First of all, hats of to "Renjith & Crew" for this excellent masterpiece....
As i heard that Renjith is making the film, i read the novel... To tell the truth, I didn't think anyone could make the novel a decent movie... the novel was basically so complex... but on seeing the film i changed my opinion.. though it misses out on several aspect of the novel, i really liked the movie...
The casting was so perfect that no one will feel that the majority of the cast were fresh faces.
Mammootty is like wine that get better and better with age.. not only for his acting, but also his choice of roles.
There were some memorable scenes like the one shot in which Manikyam is both seen entering and leaving (as a corpse) Paleri... And the other memorable scene is when Keshavan says To Haridas that he is just a barber
The whole film revolves around one character and that is Ahamed Haji. The real beauty of the film is that Ahamed Haji has got only 5-6 scenes. His character is actually developed through the others voices..
But the one scene that really misses out from the novel is the scene in which Ahammed Haji asks the barber to cut his pubic hair. It would be better if Renjith included that scene in the movie...
Also i don't like the third Mammootty role...it would be better if that role is just mentioned and not really shown..
There was some differences from the novel though that are quite acceptable...
Anyway, this is the best Work of Renjith till date!!!

One thing I am damn sure is,there has never been a film like this one and there won't be any like this in future, it is a unique masterpiece.all praises to Renjith and Mammotty.I think this is both of their bloody best till date. I am not a Mammotty fan.But I loved him in this one.He is exceptional as villain and his powerful looks gives the extra perfection for the film.60% chance for him to win 2009 national award. Real kudos to Renjith because the script is the best I have ever experienced in a Malayalam film.this will be a directorial milestone for him.90% chance for him to win all the awards that this film would compete in. A special mention should be given to the dailogues as they were natural, powerful and really good. Miss anything, but not this film.
I see the high rating but it was boring.
Story telling from multiple perspective but it was just too boring to keep up, the acting was just OK, little lame. I don't know how many times I've yawned through the film. Kept giving more chances and patiently waiting to see if it ever get a bit more interesting but didn't. Had to call it quit
This is one of the best-made movies from Mollywood. I remember people discussing about this movie back in 2010. The lead characters also went on to win many awards for their acting.
The director takes us back to the 1950s, and we become completely absorbed into the story. I got a strong storytelling vibe reminiscent of O. V. Vijayan's novel 'Khasakkinte Itihasam' while watching this movie. All credit goes to Renjith and T. P. Rajeevan.
Mammooty is a living legend of Malayalam cinema and even in 2023 he can rock theaters that's what we are seeing just now, his movie Kannur Squad has already entered the 50 crore club. If you want to witness the legendary actor's finest acting skill, just watch Paleri Manikyam and you won't be disappointed. He plays three roles in this movie.
There is no need to mention director Ranjith's directing skills. He is a legend in his field. If you are interested in movies like this then definitely watch 'Njaan' starring Dulquer Salman, directed by the very same Renjith.
