punches above its weight class

(IMDb Top Reviewer). There is a scene here where the very neurotic boy tries to explain cooking to the very cool and self-possessed girl. "My mother tried to show me and it didn't work," she warns. Rom-coms themselves are also just a recipe. You need chemistry between the leads. And a knife-sharp script. Here, writer/director Roshan Sethi delivers both. On a budget. Hidden gem. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Please check out my list "167+ Nearly-Perfect Movies (with the occasional Anime or TV miniseries) you can/should see again and again (1932 to the present))

A surprisingly enjoyable COVID dramedy :-)

Many funny and heartwarming moments :-) An interesting look at arranged relationships across the ocean in America. Shows what can happen when two different souls are forced together in an unusual situation.

Grateful for the honesty

Really compelling. I'm so grateful for the honesty. Finally a movie that portrays those first few days of COVID. I feel like Hollywood is gaslighting me into believing the past 2 years didn't happen. I'm appreciative that the movie existed in a real present day.

Deserves more praise

Under rated. The story is beautifully told, both funny and poignant. The two stars have cosmic chemistry and I loved every minute they were on screen. An absolute delight of a film.

Quirky and refreshingly different.

I liked this movie. It is totally different than your average romantic comedy. The characters are flawed, and in very realistic ways. I think the movie does a good job of showing how paranoid everyone one was when Covid first shutdown our businesses and we had shelter at home orders.

Was the actual disease covered realistically? No. It's a comedy, not a documentary. I'm someone who has been married to a woman for 41 years, that I initially had no intention to marry. We were different religions and our parents opposed the marriage. We fell in love anyway, and she is the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I have great children and beautiful grandchildren. So this movie struck a chord with me. Sometimes opposites do attract. One person learns to be more fun, and one person learns to be more responsible. It's not a smooth process, but it's a productive one.

love is such a funny thing...

When youre actually lonely. Otherwise its a story about sickness and health, animalism vs vegetarianism, mums and mums, dating and matching on the web, alcohol and waterhole, sadness and very much the thought of dying in complete loneliness.

Its a cast of 2, throwing lies and spells at eachother, shes relaxed at her homeground, he's stressed and partly neurotic by the surroundings on her homeground. The cast is visual beauties, and the female wouldve made me sunk in the ground of sheer bliss(looks just like my better half when 20), they are good dialouging and seems to match from start.

The playlength of the film though is just far to long and the plotspeed dies a lot in the 2nd half. Its also to ocd'd on the covid topic, wouldve been a lot funnier if they had made a comedy out of breaking the covid rules, may that be a tip for another project.

All in all an indian related lovesearch story romcom, that tickles your vagus nerve in different ways depending , my grumpy better half would love this, the grumpy old man though prefers a lot more action and slapstick from comedies, so just a small recommend.

Arranged lockdown

The initial exchanges between the two youngsters are depressingly true to the vapid nonspeak that passes for conversation amongst the accidental denizens of the Disunited States, young and old. Even those with mixed ancestry croak and dither, their intellectual constipation producing a plethora of platitudes. Fortunately, under Sethi's agile handling things soon slither sideways into a layered piss-take of this social ineptitude, thanks principally to Rita (Geraldine Viswanathan) and her erratic command of herself and life(style), reversing parental control and manipulation so as to be (true to) herself. Her recognition of life's unpredictability gradually levers the hyperverbal Ravi (Karan Soni) into the concept of "doing less", and even having "fun": he is the product of his talkaholic mother, whereas Rita is her mother's corset-free nemesis. For millions of people around the world, lockdown knocked normality for six, and in this case it is hard not to hope the two realise their luck at confinement. Sethi's directing is occasionally Allenesque (notably the opening and closing sessions with elderly married couples talking about their unions), but refreshingly imaginative. Give it a try.
