Not as expected ending

I enjoyed first part of this series . It's good and enjoyable but i don't know what's wrong with the story at the end. Slightly disappointed tbh. I was rooting ao hard for Them and the story progressed like that but ending is so much disappointing.

The writing tricks u to think now they will be fine but even in the last ten seconds of series nothing will be fine and it will throw u with not even a well cliffhanger.

What is success ?

This short series is based on a manga and tells the stories of a group of ladies living at the top of a high rise who all enter into affairs. It has a main story running through of a successful businesswoman and a goldfish seller and these two appear in a thread throughout the series. Over the eight episodes it also looks at five other women who enter into extra marital relationships and their reasons behind that decision. It is quite an erotic series and it may overdo the titillating sex scenes but it does not judge the women and leaves you to decide if the ladies actions are justified.

Goldfish and Life

It's a good movie pulling all the right strings that keep you engaged. It's erotic but it has a lot of sensible, heartfelt drama to offer. While it revolves on Sakura and Haruto, the stories of other women living in that high-rise condo are fascinating, too.

Rhiko Shinohara shines as Sakura. The character playing Haruto succeeds in making him too good to be true. Is he for real? So cool and so mature.

Women don't have to live in a fishbowl because they can decide to be free and be what they dream to be with determination despite the odds.

An interesting viewpoint on infidelity

The series focuses on 6 wives, with the major focus on Sakura i.e our main character for the series. They are all caught up in their own marriage related problems and seek other people to fulfil their desires or deal with their problems. It was honestly a refreshing take, since it was up to the viewer to decide whether the actions of the wife in focus was justified or not. Honestly i really enjoyed the aesthetic of the series and the multiple storylines were sown together well. However, some of the characters extremely pissed me off- Sakura's husband and the wife who stopped running. They made the show slightly intolerable but the other characters made it bearable. THe ending was also left very open ended which could be a bad or good thing based on the viewer discretion. Personally loved how it ended. Definitely a worthwhile show.

Ending destroys the whole series

I really enjoyed this series... until the last episode.

The series revolves around the relationships of some couples living in a high rise condo, focusing mainly on a single wife per episode.

Most of the episodes offer poignant, if sometime predictable, stories. The biggest problem I had with the individual episodes was that the writers failed to "wrap things up" before moving on to the next one.

Interwoven through all this is the story of Sakura, who is in an abusive marriage and trying to find happiness away from her husband. Unfortunately, the writers lead you on, and then gut punch you in the final episode with one of the worst endings I've ever watched. Disappointing hardly covers it.

It seems to be a trend in recent series that writers want to give you the worst ending possible.

Alternate end for Last Cinderella?

In Last Cinderella (2013) Ryoko Shinohara stars as Sakura, a hairdresser who is torn between the salon manager and a guy, Hiroto, half her age. In Fishbowl Wives (2022) Ryoko Shinohara stars as Sakura, a former hairdresser who is married to a salon chain owner, but has an affair with a guy, Haruto, half her age. Coincidence? Seems implausible. My interpretation is that FW is an alternate universe continuation of LC in which Sakura had chosen her boss over the young pup, and this is her second chance to get it right. Too bad FW is nowhere near as entertaining as LC. It's impressive how little Shinohara has aged, though.

Not Good Enough

Japanese Drama "Fishbowl Wives" is a drama about toxic relationships, and wives that are facing various marital problems.

The story starts with the introduction of the main lead and her seemingly perfect life. Things are rushed to have her running away, which was the highlight of the drama. However, she stayed in that avoiding reality phase for the whole drama, until the most cliche thing happened and she had finally to face her problems. The ending was realistic, on that note, and it was probably what fitted the story the best. However, the love story was bleak and boring after a while of not having anything happening.

On the other hand, the short stories that were added on the main one were pretty interesting and some of them often stole the thunder from the actual story.

Finally, the cinematography was pretty, especially the posters for the drama, and the performances were excellent.

So, overall, 4 out of 10.

Your 1st Drama?

If this is your 1st drama. Then you will probably like this more than most people. In which case, I would recommend to watch the kdrama movie called-High Society 2018 (Sanglyusahoe) on Netflix.

Other than that, Fishbowl Wives is average at best. But at its' worst, it is like a 4.5 stars-that keeps dragging on and on.

Reason why I say this, it relies heavily on the softcore sex scenes. In order to cover up the weaker elements of the script. Kdramas on the other hand, have less scenes like these, but manage to be more entertaining.

However I will admit the softcore sex scenes were well done, enjoyable, and I hope more dramas put them in. Without sacrificing the storyline, dialogue, and character development.

All the stories are realistic

All the stories are realistic. We are so caught up with life that we kinda lose out on what is precious to us. I really like the chapter on chaperone wife.

Disgusting Domestic Violence Justification

I've watched many Japanese dramas and this is the worst one I've ever seen. The justification of domestic violence is reprehensible. It feels like the male big wigs in Japanese government have laid their filthy hands on the production of this drama to enforce the "women exist to serve men" mentality upon us. And yet another inconclusive ending that doesn't answer the main questions that are raised throughout the series. Honestly, don't waste your precious time with this pathetic garbage that is afraid to tackle important social issues head on. Just when you think a producer has the guts to take a stand, they once again cower into the shadows and leave you with nothing but disappointment.

Compassionate storytelling

Found this short series by accident on Netflix. The ending left me heartbroken, but with hope. Subtle, compassionate shades, emotionally and morally, a moving story tapestry, well-told. The title arises from a metaphor: goldfish can only grow as much as the fishbowl allows, and if you do not care enough to refresh the water daily, they will begin to sicken and die. Hence, "goldfish wives." But the narratives extend compassion to the stumbling husbands as well. Like Madame Bovary, these characters simply refuse to live without love and happiness. Sometimes, they create an even bigger mess, but sometimes they "jump out of the bowl" and continue to swim.

If you want revealing, you will get revealing

I don't know if this is called a soft porno or what, but there are full sex scenes with each of the 6 guys and each of the 6 women in this series as they go out cheating. Each woman has a reason to go out cheating - from having a cheating husband to not getting any attention at home and different reasons. What I didn't understand is why these leading men/women would want to take on such soft porno role as I thought that was for B actors that couldn't get an acting job otherwise so I looked up the leading male bio and found that he has quite an impressive bio so it was not that he needed a job. Maybe Japan is a little more free-er in their attitudes I have no idea. There has been controversy in the US with some recent Netflix programming and now I see why. Watched the whole drama and didn't really like the ending as I didn't quite understand what happened there at the end with the leading man and woman so gave it only a 5 star rating.

Just skip watching this all together...

Meh! I expected more out of this. The story is supposed to be about 6 women and how infidelities affect their marriages. Each one unhappy in their own way but unwilling to leave for x reason. What's really upsetting is this mentality of submissiveness and how dv should be tolerated. There were so many instance throughout this series in which I kept saying they are unhappy, just leave and end of story.
