Overlooked $4M Bill Skarsgård Thriller Becomes Streaming Hit
Image
An overlooked Bill Skarsgård thriller is climbing the streaming charts months after its quiet theatrical run. The younger brother of True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård and the son of Emmy nominee Stellan Skarsgård, Bill Skarsgård is best known for portraying the antagonist Pennywise in the 2017 Stephen King horror movie It, in addition to its sequel and an upcoming spinoff.

While the It movies were financially successful, as were his later movies John Wick: Chapter 4 and Nosferatu, several recent Bill Skarsgård movies have had underwhelming performances at the box office.

This includes the 2023 action-comedy Boy Kills World, which only grossed $3.3 million by the end of its theatrical run in 2024. That movie was followed by the 2024 adaptation of The Crow, which grossed just $24.1 million against its reported $50 million budget after debuting at No. 8 at the domestic box office.

The Street Fighter casting is using a brilliant formula to pick performers
Image
The Street Fighter project has begun casting, and you’ll see people being cast with a short list of credits on their IMDb pages or lack roles in action projects. That’s a good thing. It leaves fans of the game with fewer expectations since they don’t have much to go on. Granted, actors like Jason Momoa are established in their fields. That means you know what you're getting from them. Meanwhile, the others are still up in the air.

Coming up are the people cast in Street Fighter, who they’re playing, and whether or not they were good choices. Let’s start with the Otc (Original Tribal Chief).

‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ Score Pressed on 3xLP Vinyl by Mondo
Image
Composed by Ludvig Forssell, the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach score is available on vinyl from Mondo.

The album is pressed on 3xLP 140-gram custom swirl vinyl and zoetrope picture disc.

It’s housed in a trifold jacket featuring artwork by Entei Ryu with embossed inner gatefold lyrics and a transparent vellum bellyband.

Priced at $80, the release is expected to ship in November.

“I think my favorite part was the challenge of standing on my own shoulders and creating something that goes beyond what the first one was,” Forssell told Bloody Disgusting. “That was definitely the most satisfactory part of creating the soundtrack, and I personally really enjoy all of the music in all of its facets.”

Written, directed, and produced by Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available for the PlayStation 5.

Sam – with companions by his side – sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction.

Composer Ludvig Forsell Previews the Experimental Music of ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ [Interview]
Image
Fans of the first Death Stranding are still humming the game’s soundtrack to themselves nearly six years after its original release, so it makes sense that the sequel to this post-apocalyptic epic promises to deliver even more musical thrills when it releases later this month.

That’s why we decided to reach out to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach composer and frequent Hideo Kojima collaborator Ludvig Forsell so we could find out what to expect from the sequel’s music. Presented below is our exclusive chat with Ludvig Forsell.

Bloody Disgusting: First of all, I’m a huge fan of your work. A Phantom Pain was my feel-good song of the summer back in 2015, and the Boy Kills World soundtrack kicked all kinds of ass, so thank you for making time for us.

Ludvig Forsell: No problem, happy to be here!

Bill Skarsgård Returns As Pennywise the Clown In It: Welcome to Derry Trailer
Image
There are four guarantees in life: death, taxes, reboots and creepy clowns hanging out in the sewers of Stephen King stories. And yes, he’s back. Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry, and the first trailer is here to ruin your sleep schedule this week. After a Hollywood run that includes Eternals, Barbarian, John Wick: Chapter 4, Boy Kills World, The Crow, Nosferatu, and Locked, you’d think Skarsgård might take a break from playing disturbing characters. But here is back as the character who made him a household name. And we’re not complaining. Set before the events of It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), the prequel series dives deeper into the cursed history of Derry, Maine—the creepiest fictional small town in America. ‘Warrior’ Star Andrew Koji to Lead Indie Action Heist Film ‘High Stakes Holiday’
Image
Andrew Koji, best known for “Bullet Train” and the Max series “Warrior,” will next star in the cast of an indie action and heist film called “High Stakes Holiday.”

The film is in the vein of “Ocean’s 11” meets “Home Alone” and follows a jaded ex-MI6 agent turned security guard (Koji) who teams up with two sharp-witted sisters on vacation in Las Vegas after they get caught in the middle of a high-stakes heist. The trio must tag team to outsmart a cunning international thief and save a priceless diamond gauntlet — just in time for Christmas.

“High Stakes Holiday” also stars actual sisters Madeleine McGraw, best known for “The Black Phone,” and Violet McGraw, best known for “M3GAN,” as the two on-screen sisters who must team up with Koji’s character. Azizi Donnelly, Jack Griffo, Struggler Jennings, and Brynne Kurland also co-star.

Bill Skarsgård Thriller Debuts On Rt With Score That Continues Nosferatu Star's Post-Crow Hot Streak
Image
Bill Skarsgård has continued his Rotten Tomatoes hot streak with his latest thriller. The actor, who is the son of Mamma Mia! and Thor star Stellan Skarsgård and the brother of True Blood and Big Little Lies' Alexander Skarsgård, had his breakout role when he played Pennywise in 2017's It and its 2019 sequel It: Chapter Two. Since then, he has taken on a number of roles in prominent projects including playing Zeitgeist in Deadpool 2, Kro in Eternals, and Marquis Vincent de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4.

Recent Bill Skarsgård movies have had a scattershot response from critics. While the twisty horror-thriller Barbarian (92%) and the action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4 (94%) earned him two Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores in a row in 2022 and 2023 respectively, he followed that by starring in a pair of 2024 action movies that earned splats, namely Boy Kills World (58%) and The Crow (21%). However, he closed out...

Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding movie in the works with Hammerstone Studios
Image
Hideo Kojima is bringing his signature storytelling to the big screen. Following the recent announcement of Death Stranding 2 at The Game Awards, Kojima Productions has officially partnered with Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce a film adaptation of Death Stranding.

Per Deadline, Hammerstone, led by Alex Lebovici, will fully finance the film, with Kojima himself producing alongside Lebovici. Additional production support will come from Kojima Productions US, with Allan Ungar serving as an executive producer. While details on the plot remain under wraps, the film promises to expand on the Death Stranding universe, introducing new elements and characters rather than directly adapting the game’s storyline.

While video game adaptations have historically been hit-or-miss, Kojima and Lebovici are setting out to redefine the genre. Unlike the typical blockbuster-style adaptations, they promise something more intimate and grounded.

'Locked' Could be the Next Big Thriller with Anthony Hopkins and Bill Skarsgård
Image
Some pairings are a match made in heaven (or hell) and this one feels like one that should've happened long ago. Anthony Hopkins, the Academy Award-winning actor who still gives us chills as Hannibal Lecter, and Bill Skarsgård, an actor who is no stranger to weird and offbeat characters, are joining forces in a film produced by horror maestro Sam Raimi, and it has the potential to be a real treat for genre fans.

The trailer for a new film called Locked just dropped (via EW), and it looks like one hell of a ride courtesy of director David Yarvovesky (Brightburn). The film follows a thief named Eddie (Skarsgård) who is down on his luck when he decides to break into an SUV that is parked in an empty lot. The tables are turned on Eddie when the SUV's owner, William (Hopkins), traps Eddie inside and reveals himself to be...

‘Flight Risk’ Review: Mark Wahlberg Hams It Up in Mel Gibson’s Basic Airplane Thriller
Image
It’s weird to find an animal outside of its natural habitat. A penguin floating around the International Space Station instead of waddling through the Antarctic. A kangaroo in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles instead of hopping across the Outback. A skunk in the White House instead of… actually, no, that one fits. Anyway, it’s also weird to find a mediocre straight-to-dvd action movie inside of a major movie theater, instead of in the bargain bin at a Big Lots in 2010.

All of that is to say that “Flight Risk” is a bit of a novelty. It’s a sometimes competent, mostly not, low-concept aerial thriller about a U.S. Marshal escorting a mob witness in a tiny chartered plane over the wilds of Alaska. A few minutes into the flight they figure out the pilot is actually an assassin with an embarrassing haircut. For the rest...

The Oscars Disqualify 'Bird,' 'Madame Web,' and More for Best Picture in 2025
Image
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aren't taking any prisoners this year, as they've just announced that, of the 323 films eligible for Oscar nominations this year, a whopping 116 of those have already been excluded from the Best Picture category. Throughout 2024, fans were accruing their own lists of potential Best Picture nominees. But, your list could be drastically cut short by the new ruling from The Academy.

There are some potentially heavy hitters among the 116 listed by The Academy. Ben Taylor's moving drama about the discovery of IVF, Joy, Anna Kendrick's directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, and the Barry Keoghan-led drama, Bird, all failed to meet the necessary criteria from The Academy to qualify. The official ruling states:

"Feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago,...

More Than a Third of Oscar-Qualifying Films This Year Are Not Eligible for Best Picture
Image
There are 323 feature films eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday, though a whopping 36% of those – 116 feature films – are not eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category.

The discrepancy between films that have qualified for the top category and films that are eligible in other categories comes either because the filmmakers did not attempt to qualify – likely the case for several documentary, animated or international films. Or because of new eligibility rules that require Best Picture candidates to meet additional benchmarks for diversity and inclusion. This is the second year that Representation and Inclusion Standards (Raise) have been enforced, though they did not appear to disqualify any serious contenders in the category.

Among titles excluded from Best Picture consideration are Andrea Arnold’s “Bird,” starring Barry Keoghan, Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut “Woman of the Year,” Michael Keaton’s directorial debut “Knox Goes Away,...

Virgin River’s Very First Spinoff Show Just Quietly Got A Pilot Episode On Netflix
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Virgin River season 6!

During the newest season of Virgin River, one episode serves as a backdoor pilot to the first-ever spinoff set within the Virgin River universe. Since its 2019 debut, Virgin River has gained a significant fanbase, leading to six seasons, with season 7 already on the way. The show follows Mel, a nurse practitioner, who moves to the titular town and falls in love with Jack Sheridan, a marine turned bar owner.

Virgin River had the potential for different lead characters, considering the books by Robyn Carr switch main characters, but Netflix has chosen to focus instead on Mel and Jack. However, this leaves plenty of room for spinoffs set within the same town. Luckily, one is already in the works, and Virgin River season 6 provided it with a backdoor pilot that helps audiences know what to expect.

5 Best Fights In 2024 Movies
Image
From Paul and Feyd’s climactic knife fight in Dune: Part Two to Lucius and Macrinus’ climactic swordfight in Gladiator II, the movies of 2024 have brought a bunch of great fight scenes. A good fight scene can really invigorate an audience. It’s a chance for stunt choreographers to get creative, and it can be a crowd-pleasing moment when a noble hero violently triumphs over a despicable villain.

2024 has delivered both gruesome, blood-soaked fight scenes, like the nightclub sequence in Monkey Man, and hilarious slapstick set-pieces, like the cartoonish saloon brawl in Hundreds of Beavers. There were even great fight scenes in non-action movies, like the body horror opus The Substance. From the final showdown in Boy Kills World to the multiversal mayhem of Deadpool & Wolverine, 2024’s movies have been jam-packed with well-staged fight scenes.

Gus Van Sant to direct Dead Man’s Wire
Bill Skarsgård at an event for Nine Days (2020)
Bill Skarsgård will star in the crime thriller Dead Man’s Wire, which leapfrogs director Gus Van Sant’s planned collaboration with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Gus Van Sant hasn’t directed a film in several years now, with the American filmmaker most recently having made several episodes of Feud: Capote Vs The Swans for the small screens.

A few months ago, we heard that the director of My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting would be reuniting with the stars of the latter film, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, to make Killing Gawker, an adaptation of Ryan Holiday’s book, Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, And The Anatomy of Intrigue.

That project will chart the real-life tale of how billionaire libertarian Peter Thiel used Hulk Hogan as his proxy to sue gossip website Gawker out of existence after it released a sex tape of the legendary wrestler.

Bill Skarsgård's Rotten Tomatoes Cold Streak Is Officially Over Thanks To Acclaimed Upcoming Horror Movie
Image
Bill Skarsgård's string of disappointing movies on Rotten Tomatoes is being rectified by his upcoming acclaimed horror movie - Nosferatu. The upcoming story of Nosferatu is a remake of the horror classic from 1922 and directed by Robert Eggers. Robert Eggers' highly-ranked movies of the 2010s and 2020s have seen him become one of the more acclaimed horror directors working in Hollywood today, causing many to highly anticipate Nosferatu.

One of the big reasons for this anticipation is the actor portraying the titular character, Bill Skarsgård. Skarsgård's many horror movies and shows have made him somewhat of a modern veteran in the genre, with the actor capable of committing himself entirely to dark roles in a way man cannot. However, recent movies have underperformed critically for Skarsgård despite his performances never dipping, meaning Nosferatu's strong reviews have finally broken the cold streak.

Nosferatu Gives Bill Skarsgård His First Fresh...

What Happened To Kung Fury 2? The Real Reason David Sandberg's Movie Isn't Out Yet
Image
If you were an Internet 1.0 denizen, and/or you count yourself among the fans of geek culture, then 2015's "Kung Fury" is probably a favorite of yours. The short film written, directed by, and starring Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, is a clever and vibrant homage to '80s action movies. A sort of collision between a meme, an Adult Swim special, a parody film, and a fan film (complete with its own underdog Kickstarter crowdfunding origin story) that beat the odds, "Kung Fury" features the involvement of celebrities like Jorma Taccone (of The Lonely Island) and David Hasselhoff, lending a bit of legitimate star power to what otherwise may have been seen as a curious goof. All this is to say that "Kung Fury" is thoroughly delightful, and its short length only helps make the prospect of a sequel more interesting.

As it turns out, "Kung Fury 2" became way...

'Cross' Rotten Tomatoes Score Reveals if New Amazon Series Crumbles Under Investigation
Image
The reviews for the new Prime Video series, Cross, are now in, with both critics and audiences building their cases and establishing whether the crime thriller series folds under investigation...or if it's the new Reacher. Based on James Paterson's bestselling "Alex Cross" novels, the main character uses forensic psychology to delve into the psyches of killers, identify the culprits, and bring murderers to justice. Cross stars Aldis Hodge and Isaiah Mustafa, and premiered on Thursday, November 14.

The series has now garnered a 70% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and 69% on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews seem evenly mixed, with many praising the story and the central performance. MovieWeb's Greg Archer wrote viewers, "be prepared for fun."

"Prepare for fun. Be surprised by the plot twists. Enjoy Aldis Hodge every step of the way in a commanding portrayal of a man at odds with work and himself. And heres to a third season order.

'Protect All of the Characters': Aldis Hodge & Isaiah Mustafa on Cross TV Series
Image
Prime Video's Cross might be named after Alex Cross, but the man who plays him doesn't see the show that way. Black Adam star Aldis Hodge has stepped into the role created by novelist James Patterson and originated on the screen by the iconic Morgan Freeman. It's a departure from the other TV parts he's known for, but he's collaborating with his colleagues and costars -- most notably Isaiah Mustafa as Cross's longtime best friend and fellow detective, John Sampson.

Cross and Sampson are each other's rocks to lean on as the disturbing season unfolds, and Cbr spoke to both Hodge and Boy Kills World actor Mustafa about the dynamic between their characters, which is also the foundation of the series. Find out the one scene that struck them as their most impressive. Plus, Hodge opened up about how he sees the "responsibility" of Cross -- both in front of and behind the camera.

Nosferatu First Reactions Declare the Horror Outing Oscar-Worthy
Image
Do we have a modern horror classic on our hands? Director Robert Eggers returns to the genre he has already shown an affinity for in the likes of The Witch with Nosferatu, which has now screened for critics who have since taken to X/Twitter to share their reactions. And it sounds like the filmmaker has done it again, and then some.

We begin with Courtney Howard, who declares that Nosferatu goes harder than any other horror movie so far this year, with Bill Skarsgrd delivering a performance that is nothing less than nightmare fuel.

"Robert Eggers #Nosferatu goes Harder than any other horror film this year. Holy fuck. A gorgeous grotesquerie of dread-infused terrors & a divine dark delight. Bill Skarsgrds Count Orlok is pure sinister nightmare fuel. Lily Rose Depp & Nicholas Hoults best work to date."

The praise for the cast continues courtesy of The Playlists Gregory Ellwood, who thinks several of the stars,...

Recasting Freddy Krueger For A Nightmare On Elm Street: 9 Actors Who Can Replace Robert Englund
Image
Though no one has been confirmed, several possible actors could replace Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Englund portrayed Kreuger in eight different feature film installments of the Elm Street franchise, as well as the television show, Freddy's Nightmares. Though Englund has retired from acting as Freddy, due to his age and the role demands, no other actor is yet set to replace the legend. There hasn't been an official update to the franchise in over a decade, with Englund's last appearance as Krueger being a guest role in The Goldbergs in 2018.

Unlike other slasher killers, like Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger speaks a lot, giving him quite the personality, full of iconic one-liners. This means finding a replacement for the villain is difficult, since fans of the franchise have a very clear idea of Freddy's personality. Freddy's personality is also established to...

The Carpenter trailer brings Mma, heavy metal, and Jesus into one movie
Daz Crawford, Kameron Krebs, Kaulin Krebs, Jeff Dickamore, and Aurora Florence in The Carpenter (2023)
It’s not every day you see a biblical movie which mixes Mma, heavy metal, and Jesus Christ, but the trailer for The Carpenter offers just that. That’s… certainly unique.

The Carpenter stars Kameron Krebs as “an adopted Viking orphan who becomes a carpenter’s apprentice to Jesus. The orphan, Oren, fights as a side hustle. His experience training as a carpenter with Jesus as his mentor changes his lifestyle.” Krebs serves as an executive producer on the project and also co-wrote the script alongside his father, Kenny Krebs, and director Garrett Batty. Despite the biblical backdrop, The Carpenter will feature a contemporary soundtrack of heavy metal music during the fight sequences, including tracks from Godsmack, Drowning Pool and Motley Crue.

James Patterson's iconic Washington D.C. detective and forensic psychologist is back in a big way with Cross.
