In the summer of 2007 a group of emerging filmmakers and actors set out into the Scottish wilderness to make a low budget horror film in homage to the low budget American horror films of the 1970s. The grizzly slasher titled The Bench has never been completed, until now.

Inspired by Tobe Hooper’s original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), this team of filmmakers led by writer / director Sean Wilkie (Matter of Time) used the HD revolution to their advantage, shooting the film on Hdv tape lends a quality that’s been absent from cinema since 16mm celluloid went out of fashion some decades earlier, the film taps into elements established by the grungy guerilla films such as The Blair Witch Project.

If you poke around the Bloody Disgusting archives you’ll see that we wrote about an indie horror movie titled The Bench way back in 2012, a film that actually began production in 2007. The movie never ended up seeing the light of day… until now, that is.

Outlander Season 8 – The Return Of Marsali & Fergus

As seen on Outlander’s official Instagram page, Season 8 of the show is one week into filming, and Caitriona Balf (Claire Fraser) and Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) revealed in a video posted that two fan favorites would be returning to the series for the next season.

The video shows Caitriona and Sam sharing about new sets, new crews, and new cast members for next season, as well as some familiar faces, stating that Jamie’s adopted son, Fergus, and his wife Marsali (Jamie’s stepdaughter) are making a comeback.

The married couple left Outlander in Season 6 when they decided to move from Fraser’s Ridge in search of a better life.

Scottish actress Lauren Lyle has made a mark in showbusiness with her ability to play diverse characters and showcase her comedic chops. Going into this review, I don’t think I have much to say about Mercy Falls other than, with all respect to the cast and crew, you all came together and made a movie. Not a great one mind you but I have never made a movie so I respect the achievement.

Although, if the idea of a horror/thriller set in the Scottish Highlands from a director whose previous project was a Christmas movie tickles your fancy, I guess Mercy Falls would be the exact kind of movie you need in your life. Or if like me you are acutely aware that every now and then when taking a punt on an indie horror, it has turned out to be a bit of an unsung gem,...

Seventeen new films launch into UK-Ireland cinemas this weekend in a sign of the release schedule returning to its pre-pandemic state; as exhibitors look for a post-Barbenheimer success, and to capitalise on this year’s National Cinema Day, on Saturday, September 2.

Scotland-set survival horror Mercy Falls, starring Outlander’s Lauren Lyle, is getting a UK theatrical release courtesy of 108 Media’s newly-created film distribution label, Bingo Films.

Bingo Films will release the film in UK cinemas from September 1. Priscilla Ross Smith’s France-us sales outfit The Coven represents sales on the project, which has also sold to Bingo Films for Japan and Great Movies for Latin America. It is currently available in North America on streaming platform Tubi.
