A sci-fi thriller with truncated ambitions

"Black Bits," directed by Alessio Liguori, promises an engaging adventure within a sci-fi thriller that mixes elements of horror and action movies. However, the final outcome proves to be disappointing, leaving the viewer with a sense of dissatisfaction and lack of engagement. The film opens with an intriguing premise: two women, Beth and Dora, meet casually in a bar and end up pulling off a heist against a mysterious Dark Web society, obtaining valuable next-generation neurochips. However, the screenplay choices appear rushed, and the editing does not always support the narrative, lacking depth in character development. The plot tries to create an atmosphere of tension and mystery, with continuous flashbacks recalling the protagonists' first encounter in the bar. However, the narrative thread gets lost in a series of clichés and predictable situations, depriving the film of the freshness and originality one would expect from a thriller of this kind. One of the weaknesses of the film lies in the characterization of the characters, who appear two-dimensional and underdeveloped. The two protagonists, despite their potential, fail to convey to the audience the sense of empathy and involvement necessary to make the story compelling. Furthermore, the introduction of a mysterious character, Hank, seems more forced than a well-integrated narrative element, contributing to the overall confusion of the plot. Alessio Liguori's direction shows some moments of skill in creating suspense and atmosphere, but it is compromised by an inconsistent screenplay and questionable editing choices. The tension that should permeate the film dissipates quickly, leaving the viewer with the feeling of being dragged into an unconvincing and unengaging story. Despite some interesting insights and well-executed sequences, "Black Bits" fails to fully realize its potential, remaining stuck in a narrative limbo that neither excites nor engages. While the film may satisfy genre fans for an occasional viewing, it lacks the depth and cohesion necessary to leave a lasting impression.

Funded by the EU. Powered by Disappointment.

The film started with a bang - a chase, gunfire, adrenaline... for a moment I thought I'd stumbled upon a hidden gem. Unfortunately, after those few minutes of excitement, all I was left with was bitter disappointment. The action slows down so much that even an overweight snail could outrun it. The plot? It seems to exist only to give the actors an excuse to recite wooden lines with expressions like they're mourning a dead cat.

The acting is on the level of an audition for a toothpaste commercial - only less convincing. The music? It sounds like someone accidentally pressed a few keys on a synthesizer and decided that was enough for a soundtrack. But don't worry, it all makes sense - the film was co-financed by the European Union. That explains everything. Sometimes I feel like the EU has a secret program to sabotage European cinema from within.

If you enjoy films where time stands still, actors pretend to act, and the sound hurts your ears - then bingo, this one's for you. As for me, I wasted an evening and half a bag of popcorn.
