Lake Placid 3

Betty White's Cult Classic Creature Feature Is Quietly Dominating Streaming 26 Years Later
Image
Betty White’s career spanned nearly seven decades, and while she is likely most well-known for her role as Rose in The Golden Girls, the five-time Emmy Award-winning actor stole the show in this 1999 creature feature. Now, 26 years later, Lake Placid, starring Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, and Oliver Platt, along with White, is becoming a sleeper hit on streaming.

Per FlixPatrol, Lake Placid is now the No. 7 most-streamed movie on AMC+ as of July 13. The movie from director Steve Miner and writer David E. Kelley is up from the No. 10 spot, which it held on July 5. The movie is ahead of Dark Winds, The Last Anniversary, and Ash, which hold the No. 8, 9, and 10 spots, respectively.

Lake Placid, billed as a dark comedy horror film, also stars Brendan Gleeson as Sheriff Hank Keogh, who, while waiting in a boat on Black Lake in Maine, his colleague and wildlife officer, goes scuba diving.

26 Years Later, Bill Pullman's Cult Classic Creature Feature Is Quietly Dominating the Streaming Charts
Image
Actor Bill Pullman may be best known for his roles in Independence Dayand Spaceballs, but in 1999, he starred in an underrated creature feature about a crocodile that terrorized the residents of a fictional Maine town. Now, 26 years later, Lake Placid is climbing up the streaming charts, per FlixPatrol.

As of July 5, the movie, which also starred Bridget Fonda, Brendan Gleeson (Spider Noir), Oliver Platt (The Bear), Betty White, and Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Svu), is sitting in the Number 10 spot in AMC+’s Top 10 Movies in the United States. Directed by Steve Miner, who also directed Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) and Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Lake Placid is arguably one of the more underrated horror flicks of its time.

A Breed Apart Review – Absurdity Unleashed
Image
When I was twenty-years-old I watched The Breed, a cheesy killer dog movie starring Michelle Rodriguez at the height of her popularity. By no stretch of the imagination was it a “good” movie, but nearly twenty years later I still remember it. It’s the type of mind-numbing popcorn flick that goes great with an extra cheese pizza and a cold refreshing beer. It’s not the type of movie that I’d ever imagined would get a sequel, especially not nearly two decades later. While A Breed Apart isn’t exactly a direct follow-up to its predecessor, it maintains the absurdity of the original while doubling down on the comedy.

The plot

A movie set is abandoned when the canine actors unexpectedly contract rabies and attack their animal handlers. The dogs are left to freely roam the island until several years later when a group of influencers are called...

'A Breed Apart's Grace Caroline Currey and Riele Downs Face a Wes Craven-Inspired Horror in New Image [Exclusive]
Image
One of Wes Craven's cult classics is getting a spiritual successor this summer in the form of A Breed Apart. Written and directed by The Furst Brothers, the survival horror comedy puts a new spin on 2006's The Breed, a film produced by the legendary Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream director that starred Michelle Rodriguez and followed a group of college kids on a "deserted" island where dogs were bred to kill. The new feature modernizes the concept, instead centering on a private island retreat where a group of social media influencers are confronted with man-eating beasts and forced into a deadly fight for survival that pits them against one another. We're excited to include the chilling survival flick as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies and share a new image highlighting two of the stars who will be thrown to the hounds on...

Page Kennedy to play a country rapper in The Breed remake
Image
Back in 2006, Wes Craven produced a killer dog movie called The Breed (watch it Here), which was directed by Nicholas Mastandrea from a screenplay by Robert Conte and Peter Martin Wortmann and starred Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively, Hill Harper, Nick Boraine, and Lisa-Marie Schneider. I thought the movie just slipped into obscurity, since I don’t think I’ve heard anyone reference it in the eighteen years since its release, but apparently it has gained enough of a cult following that it’s now getting the remake treatment. A couple weeks ago, we learned that Grace Caroline Currey of Fall is set to star in the film, and now Variety reports that Page Kennedy – who had to deal with man-eating sharks in The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench – has joined Currey in the cast of this killer dog redo.

Kennedy will be playing a character called Farmer John,...

Grace Caroline Currey takes on a new challenge in The Breed remake, showcasing her ability to lead a thrilling survival narrative. The Brothers Furst direct the film, aiming to elevate it beyond the lukewarm reception of the original through Currey's performance. The Breed remake could surprise viewers by tapping into the current trend of animal attack films, offering a fresh take on the horror genre.

Grace Caroline Currey, better known for 2022's hit Fall, will star in the upcoming Wes Craven remake film of The Breed. The film is described as "reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic."

The upcoming version of The Breed introduces a fresh take on the original's narrative, focused on Violet, portrayed by Currey. Michelle Rodriguez's Poorly-Reviewed 2006 Horror Movie Is Getting A Remake
Image
Michelle Rodriguez's 2006 movie The Breed is receiving a remake from Curmudgeon Films and Daro Film Distribution. Producers Nathan and Griff Furst will direct the remake, with Grace Caroline Currey in the lead role. The movie has the opportunity to improve on the original, which was poorly received.

Michelle Rodriguez's poorly reviewed horror movie The Breed will be receiving a remake. The original 2006 title, which was produced by Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street director Wes Craven, followed a group of friends whose tranquil island vacation is ruined when they are attacked by a pack of genetically modified killer dogs. The cast of the movie, which has a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes, also included Nashville's Oliver Hudson, Orange is the New Black's Taryn Manning, The L Word's Eric Lively, and The Good Doctor's Hill Harper.

Per Variety, The Breed is getting a remake from Curmudgeon Films...

The Best Crossovers In Horror Movie History
Image
Who doesn't love a good crossover? Besides the fact that they settle nerds' constant debates of "who would win in a fight between ___ and ___?," there's something so exciting about seeing the main characters of two or more different franchises coming together for the first time ever. Another reason why crossovers have so much appeal with audiences is that there are often legal reasons why characters from one series can't mingle with those of another, making the times when they do meet on the big (or small) screen all the more special.

Crossovers got a massive boost in popularity due to the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, crossovers haven't only been relegated to the superhero realm; for decades, there have been numerous other examples of fictional worlds colliding across numerous genres. In fact, well before Nick Fury appeared at the end of "Iron Man" to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative,...

Titanoboa Movie Coming Resident Evil Team
Kirsten Howard May 23, 2019

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.

Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.

The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

The biggest snake in noted history, the Titanoboa has been long dead for about 58 million years, but back in its heydey it weighed about 2,500 lbs and grew up to 42 ft long,...

‘Lake Placid vs. Anaconda’ Review
Stars: Corin Nemec, Yancy Butler, Stephen Billington, Robert Englund, Skye Lourie, Oliver Walker, Ali Eagle, Annabel Wright, Laura Dale, Georgina Philipps, Nigel Barber, Heather Gilbert | Written by Berkeley Anderson | Directed by A.B. Stone

Roger Corman and folks at The Asylum have a lot to answer for… That’s all I’m saying.

Sharknado. A film that proved you don’t have to have a lot of money or great CGI to pull in an audience on the Syfy channel. All you need is a giant creature and a ridiculous concept! Since the debut of That film, it seems like Syfy have greenlit any and all monster movie scripts that they’re sent. Hence we come to Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.

A few years ago the idea of these two monster-movie franchises coming together – especially given they weere originally made by two different studios (Lake Placid was a Fox production, whilst...

Determined to make the best of things Sarah tries to settle in but she is disturbed by bizarre neighbours, strange sounds coming through the paper-thin walls, creepy images on the TV and an overwhelming feeling that she is being watched.

Taking the shark flick to it’s illogical conclusion, Ghost Shark sees the titular shark haunting the beachside town of Smallport after being harpooned, shot and almost blown up by a couple of shark hunters. You see Smallport has a mysterious cave that dates back to the early settlement days, a cave that was the location for a number of deaths and a cave that is the subject of a local legend which foretells that any man, woman, and in this case shark,...

A Ghost Shark's Tale: Director Griff Furst Previews Syfy's Latest Movie
Ghost Shark is not writer-director Griff Furst's first Syfy rodeo. Arachnoquake, Swamp Shark and Lake Placid 3 all bear his name as director. (He's also acted in quite a few Syfy movies.) Ghost Shark, though, is the first that gives him writing credit, for the story of a town haunted by the bloodthirsty phantom of a great white (airing Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9/8c). TV Guide Magazine spoke to Furst about the mechanics of a ghost shark kill, how one comes by the title of "Syfy original movie director," and the specter of Sharknado.

Bridget Fonda in Lake Placid (1999)
FEARnet Movie Review: 'Lake Placid 4: The Final Chapter'
Bridget Fonda in Lake Placid (1999)

When it comes to reviewing a Part 4, I often like to start out with a quick and hopefully helpful little "franchise history lesson," just to bring everyone up to speed -- but is that really necessary at this point? Probably not. What was once a strange but amusing little matinee movie from a well-known TV producer has (somehow, slowly) turned into a cable TV sequel franchise that exists for nothing more than to fill a random Saturday night slot with a lot of silliness and a bunch of crocodile madness. Congrats to the goofily-named Lake Placid 4: it not only qualifies under those criteria, it's also the most stupidly entertaining entry in this non-franchise since the first one... which wasn't all that great but hey, people who love movies about man-eating crocodiles* can't afford to be all that discerning. But for the sake of tradition: Lake Placid (1999), written by David E. Kelley...

Last week we reviewed Dragon Wasps, a Syfy channel produced creature feature released by Chelseas Films and this week we have Arachnoquake, a Syfy channel produced creature feature released by our friends at Signature Entertainment. I think I see a trend forming… Not that I’m complaining, I love the cheesy Syfy channel TV movies – mainly because unlike big-budget Hollywood flicks, these movies know exactly what they are and their limitations and have fun with it! This time round it’s the story of an earthquake in the Deep South that, besides making a mess of the roads, unleashes a swarm of albino spiders of all shapes and sizes who, as they do in these types of movies, converge on New Orleans to reek havoc on the locals.

Syfy and The Asylum Join Forces to Show Discovery Channel How Shark Week Should Really Be Done
Next week Discovery Channel begins its annual salute to nature’s perfect predators, but the festivities really begin on Syfy this Saturday night when an Asylum movie entitled Shark Week has its world premiere.

As you’ll see from the trailer below, what we have here is Jaws meets Saw.

The same writing/directing duo behind The Asylum’s earlier 2-Headed Shark Attack, Christopher Ray and H. Perry Horton, have reunited for an even bigger feeding frenzy.

I think as you read the plot synopsis below, we can all agree that this is pretty much where the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” will inevitably lead.

Synopsis:

A group of complete strangers find themselves isolated by a wealthy madman on his island compound. They are forced into a horrifying gauntlet where they must survive a barrage of ever deadlier species of shark.

That’s Patrick Bergin (Patriot Games, Highway to Hell...

Patrick Bergin and Yancy Butler Chumming the Waters for The Asylum's Shark Week

Michael Ironside and the evolution of his missing body parts
One of the all-time great screen villains, Michael Ironside also has a tendency to lose body parts. Phil celebrates the Laurence Olivier of the missing limb...

If there is one thing guaranteed to get me to watch a film, regardless of my mood or the movie’s reputation, it would be the sentence, “It’s got Michael Ironside in it”. I’m just a huge fan, and have loved his work ever since I first saw the original V TV mini-series one balmy childhood summer while I was staying at my Auntie Anne's.

As Ham Tyler, the leather jacketed ex-cia agent who becomes an instrumental figure in the Los Angeles Resistance movement, Ironside seemed to dominate every scene he was in, and what impressed me most about his zero tolerance approach to the alien visitors was that here was a good guy who looked and sounded like a bad guy.

Witness the Rage of the Yeti this Weekend on Syfy
This Saturday night, November 12th, marks that magical time again when Syfy dips into the Sasquatchploitation genre for a new movie. If you want to witness what it looks like when the Abominable Snowman gets pissed, then have a look at these video clips from Rage of the Yeti.

The first thing you need to understand about this Yeti flick is that the Yeti isn’t really a Yeti. It’s actually a Yeren, the film’s original title. (Yeren, that is; not It’s Actually a Yeren. But how funny would that have been?) The “Yeren” is described as a smaller breed of Bigfoot said to roam China’s remote Hubei province. The name “Yeren” translates to “Chinese Wildman”.

But who the hell in America knows what a Yeren is so Rage of the Yeti it is.

“Stargate: Atlantis” co-star David Hewlett does double duty as both co-star and...

And now its the turn of delightful Elisabeth Rohm (below) star of TV's 'Heroes' and the Antonio Negret thriller 'Transit'. The sequel is reportedly shooting in Bulgaria and will star Rohm as the new local Sheriff. The 'final' part of the franchise is expected to air on SyFy sometime next year...

A Nightmare on Lake Placid: The Final Chapter
Back in 1977 a young Robert Englund co-starred in Tobe Hooper’s Eaten Alive about a backwoods maniac feeding people to a crocodile. A quarter century later, Englund will be back contending with crocodiles in Lake Placid: The Final Chapter. And a former “Angel” star will be joining him.

Just a few weeks back we reported that Lake Placid 3 star Yancy Butler had already signed on for Lake Placid 4, which was gearing up to begin shooting in Bulgaria. Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV just broke the news that the original Freddy Krueger has signed on to star in Lake Placid: The Final Chapter, following in the footsteps of Betty White, Cloris Leachman, and Colin Ferguson, who have each portrayed members of the Bickerman family in the preceding three Lake Placid films.

Robert Englund will portray Jim Bickerman, a poacher caught up in the latest man-eating crocodile rampage at...

Yancy Butler Returns from the Dead for Lake Placid 4
When I reviewed Lake Placid 3 last year, I stated that the best part of the film was Yancy Butler’s surly croc hunter. The producers must have agreed since she’s just been signed to star in Lake Placid 4 despite her character having died in the previous film.

Yes, Virginia, there will be a Lake Placid 4. Bloody Disgusting broke the news that Yancy Butler (“Witchblade”) has signed on to star in it. Hopefully, she’ll be playing the same entertaining character she did in part three. If that’s the case, they’re going to have to explain why her character is no longer dead. Different character? Twin sister? Guess we’ll have to wait until Lake Placid 4 almost certainly premieres on Syfy sometime next year.

The only other info as of now regarding this latest sequel is that it will be directed by Don Michael Paul (Half Past Dead,...

I Spit on Your Jabberwock Clips
This weekend’s Jabberwock gives the Syfy creature feature treatment to the insect-headed dragon of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Syfy has posted two clips from the medieval monster movie from I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.

Jabberwock stars Michael Worth (“Acapulco H.E.A.T.”, Sasquatch Mountain), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”, Trick ‘r Treat), and Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3). Rafael Jordan (Frost Giant, Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon) and Raul Inglis (Sand Serpents, Goblin) handled the scripting duties.

Here’s a rather spoiler-y synopsis for Jabberwock courtesy of the film’s distributors at American World Pictures that was clearly written by someone who confused the concept of synopsis with treatment. Whoever wrote it also doesn’t have much need for silly things like paragraphs. Believe me, when I start giving grammar lessons, you've got problems.

Alec (Michael Worth), a courageous but impetuous knight,...

Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (2011)
Directed by: Mary Lambert

Written by: Naomi L. Selfman

Cast: Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, A. Martinez, Kathryn Joosten

Okay, let's get one thing clear. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid is a bad movie. The film contains glaring continuity errors, the acting gets pretty wooden at times, the script is just as lazy as you'd expect and the CGI is pretty bad (though not as bad as Lake Placid 3). In short, it's everything you'd expect from The Asylum, but that's not to say the film isn't a lot of fun. While it doesn't reach the inspired heights of unintentional lunacy in Mega Piranha, director Mary Lambert keeps things moving with very little drag time and refuses to take things too seriously.

The movie opens with Dr. Nikki Riley (Debbie Gibson), an environment activist, breaking into a building to steal a bunch of exotic pythons. With her are Gia and Ben, who are...

‘Griff the Invisible’ starring Ryan Kwanten – trailer review
Griff the Invisible

Directed by: Leon Ford

Starring: Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody, Marshall Napier

Rating: Not Yet Rated

Release Date: August 19, 2011

Trailer Score: 4/10

Thoughts by Tsr: Nope, this is not a Michael Rapaport documentary about Public Enemy‘s inconspicuous Professor Griff, this is Leon Ford’s Griff the Invisible, or as I’d like to call it: Kick Ass meets Charlie Bartlett.

Yeah, based solely on this trailer, I think that’s about as accurate a descriptor as possible, though it looks much less sleek than Kick Ass and Kwanten looks much less likable than the lovable Anton Yelchin.

Too many trailer cliches bounced off the screen here. From the nerdy guy getting the pretty girl, to the cheesy over-the-top emotey music, to the “and then he did this outrageousness to his obnoxious co-worker,” only to find that he was just fantasizing. Seriously, how many times have we seen that mechanism employed?...

Eliza Bennet (Inkheart, Nanny McPhee), Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3), and Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta, Citizen X, and Oscar nominated Best Actor for The Crying Game) star in this creature feature from director Johannes Roberts (When Evil Calls, Forest of the Damned) and writer Rick Suvalle ("V.I.P.").

Patricia Arquette And Kacey Barnfield Cast In The David Arquette Directed Glutton
Actor Abraham Benrubi takes the lead in the David Arquette helmed horror effort 'Glutton'. The new psychological thriller which revolves around a 1200-pound man (played by Benrubi) will be Arquette's second go at directing within the genre following his 2006 serial killer effort 'The Tripper'. Over the weekend the new movie received a couple of interesting cast additions in the form of David's sister Patricia Arquette and rising star Kacey Barnfield ('Jabberwocky'). This won't be the first time David has directed his sister having helmed a few episodes of Patricia's hit series 'Medium' in the past. Kacey (below), star of 'Lake Placid 3' and 'Resident Evil: Afterlife', will be joining the project when the production begins shooting next month in Canada....

Syfy Previews the Bloody Rampage of Ice Road Terror and Swamp Shark
It feels like it has been too long since Syfy has uncorked some new man-eating monster movies for us to sink our teeth into. That'll change come June when the network unleashes a pair of toothy monstrosities: Ice Road Terror and Swamp Shark. Syfy has posted a trio of bloody scenes from each monster mash.

The carnage begins on June 11th at 9/8 Central when Ice Road Terror reaches its destination on your television dial. Dylan Neal ("Dawson's Creek", "Blood Ties") and Brea Grant (Halloween II, "Heroes") star in this creature feature about Alaskan ice road truckers and a research analyst tangling with an unearthed prehistoric monster. The director (Terry Ingram) and writer (Keith Shaw) of Syfy's Phantom Racer reteam for this creature feature inspired by the popular reality series "Ice Road Truckers". Curiously, though, one thing you will not actually see in these clips is any actual ice road trucking.

Hyenas (2010)
Directed By: Eric Weston

Starring: Costas Mandylor, Christa Campbell, Amanda Aardsma, Derrick Kosinski, Joshua Alba, Christina Murphy

It’s not hard to see why out of about 10 different DVDs, the first one my hand gravitates towards is called, Hyenas. What’s not to love about hyenas that eat people? The cover is simple and straight forward; a giant snarling hyena probably laughing and saying mean things about Mufasa because that’s what hyenas do. Imagine my surprise then, when within the first few minutes of the film, the “hyenas” are seen driving cars and wearing Ray-Bans. That’s right, these hyenas are more like werewolves---only not as cool and worse at acting.

The latest muck that Lionsgate Dtv offers up is the latest creative spin on the werewolf genre and it’s terrible. So terrible in fact that the best actor cast in the film is none other than that...

Man vs, Woman vs, robot vs.dinosaur!
Don't even try to tell me you havne't wondered who would win in a battle between history's greatest titans. That's right, I'm talking about an epic battle between a robot, a dinosaur, a man and earth's greatest threat of all... a woman!

Man vs. Woman is short film from 2006 directed by Juan Carlos Vargas who has done a tone of FX supervosing for films like SyFy's Annihilation Earth and TV's Lake Placid 3. Vargas also has a really cool sounding project in the works called Elimination about a bunch of actors who audition for a reality show for a million dollars. All they have to do is survive three killers, and each other - streaming live over the Internet. It was in dev in 2010, but we haven't heard since then so I hope we hear more from it soon.

Synopsis:

A science-fiction action film about an explosive duel between four desperate scavengers -- a man,...

Eureka Season 4

In Warehouse 13, Saul Rubinek (Barney’s Version) plays the head of a secret government department that hunts down and stores such supernatural objects as Icarus’ wings and Edgar Alan Poe’s pen, which when used, can end disastrously. The show stars Eddie McClintock (TV’s Bones) and Joanne Kelly (TV’s The Dresden Files) as former Secret Service agents who get recruited to work at Warehouse 13 tracking down the mythical artifacts and Jaime Murray (TV’s Spartacus: Gods of the Arena) as the infamous H.G. Make a Date with Swamp Shark
SyFy has set a June 25 premiere date for Swamp Shark , the latest in its string of nature-run-amok thrillers. Kristy Swanson, Db Sweeney and Robert Davi star in this cheap-o fodder directed by Griff Furst, the man who gave us Lake Placid 3 . In the film, a great white shark mutates and adapts to freshwater when a Us Government bio-terrorism research facility spills its radioactive chemicals into the ocean. As the shark wreaks havoc on Mississippi River towns and threatens the freshwater system of the country, an embattled local fisherman and his hillbilly crew become destined to kill it.

Trailer and Airdate for Giant Gypsy Curse Killer Bird Flick Roadkill
It comes as no surprise that the trailer for Rhi Entertainment's Roadkill would quickly pop up online once Syfy announced the Stephen Rea-starring monster movie's April 23rd premiere date. More surprising is that this Syfy movie about hit & run, gypsy curses, and a giant bird of prey doesn't look too shabby.

Kate and her brother, Joel, have gathered their five best friends for a scenic Rv road trip to their high school reunion. But their cross-country adventure is about to take an unexpected turn for the worst when an ancient curse takes wing by way of a massive creature. It’s called the Simuroc, and this gigantic bird of prey has found the perfect, helpless quarry in Kate and company. Stranded in the backwoods of the predator’s territory, there’s little chance for escape.

I really don't think the title Roadkill suits a movie with a premise like that.

Primal (2009)
Directed By: Josh Reed

Starring: Krew Boyland, Lindsay Farris, Rebekah Foord, Ch’aska Cuba de Reed

I don't really love the idea of camping, so it should come as no surprise that I am not usually a big fan of "survivalist" horror films. Primal however, is what people are calling a return to "Ozploitation". The majestic environment of the Australian Outback is apparently a frequent place where people get killed. Who knew? With this apparent return to Ozploitation, Primal is often quoted as being a film in the same vein as something like Cabin Fever, but what it ends up being is more or less just kind of a shrug, and also sometimes a laugh.

Six friends are venturing to the Australian Outback to check out some cave drawings. Oh wait before I forget, 12,000 years ago some guy was painting these cave drawings when some scary looking person killed him,...
