Touchback may accurately be called cornball hokum by some, but it's nevertheless a well-made film filled with heart and soul (and Snake Plissken).

What ultimately waters down a movie like Touchback, aside from a really sappy ending, is that we know the answers going in.

Entering the minor canon of movies named after sports regulations - move over, "Offside!" - Don Handfield's Touchback takes a handoff from "Peggy Sue Got Married" and "It's A Wonderful Life" and runs it up the middle for a modest gain.

This handsomely produced but ponderously uplifting trifle should be flagged for excessive schmaltz and offensive illogic.
