Minakata Jin is often referred to as practicing Dutch medicine. Also known as rangaku, was a different practice to Japanese medicine of the era. Rangaku was learnt via a Dutch trading post notable for being the single place of direct trade and exchange between Japan and the outside world during the Edo period.
