Does not feel like a one piece movie

I had a great time!

I'm not caught up with One Piece by any means, but that didn't keep me from enjoying this film! The animation and effects are visually very appealing. The songs were tacky at the worst, and while the plot was pretty predictable, just going with the flow of the movie allowed me to enjoy the antics. I'm not sure how this plays into canon (if it IS canon), but Uta is decently complex and stunningly over-powered. I loved seeing the extent of her devil fruit powers, and her dynamic with Luffy was entertaining, too. Besides the crowd being a bit rowdy, I had no serious gripes with this movie. A fun watch, and if you're dedicated to the franchise, probably a lot to discuss too.

What a beautiful mess!

This one got me emotional, to be honest.

Uta, the antagonist, is just endearing. I'm pretty skeptic whenever a VG or anime universe features their "world's greatest pop star," but I really enjoyed the songs and the animation that went with them! Watching this hyper-optimistic diva slowly darken was gorgeously tragic, and I think it gave Luffy's journey an added richness.

But that said, it's far from perfect. The character cameos are so relentless that they blunt the impact. It's not really remarkable that REDACTED is there, because everybody else in the series seems to be crammed in there along with them! The fight animations are intense, and yes, the animation is very good! But because of the size of the character roster, the fights start to get unintelligible. And personally, I balked at my screen more than once as the various character motivations are revealed. Not everything seems to add up.

It is a beautiful film, but it's also a total mess. Which, if you love One Piece like I do, may be the flavor you're after.

Cool songs, amazing fight scenes, but a few problems

Cool songs and a few amazing fight scenes, but unfortunately a letdown on some parts. I love One Piece so much but I'm not gonna lie, I almost fell asleep in the middle of the movie simply because too many effects were used in the battle scene and it got pretty repetitive that I lost all focus and got too bored. It's also a big shame that recent One Piece movies had become a series of cameo fest instead of a good adventure movie with just the straw hats. I know it's interesting to see old characters coming back, but too many of them randomly showing up makes it look like they were there just for show. I believe One Piece movies are mostly non-canon, but I think a sense of believability is still needed to make them enjoyable and this movie simply offered no canon continuity or believable value (in the perspective of a long-running series with its own universe). Although, as a spectacle, this movie was enjoyable and a fun watch in general, filled with classic One Piece humour, and it surely is always nice to see the straw hats together!

Finally got to watch it

I'm a huge one piece fans but most of their movies are lackluster for me. Including this one and the previous one.

It was nice watching many characters teaming up and showing their personalities. The comedies are there and the songs are nice. Ado is amazing and the songs are catchy. The lyrics are pretty good too.

Unfortunately the story is just lackluster and the part where they were all fighting the big boss were just colour and nonsense. You don't feel power from it or much hype (except the end with shanks and luffy).

Feel like it could be better tonally and emotionally. Think it was marketed as shanks movie but it didnt feel like that. They still have to keep shanks secretly I guess... even in the manga shanks is still kinda a side characters with probably the most secrets.

Anyway I love luffy and the bear is so cute. Kuma chan Im a fan.

Nice

Movies about one of the longest running and still unfinished anime we have out there. Not being very knowledgeable about either the comic series or the cartoon series I cannot say if this film is accurate in terms of coherence and continuity with the general plot and for this I will limit myself to judging the film for what it is. So overall the film is very colorful and full of life but it's still a bit boring, there are several points that in my opinion are too drawn out and too long to keep the viewer's attention, having said that though overall the film is watchable It is funny. So in conclusion the movie is good.

A movie about a Japanese idol with Sing Sing fruit has songs? (SHOCKING)

Of course it will have songs, and I personally loved it. It was different from conventional shonen meathead action. The story felt canon, although I doubt it is canon. It also revealed a lot of information on Shanks which is basically the second main driving force of the movie. Uta was a great new character added to the movie and scenes with her and luffy were always amazing. My personal favourite character from the movie was definitely BEPO and all the Shanks crewmembers. They were all great!

Overall, it had a good message, good action and great moments. The first half is kind of slow which was the only drawback in my opinion.

Weakest entrant in One Piece filmography

I don't wanna admit but yes One Piece Red was not the best part in One Piece movies. The story was not solid, and even though I knew it was about Uta and Shanks and music, there was too much songs filled in the movie.

Yeah, I liked the last 15-20 mins with all the action, and also watching couple of my likeable characters (Katakuri) coming back to screen. Apart from that, the first half was not much interesting. Can say, that One Piece Red is a one time watch, although they have done good job with the animation and OST.

Story : 5/10 Animation : 7/10 Characters : 6/10

My Final Rating : 6/10.

It's not that good (boring)

I watched the whole movie and honestly the plot was really boring , fights felt REALLY overused and the twist was good but rather vauge? , the movie also feels like it's a musical rather than actual one piece movie. The effects and fights were pushed to almost extreme limits were instead of exciting it was boring and overused. I honestly expected a lot from it but it just wasn't it . I love the singer and songs but overall the movie isn't really it, it's not that good.

Idk honestly if i like the character uta as she's kind of too annoying to be ""likeable"" and ""appealing"" in this whole movie but i guess the creators intended it.

Could've been better

One Piece is an amazing TV anime and one I've been watching for more then a decade. So I was make sure to tune into their movies. While this movie was far from their best, I still enjoyed certain aspects. If you tune in to watch a bunch of fighting (which most fans would've seeing as it is a battle shonen) then the movie is not good. Personally, I thought the musical + battle arrangement was innovative, of course it could've been better but the overall story was able to entertain for the duration (until the last part). I personally found the ending a mix of being extremely cool and extremely cringy, Shanks and his crew can't actually show their power because spoilers so it felt a bit awkward, and the choreography is nothing compared to Stampede. The music and animation was great, but Uta felt annoying, its a waste seeing as I thought she could've been the best movie only character. Overall, fun movie but would not satisfy most fans, particularly those who expect the usual style of One Piece movie.

Not a One Piece movie and more a movie about One Piece

The purpose of this message is to temper expectations and to reduce disappointment, so that the viewer can enjoy the movie for what it is.

I think this movie is not really a One Piece movie: it does not capture what the manga or TV series is about or their spirit, and does not capture what makes them good or what people read and watch them for. It makes mistakes in areas that the series excels in and does things that are unprecedented in the series. It is instead a movie about One Piece, or a One Piece themed movie. I think you should see it as a 'fan made movie' or perhaps a 'fan service movie' or a film maker's (who is not Eiichiro Oda) original take on One Piece.

Since the movie is for 'fans' of One Piece and since it is not a 'One Piece quality' movie, I think generally speaking people unfamiliar with One Piece should not watch this movie.

I think the movie is still worth watching for those interested in the movie. What I found enjoyable in the movie are the very fantastic and beautiful songs and accompanying visuals in the movie, the original ideas or the original take on a One Piece movie, and the interesting and powerful set up or start. I would have rated this movie an 8 if the marketing surrounding this movie didn't present it as anywhere near canon or authentic.

Expect cringe AND enjoyment (at the same time). This is a movie you do not want to be canon in any way, because the way familiar characters act in this movie sometimes appears unrealistic or at least questionable. Perhaps the right expectation is to expect a nonsensical spectacle, because my constant cringing in the second half of the movie did lessen my enjoyment quite a lot. If I knew in advance that this movie was not to be taken seriously, I would have been more mentally prepared for this movie.

To give you an impression of what kind of person I am, these are some series I have rated highly in the past: 'The Sandman', 'Violet Evergarden', 'Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song ', 'Great Pretender', 'Messiah', 'The OA', 'Sense8', 'Beastars', 'Dark', and the movies 'Interstellar' and 'Arrival'.

Pure Action

This movie is a masterpiece. The songs are very very good and I already have some of those on my Spotify playlist. Half of the movie is action and like I said the music is very fun. It's definitely a movie you should watch in cinemas. It's kind of dark sometimes. The story is a bit deep and I love it. Very good movie! And it has some very funny parts and very good camera work, it has nice camera shots too. And the whole atmosphere and graphics are amazing. I never watched the anime/show from one piece but I loved the characters. They are badass, funny, cool just masterpiece. The whole film!!!!

a worthy 25 Years special

First of a the Setting is a pop konzert therefore music is a huge part of the Film but every single song is absolutly beautiful and many will find the way in my playlist.

As for the characters many fan favorites will make and appearance and you will see combinations you didn't imagine you get, but ohhhh boy you now totally need. The only sad part is that you can only put so much in 2 hours and therefore most characters have only a very limited screentime.

The animations are from the beginning to the end absolutly stunning and very well made even through at the end it feels like the animators had finally the time and money to get every drop of their creativity into the animations and have gone a little bit over the top.

Nonetheless I personally really enjoyed the movie, it really shows what one piece is all about about: Freedom and Joy

It feels like it is a movie from fans for fans and even if its not your classic aniume movie, I would really recommend watching it to everyone who likes one piece.

it wasn't good, but it was still good if you are a big fan

Let's be real: it wasn't good, there were good things about it but mostly it was just a mediocre and sometimes bad things

1.there was a large amount of cg, when uta is performing her movement is mostly similar to vocaloid mmd/concert tech. Whenever it camera isn't close enough to have it be overly noticable it will switch to cg. Lots of scenes of large movement was cg. Though it makes sense because of the reclining animators, but credit to them because some of the fight scenes were animated beautifully.

2. the story writing is questionable at best, it wasn't exception, it was a typical shounen movie plot - some world ending thing happens but it is resolved by the power of friendship and love because its technically not canon and the characters have to be alive - and some parts don't make a lot of sense. Many things were thrown in to make sense. The whole tot musica thing was made for the movie. It was another one of those overpowered things that could possibly end the world! Oh no! Well here comes the main character to save the day! And here the movie ends, and now you all paid money to see a mediocrely written plot of your favorite anime.

Overall there is also things like severe fan service, like things happening so that it could be a good marketing placement, oppertunities for merch, etc.

But despite these, there are good things about it too, especially when you are a big fan, things like shanks showing up, the fights were extremely hype and so many throwbacks to the anime itself. These are all things that you can probably only enjoy if you are a big fan. Things like the red hair crew and the mugiwara's fighting basically alongside each other, shanks showing up.

There's also the music, the music is absolutely beautiful, the vocal artist ado, who's been blowing up in japan in recent years with her voice. As someone who had listened to her for a while i was super happy that she was featured in the film. And if you like the music in the movie definitely listen to the full songs and just ado in general. The movie uses its music extremely well, the songwriting and placement was beautiful.

One of the songs, backlight, was featured in the movie - the animation that went with it, the scence itself, were so impactful and ado had so many amazing vocal cues in it. If you've listened some of her more popular songs you can see her style. I'm glad the directors let her have a song that fit her so well. It gives me goosebumps everytime.

This movie made me cry, not because it was bad just because no matter what cry bait you throw into the movie, oda still has the skill to make you care about the characters and be sad about them, the voice acting was as usual, amazing. Kaori nazuka (who also played nunnally in code geass and a lot of roles, check her out) blew it out of the park with some of the scenes. All the other characters also did amazing. The emotion of the characters and some of the animation was so clear and so effective you can't help to just be sad.

In all, it wasn't that good, it's another piece of content that is used to make more money. But if you are a one piece fan, watch it, look past some things and its still amazing.

Meaningless CGIFest

Luffy doesn't say "Gomu gomu no.." even once. The story is pathetic. Uta is so unappealing as a character. The songs sound like they have been made up in 10 minutes each. The CGI is god awful. The dialogue is so fast paced and not memorable. The fighting is unacceptable for One Piece standards. Same formula from the Stampede movie is used: Bring all the characters in one island and give all of them their signature one liners.

Don't try to put this garbage into the regular One Piece timeline. Think of it as a fan side-movie that has nothing to do with the story. I really hope they come up with something more creative next time.

5 points for the lighting during the songs. That was a feast to the eye.

Entertaining, but has issues.

Yeah it's getting bashed alot. Not entirely without reason but still...there's issues here.

Yes, musical numbers run throughout the entire film. To me, since they weren't all really fowarding the story, they became sort of awkward. Not to bash the actual singing tho, it's really great. We coud've used less of them in my opinion.

80% of the people went to see this movie because of Shanks. Please do not go in with such expectations. He is in it, but barely. I'm not one of those people, I just really love One Piece.

The animation is excellent obviously. The direction is nice.

Overall...6/10. I didn't entirely work, but was entertaining.

The best One Piece Movie

The story is good, normal people can enjoy it, not just fans, and there are some of good tearjerking scene, though not as good as when Going Merry sank

The songs by Ado and the UTA singing scene are epic, and the feels you get when you watch it, it was so damn good I've search and added all the songs to my spotify playlist.

The battle scene are all epic, and talk a lot about their characters, especially those who rarely shown in Manga and Anime

All in all, the movie is a very good One Piece Movie where it focus on a backstory, and makes you love the character, for me this is the best One Piece Movie so far, because you actually feels the story, not just come and see Luffy punch the hell out of the enemy. It's boring

Ignore those who rate this Movie is bad, just because

  • They felt oda mislead them to see it for shanks power, where in the movie Shanks did shows some of his power though not all of them, cmon, the even in the manga Shanks is a very mysterious character, and you think Oda will shows it in Movie, when the manga itself haven't got to that part?

  • The angry fans because the movie shows a lot of singing scene, i mean cmon, the trailer already shows that the new character is a SINGER, the stage is a LIVE CONCERT, even all the synopsis says so, how come you can't even expect the movie will contain a lot of singing scene? Think a bit before talk.
