In the book, the story takes place in Australia where the author, Liane Moriarty is from. In this show, the story is set in Florida, but filmed in Australia.
Liane Moriarty's other work has been adapted into the series Big Little Lies (2017). Three actresses from that series have played Sam Neill's character's wife or love interest in other films: Meryl Streep in Ein Schrei in der Dunkelheit (1988), Nicole Kidman in Todesstille (1989), and Laura Dern in Jurassic Park (1993).
Production of the series was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA & WGA strikes.
