's South Korean productions. Evidently, Park's English debut has some issues, as the South Korean did not adapt fully to Hollywood aesthetics, but “Stoker” remains a very competent film, while the things Park learned from its shooting definitely helped him change his style for the better in “The Handmaiden”
