The Russian Godfather

After 'Warrior of Justice' a low budget vanity project had solid laughs, I had to see more from Jorgo Ognenovski. 'Russian Godfather' his action follow-up doesn't reach the same level, but it's not from lack of trying. One note story with the usual mix of guns and fisticuffs, silly villains as Jorgo (co-writer / director / producer and star) still belts out English as a second language kicking ass and taking names.

Russian gangsters takedown an LA bank, but lose a man in the process as word quickly reaches IPF (International Police Force, yes really) and their two top cops. American Daniel (Jeff Conway) and Russian Alexei (Ognenovski) who has a dark history with them. A hospital rescue goes sideways for the bad guys. So does the cops attempt to work their way into the organization undercover. Then boss Andrei (Levani) kidnaps Daniel's family and the price for their safe return is Alexei.

His writing hasn't improved much, but unfortunately less vanity cheese. No inserting himself into gratuitous sex scenes, no butt shot. However saves his partner more than once and usually gets the final word if not punch, kick or gunshot. Has a haunting flashback, but you'll be laughing when it cuts back to him with clown makeup on. Wait until you see the IPF headquarters sign. Plus two idiot henchmen. One smokes a doobie rather than finish off Alexei. Other told explicitly to follow a plan, but stops off to get laid instead which supplies the only female nudity here.

'Russian Godfather' is a dtv low budget buddy cop flick that is never more than serviceable. By the finale its gotten a lot more stupider, but unlike 'Warrior of Justice' is shot much better. Picture always in focus, sound always clear. I came for laughs and definitely got some, but I'd hoped there'd be more of them.
