Actor Jason Statham is no stranger to starring in movies that put his characters into perilous situations. In 2018, Statham led a creature feature that drew comparisons to Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film, Jaws.

Michael B. Jordan first broke out on television with his role as Wallace in the inaugural season of HBO's highly acclaimed drama, The Wire (2002). He subsequently appeared as a series regular on the ABC soap opera All My Children (2003–2006) and later delivered a standout performance in the NBC sports drama Friday Night Lights (2009–2011).
In the past decade, Jordan has become best known for his collaborations with writer-director Ryan Coogler – including Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Sinners (2025) – all of which earned him critical acclaim. He returned to his titular role in Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023), the latter marking his directorial debut.
Jordan's broader filmography also includes roles in Chronicle (2012), That Awkward Moment (2014), Fantastic Four (2015), and Just Mercy (2019), in which he played civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson. However, it's Jordan's dystopian movie, adapted from an acclaimed book, that is seeing a resurgence on streaming, seven years after its initial release.

Romantic comedies hold a special place in the hearts of hopeless romantics, true lovers, and those who simply enjoy seeing love onscreen. Even though the characters in these films aren't real, the storylines they're playing out include real elements and situations that audiences recognize. Jack Nicholson's son, Ray Nicholson, joined the romcom tradition with 2024's I Love You Forever alongside Sofia Black-d'Elia, and now it's steadily rising on HBO Max's list of most popular titles.
The film, written and directed by Cazzie David (comedian Larry David's daughter) and Elisa Kalani, follows Nicholson as Finn, a charming and manipulative broadcast journalist who thrives on being in control. Opposite Nicholson, Black-d'Elia plays a young law student, Mackenzie, whose love life is anything but romantic. The Rotten Tomatoes synopsis reads:

Matt Damon is one of the most bankable stars and highest-grossing actors of all time. He rose to stardom in 1997 with Good Will Hunting, a film he co-wrote and starred in alongside his lifelong friend Ben Affleck. Their work earned them an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, while Damon was also nominated for Best Actor, launching him into Hollywood's firmament.
From there, Damon quickly became a leading man with standout roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley, the Jason Bourne series, and Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy. He earned additional Oscar nominations for Invictus and The Martian. He's also starred in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, Martin Scorsese's The Departed, and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, the last of which is Damon's highest-grossing film to date at $975 million.

An overlooked comedy movie, boasting a strong Rotten Tomatoes score, has become a streaming hit. The genre has been unpredictable, but in recent years, Anyone But Youmanaged to excite rom-com fans and generate over $220 million, while A Real Pain earned multiple Academy Award nominations.
Among several comedy releases from last year, Dìdi and Problemista garnered praise from audiences, maintaining Tomatometer scores of 95% and 86%, respectively. The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, also performed well critically, despite an underwhelming box office.
This year has produced some highly enjoyable and surprisingly successful comedy movies, notably Novocaine and The Materialists. However, an acclaimed comedy drama, The Ballad of Wallis Island, starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden and holding an impressive 97% Tomatometer, seemingly went unnoticed.

Ah yes, dating in 2025, where love is technically a swipe away, but the effort is buried somewhere beneath Spotify playlists and half-hearted good mornings. Everyone’s emotionally available on their bio, but in real life, you’re probably just another situationship away from losing your sanity. One minute you’re deep in late-night convos and curated Reels, the next you’re Instagram-stalking someone who said they ‘weren’t ready for anything serious,’ and then they pop up in a soft launch two weeks later. But hey, at least your screen time’s through the roof. And sure, let’s all talk more about how the timing is the problem. Anyway, coming to the point, the real issue is you’re likely to catch feelings for someone who shows even the bare minimum interest. And yeah, that’s a dark little rabbit hole too. Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani’s...

Exclusive: Peter Berg’s next film looks to be in a full-on sprint towards production as sources tell Deadline that Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis are set to star in the director’s next film The Mosquito Bowl for Netflix. They join Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård in the pic, which falls under Berg’s deal with the studio that he recently reupped.
Based on Buzz Bissinger’s New York Times bestseller The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the film is set after the attack on Pearl Harbor, when four of America’s top college football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history – a game that, for many, will be the last they ever play.

I Love You Forever gets ugly fast in a vapid and nearly unwatchable journey of a toxic relationship's painfully predictable unraveling. Romance isn't on the menu as low self-esteem, psychological abuse, and trauma bonding battle for screen time in a cringe-worthy satire of Gen Z dating malaise. There might have been a sliver of connection in the awful dialogue if any of the characters had even a drop of chemistry. None exists where a sawdust dry cast feels mismatched from the start.
Law student Mackenzie (Sofia Black-d'Elia) prepares to get amorous with her truly despicable friend with benefits. Jake (Raymond Cham Jr.) has been Mackenzie's go-to hookup and couldn't care less about her except for the easy sex. Their opening conversation is particularly revolting and frames Mackenzie's personal woes. She's desperate for affection and doesn't believe anyone can truly love her.

Through their journey, writer-director duo Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani take a shot at the perceived notions of love, romance, and companionship.

Forget romcoms – this year sees new releases focusing on gore, toxic relationships and android romances
It’s mid-February, which means love is in the air, elaborate dates are being planned and couples are flocking to multiplexes, perhaps hoping to see a much-advertised new romantic entanglement from the lovably yearning singleton Bridget Jones. They won’t actually find her there, though; in the United States, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is only playing on Peacock. In US movie theaters, the date crowd can find plenty of Valentine’s Day-themed entertainment, but they’ll have to steel themselves for the sight of reds and pinks that aren’t strictly decorative.
This year’s gory holiday-adjacent offerings including the Valentine’s-set Love Hurts, in which a seemingly mild-mannered realtor reconnects with a lost love and they are violently confronted with all the people who want both of them dead; the Valentine’s-set Heart Eyes,...

Ray Nicholson, with his signature inherited grin, has already gone viral for playing unhinged beaus in “Smile 2” and “I Love You Forever.” Now, Nicholson is getting into “King of Comedy” territory with the “violently romantic comedy” thriller, “Borderline.”
The ’90s-set feature, which is “Cocaine Bear” scribe Jimmy Warden’s highly-anticipated directorial debut, is led by Samara Weaving, who plays a pop star stalked by Nicholson’s deranged character. Eric Dane is cast as Weaving’s bodyguard and only hope of escaping the contrived wedding planned by her obsessed fan. Alba Batista and Jimmie Fails also star.
The official synopsis reads: “‘Borderline’ is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that follows a dangerously persistent stalker (Nicholson) who invades the home of a ‘90s pop superstar (Weaving) with grand delusions of a wedding. With her life on the line and help from her loyal bodyguard, she must escape the stalker’s sinister grip before they tie the knot.

For Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani's anti RomCom, I Love You Forever, the key art is all about the blank white wall. I know I have been going on for some time about the death of movie credit blocks on posters, but here we have a nice twist on putting it at the top of the poster in a justified-spacing block. Very satisfying. The blank space also lets the plain chunky title of the film stand out, above the mid-point of the one-sheet. Below that, a figurative field of ever so slightly desaturated pink daisies, tied up with white bows of surrender (or peace?) and the lead character looking annoyed (or bored?) Sofia Black-d'Elia stares directly at the viewer in a kind of vague, whatever, non-challenging...

"A fresh take on a toxic relationship." Utopia has unveiled an official trailer for an indie film titled I Love You Forever, marking the feature directorial debut of two filmmakers Cazzie David & Elisa Kalani - who both wrote and directed this together. When she finally has a "real life meet-cute" with Finn, a handsome and charming journalist who isn't afraid to show affection, she starts to believe true love may actually exist. No one would call Larry David a catchphrase comic. And yet, the prolific comedic mind behind Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm certainly has a way with words that get stuck in your head.
Through 12 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David has authored many a meme-able phrase. Who among us hasn’t said “pretttay pretttaaaaay good” or “you don’t respect wood!” at one point or another? In the Curb series finale, however, Larry opts for some nonverbal communication instead … with predictably disastrous results.
As he vainly tries to garner some sympathy with the jury who will decide his fate, Larry has an undercover Susie Greene (Susie Essman) pose as his sickly girlfriend who Larry rescued from disaster. When that ploy fails, Larry opts for something simpler: he attempts to make a heart sign with his hands. We say “attempts to” because it’s clear that every muscle and tendon...

When that ploy fails, Larry opts for something simpler: he attempts to make a heart sign with his hands. We say “attempts to” because it’s clear that every muscle and tendon...

Cazzie David Is Glad Her Feature Directing Debut Won’t ‘Resonate’ with Most People: That’s the Point
Cazzie David may have grown up in the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to give audiences what they want.
The “Umbrella Academy” actress, author of essay collection “No One Asked For This,” and daughter of Larry David opted to make her feature debut with SXSW-selected anti-rom-com “I Love You Forever.” David co-wrote and co-directed the subversive dramedy with “Eighty-Sixed” web series collaborator Elisa Kalani. Oh, and did we mention David also has a supporting role in the film?
“I Love You Forever” stars “Single Drunk Female” breakout Sofia Black-d’Elia as law student Mackenzie, whose lackluster love life is resurrected after a meet-cute with charming broadcast journalist Finn (Ray Nicholson). Yet Finn’s charisma and well-timed vulnerable admissions point to a more sinister game at play, and Mackenzie soon finds herself in a year-long toxic relationship solely framed by Finn’s narcissistic abuse.
It’s difficult to...

Director Quentin Tarantino has left an indelible mark on cinema with a selection of classic films from Reservoir Dogs to his most recent project, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. His Oscar-winning 1994 crime thriller Pulp Fiction, however, is often lauded as one of the greatest features ever made, taking a non-chronological approach to the intertwining, violent stories of two hitmen, a crime boss, his wife, and a boxer, among others in Los Angeles. Now, Cazzie David and Jon Rudnitsky are planning a heist of the iconic film with the bizarre upcoming film Stealing Pulp Fiction. While at SXSW for the premiere of David's feature debut, I Love You Forever, which she co-wrote and co-directed with Elisa Kalani, Collider's Perri Nemiroff asked the pair what they could tease about the intriguing title.

“I Love You Forever” has all the trappings of a romantic comedy, for better or worse. In the whipsmart millennial-skewing film where you’re old if you’ve been caught using a third-generation iPhone, there’s something charmingly antiquated about the scene filmmakers Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani set around Mackenzie (Sofia Black D’Elia), a law student who has a pair of bickering best friends (Jon Rudnitsky and Cazzie David) to constantly amuse her and a personal life punctuated by Jessica Simpson and Michelle Branch needle drops. Such retro touches aside, their subversive spin on the genre doesn’t seem as if it could’ve been made any earlier than 2024, amid talk that emotional manipulation in a relationship can be every bit as pernicious as physical abuse, as Mackenzie experiences when she falls for the wrong guy.
For previous generations, the wrong guy was more likely to resemble Mark Wahlberg in “Fear,...

There comes a time in every heterosexual woman or queer man’s life where we have to wonder: What is it about men that is at once so despicable and so alluring?
There are statistically more male serial killers, more male sociopaths, and — let’s be real — more male assholes than there are female counterparts. That’s just scientific fact. Sure, you can click on the hyperlinks, but do you really need to read a Psychology Today post between looking at this review and scrolling through the dating apps?
But the foundation of heteronormative rom-coms goes as follows: Girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl changes herself slightly for boy, and boy proposes. The end, happily ever after, everyone is great and good. Yeah, if you’re currently dating (or have been on dates at all in the 21st century), you know that’s not how it works, especially when situationships,...

In honor of International Women’s Day, IndieWire is pleased to share its annual female filmmakers to watch list featuring a rising assortment of women writers and directors with some of the biggest projects of the year.
On the big screen, Theda Hammel’s Sundance breakout “Stress Positions” went on to become a leading title on this year’s New Directors/New Films lineup and is set to close out the festival. Alessandra Lacorazza’s “In the Summers” won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance, and also earned Lacorazza the Directing prize. Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani co-wrote and co-directed SXSW selected film “I Love You Forever,” which is produced by Diablo Cody.
While David also co-stars in the film, another actress makes her directorial debut with a similarly sinister premiere: Anna Kendrick directs and stars in “Woman of the Hour” based on the haunting true story of the “Dating Game” killer.

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.
