Was it...

Was it supposed to be a comedy? Me thinks the sour acting had a hand in this comedy of horrors. The lead actresses are not all at the same level. The one actress delivers a particularly forced and adolescent performance. The more mature members of the cast delivered more genuine performances. With a little better casting, I think this film could have really made a mark. And, the writing - is this really what women sound like with each other? I mean horror is horror, right? Overall, eh, but maybe there's a long life for these players in just horror. So three stars and there's always time to improve.

"KillHer" Gory, Campy Fun

KillHer has a familiar slasher setup: a group of young women go camping in the woods. They are celebrating the engagement of Maggie (played by Jenna Z.) to her fiancee Jagger (Jack Schumacher).

Maggie's two long-time friends, Jess and Rae (Emily Hall and Nicole Lovince) try their best to be supportive, even though they are less than enthused at the idea of spending a weekend in a tent removed from civilization. Compounding their apathy is the strange presence of Maggie's new friend, Eddie, played with gusto by M. C. Huff. Eddie is a lot. She enjoys scaring the girls with her knife and mask, and seems clingy with Maggie to the point of obsession.

In a standout performance, writer/producer and veteran character actor Tom Kiesche is in turns gruff and comical as the complicated character, Mr. Rogers. Harrison White is also hysterical, as the larger-than-life motel manager and karaoke MC named HXB.

As the plot unfolds there are some elements you likely will have put together in advance, if you're a fan of this type of movie. Some you may not. The story has some fun twists and turns and a few surprises. "KillHer" grows in suspense and humor as the story progresses.

The score adopts themes from a variety of classic horror soundtracks, from John Carpenter's greatest hits, to "Psycho," and "The Exorcist," among others.

The movie's playful humor, quirky characters, bright color palate, and use of daylight for many scenes sets this film apart from other more formulaic entries in this sub-genre. "KillHer" ramps up to a very exciting -- and gory finale that sticks the landing.

Bringing Boredom to Your Home Screen

Wow, this was one horrible movie.

The story-line is as old as Ling Tut. Secluded camp, a bunch of young kids, yada yada yada....

Phony jump scares up the yazoo.

A ridiculously pathetic, derivative script that will bore you to shreds and grade Z direction.

The acting is juvie level. Like 10th grade.

But the biggest problem is you've seen this all before. Like a zillion times. There is nothing new, nothing to wrap your head around and nothing original.

The non-hot girls wear padded bras and even tho they take them off, you see nothing. More disappointment. Although I suspect we'd be disappointed either way.

I want my time back

There's no amount of drugs or alcohol in the world to make this unoriginal schlock tolerable. All the characters are one dimensional and interchangable, the "twist" is revealed way too early, and the kills are too boring and vanilla to keep any interest. There are literally no comedy elements present unless you laugh at bad acting. You're honestly better off watching Evil Dead or an early Friday movie if you want a good slasher in the woods, this is NOT a movie to share with friends unless you secretly hate them and never want to see them again. I'd rather have spent this time having a homeless person wax my a$$.

A great low-budget horror that knows exactly what it is

I saw this at Screamfest in Hollywood in a wolf-out theater. Once the movie takes off, it's a blast. Well-put-together sequences, funny writing, and a character named "HXB" (Harrison White) who steals every scene he's in.

For most of the movie it's more comedy than horror but when it DOES go horror, strap in - it really goes for it.

This is a movie with an obvious low budget that really makes the most of its resources. The directing and cinematography are done skillfully and manage to make the film feel more expansive in scope than it probably was.

It seems to rely mostly on practical effects instead of CGI which I greatly appreciate. Check it out!

Bringing Back Classic Horror

This film is fantastic! I had the privilege of watching this film as part of Screamfest. When you participate in film festivals for press, or as general admission, you never know what you will end up seeing, but this film was in my top 2.

It feels like it's hard to find good horror films these days, this did not disappoint. It was well written and directed, along with a great cast. This film had you putting your phone down and actually paying attention. It had jump scares, comedic moments, and more. I cannot recommend this film enough!

I think this film will be one that stands the test of time.

Really fun slasher

I just saw this at Screamfest and really enjoyed it. Especially Tom's performance as Mr. Rogers. It really captures the fun and gore of the old school eighties slasher films with a smart script with lots of twist and surprises. The gore and makeup effects are killer. They were done by Kelton Ching who is a phenomenal makeup artist. Producer Ron Roggé was great as the reserve ranger. He really did a fantastic job putting this team together.

This film had several great breakout performances as well especially those from feature newcomers Jenna Alvarez and M. C. Huff. The relationship between these two really holds the film together.

Fun Romping Rollercoaster

The film is a genre-bending romp. Solid talented cast, directing, writing, editing, music score, art direction, make up, visuals... All the way through.

It premiered at Screamfest in Hollywood. It twisted, turned, and paid off bigly for what felt like all of us sitting at the World Premiere audience. It's not listed as a comedy, but humor comes out of the honesty of the characters and a few subtle nods to camp. I believe the audience laughed out loud more times than in many comedies. Think movies like Scream, Dale and Tucker vs Evil...

It was a sold out house, and according to organizers, the crowd was insane in the best of ways. The film got an immediate Encore Screening at Screamfest 2022.

Suspenseful and funny

I like how the movie was suspenseful but also funny, I gave it a 8 out of 10, the only thing I wish there would've been more killing and gore, but that's just what I like in movies but as far as the acting and suspense I absolutely loved it!!! I like how it was the camping trip and the suspected killer but then the twist thrown in there, another thing that I can say that I liked is how it didn't have the typical "car won't start" that's always thrown into scary movies, lol. I like how the girls all stuck together till the end and helped each other through the movie and the villain getting taken out was the best, lol.

A crazy train you want a ticket to.....

M. C. was a force to be dealt with in the most viseral of ways, the rest of the cast was great as well, I definitely give credit to the writer of this film he really knows his stuff, if there's a sequel sign me up. But the director is definitely knows how to shock and awe an audience. The beginning of the film sets you off right with pre bachelorette weekend from hell, but Mr. Rodgers is the heart and sole of this picture, and I loved the cabin scene it had the right amount of humor to break up the following scenes with high tension, and more than satisfying ending. The special effects where very on point.

KillHer is Killer

KillHer is a fun film. With twists and turns throughout its always engaging. It's well cast and the lead M. C. Huff is fantastic. The script by Tom Kiesche (who also has a pivotal role) is well paced and has intriguing character development. The twists and turns are unexpected and fresh. The film looks very polished and well done especially for the budget. There's plenty of blood spilled and there are truly laugh out loud moments, even after repeated viewing. This is best seen with an audience. It a shame this film did not have a larger theatrical release. This would make a perfect midnight movie.

Loved it!

I just saw the movie KillHer at the Screamfest festival in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and I absolutely loved it!

Amazing performance of the actors, the writing was intelligent, with humor and twists- it was both funny and scary. The shooting was beautiful. There was original music and sound that went along during almost the entire movie. Perfect makeup and art designing.

I was so into the movie, and I hope there'll be KillHer 2! Everything was just so amazing.

I don't want to give any spoilers but get ready to laugh a lot and jump a lot of your seat. I enjoyed it a lot, and I highly recommend it!!!

Throwback to the glory days of 80s slasher flicks

This one is wild! The opening sets it up for what kind of wild ride you're about to have. There's a bachelorette party that goes a little crazy to say the least and from there it's a series of horror comedy done for those who can remember 80s slashers.

The make up effects are very impressive for what's considered a low budget horror movie. They're even better than studio horror movies who have bigger budgets. Goes to show audiences care more about quality of the story instead of flashy, crank em out boring horror.

Back in the 80s kids like me went to see the latest slasher movie to see those gory effects. This one doesn't disappoint plus there's a humorous story here too in between some effective scenes of horror and suspense. I had the chance to see this at an advanced screening and knew nothing about it. Those little known horror films tend to be the best ones and this is my favorite this year. No spoilers but the third act including the ending was very satisfying. A few folks involved in the production of this movie were on hand at the screening I attended. They're hope is this movie can gain enough traction for major release based on audience feedback. If this one hits your town, check it out and thank me later. Not since the first Elm Street movie has their been some new life breathed into the horror genre.

Super fun Horror Comedy

I thought this was a terrific slasher comedy. It's actually quite difficult to get horror comedy right but this film does it so well. It is paced perfectly and the ending is something you'll be cheering for in terms of the gore and fun. When you think of really good horror comedy a couple of titles come to mind. Shaun of the Dead, Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil, and of course Evil Dead 2. I'm happy to report that this is definitely in the same family. I think you can rent or buy it at present but I can tell you this is definitely worth buying because you will watch it again and again with different friends. (It's one of those kinds of movies that you will love helping friends discover like What we Do in Shadows for example)

KILLHER is a Thriller with humor! A definite must see!!!!

My family and I loved this movie, and the from beginning to end was very engaging. Keep in mind in my review I don't want to give away what happens. You'll enjoy the end with SPOILER and SPOILER....lol Redemption. Lol SPOILER was absolutely SPOILER. SPOILER at the end was amazing. Loved when SPOILER. SPOILER was surprising, as was SPOILER....lol. Also, the SPOILER had me laughing. There is a line in the movie that Mr. Roger's played by Tom Kiesche belts out, about Potpourri and floral farts, which had us all cracking up. My mom is now a fan and my sons thought it was amazing that the writer/producer/actor who played Mr. Rogers (Tom Kiesche) helps save dogs from shelter to shelter. They loved him as Clovis on Breaking Bad. My personal favorite thing he did was a gladiator project he was in. Lol Wondering if there will be a sequel or prequel! We really enjoyed it!!! I bought the movie. We will definitely watch it again. Doc Loc, (Ron Rogge') I've also seen in something else. I just can't put my finger on what it was yet.

Fun and worth the watch!

This was worth the watch. I've watched this twice now and enjoyed it both times. It's a fun movie!

IMHO, I think it's better the second time. The first time I saw it, the psychotic storyline kept me on the edge of my seat in suspense. But, it also had me laughing at some clever moments and rooting for the good guys.

The second time I saw it, I loved connecting all the dots and catching all the subtleties. I was very impressed with how you can interpret the same scenes and acting several different ways and they all work. It keeps you guessing till the end.

Oh, one more thing... beware of the raccoons!

Exceeded My Expectations

I absolutely loved this movie. I went in with fairly low expectations, but eager to watch because I love horror. This knocked it out of the park.

The comedy is fantastic. There are several one-liners that I am going to work into daily conversation. (See: "F*** yeah, boomer!" and "Raccoons!") The acting is also excellent. The reserve ranger and motel staff member in particular had me cracking up with their spot-on comedic timing, despite their relatively small roles in the overall movie.

The plot was believable throughout and even though I didn't like several of the characters (I don't think I was supposed to like them), their narrative arcs made sense given what we knew about them. I also found myself trying to figure out who was going to do what next and being dead wrong several times. The plot twists weren't always obvious but did make sense within the storyline once they were revealed.

I would definitely recommend this movie for a funny, gory watch.

Won't you be my neighbHER

Kills: 8/10 Laughs: 7.8/10 Twists: 8.1/10 Rewatchability: 7.5/10 Raccoons: 10/10

This one plays into its strengths. The kills are worth the wait, the one-liners have you cheering, and the cast all have their own huge moments.

As someone always looking for a campy flick to recommend to my buds, this one definitely makes the cut.

This is a great horror flick if you're looking for something with sinister kills, fun twists and some solid well timed laughs. For fans of more elevated horror, do not fret, this film makes you grapple with one of life's more uncomfortable questions. You have nowhere to hide as you sit with the unpleasant idea that one day you might in fact get it like a big house.

SO fun - the music was AWESOME!

REALLY loved this film, especially the comedic horror parts.

I'm a huge fan of horror that can incorporate other genres, and this one really took the cake. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, plus I realized the music pushed along the plot in a perfect way.

I did not see the funny parts coming, mostly because the music was working with the action and screenwriting in a way that was suspenseful but fun.

It felt like a slasher film from the 80's but with more modern day themes and storylines. As someone who is a screenwriter, I think it's really tough to find the balance between actually scaring your audience and entertaining them with horror laughs.

LOVED IT.

A Bloody Good Time 😈

KillHer was such a fun surprise of a flick!!!!. It's a wild mix of horror and comedy that actually works, which isn't easy to pull off. The pacing is tight, the twists kept me on the edge of my seat, and the ending was just the right amount of over-the-top. You can tell it was made with love for the genre, and it really leans into the slasher vibe without feeling stale. It's got cult classic written all over it!!

KillHer

It begins with suspense, surprise horror, and shots of comedy. In several scenes suspense is mixed with comedy. Maybe one character wants to kill her? Who? Why? A carefree fun girls' weekend wedding party camping trip gets complicated quickly. Fun turns into suspense. A homemade mask and a knife on a camping trip ? The writer T. Kiesche wastes no time! Clues carefully lead to what happens next without sacrificing the element of surprise because of the great editing.

The multifaceted characters are all affable. Kiesche methodically lets the audience know what each character is thinking which lays the foundation for the finale. A must see for thriller book & movie fans.
