seen it once, will see it again.

Either the writing was superb or the actors were great, or both. Whichever it was, I loved the movie. I like how each character was revealed ever so slightly all the way till the end. Additionally, I enjoyed all the small side stories of each characters life outside of the church. It definitely brought it all together. Nothing felt dragged out, and I couldn't wait to see how it all unfolded.

I'm recommending it to my friends and family to see and probably go with them one more time to see it. Hayseed is a nice local town mystery that is well written and the characters are perfectly portrayed very well. They felt like someone we could know.

Pretty Exciting All Tge Way Through

It was more than i had expected- more twists and turns per character that all came together. Every two minutes you think you've figured it out and you DIDN'T. The ensemble really worked together- their quirks and mannerisms together made it more kitchy and clever, nobody felt out of place. The editing made it really sing. The imperfections of natural lighting made it more lifelike, and that's refreshing to see. It made it seem more natural because you're seeing people outside, watching them as they speak as if you were right in front of them. That added to the small town impact of it all because it pulls the viewer in more than being annoying or fake looking. You felt like you lived there.

Thrilling and captivating

Hayseed reels you in from the opening minutes with the mystery at the center of its story about a murdered priest in a small Michigan town. It's impossible to choose a favorite performances amongst a cast of standouts literally top to bottom.

Writer/director Travis Burgess clearly knows how to tell a compelling story, and the entire production team succeeds in crafting a world you want to spend time in as an audience member. Being from a small Michigan town myself, I felt like I knew several of the characters, which only made the story more engrossing. And no spoilers, but the ending is *chef's kiss*

Seek this one out however you can!

A fun who-done-it

Hayseed is a fun and compelling mystery seasoned with humor. You won't waste your time with this one and you won't guess who-done-it. The lead actors are top notch and so is the supporting cast, great acting from top to bottom. Filmed in Michigan, it has an authentic midwestern feeling of presence. You will never guess that this film was made during the height of the Covid epidemic. That the film survived is a real tribute to writer director Burgess. We knew nothing about the movie, when seeing it at the Black Bear Film Festival and were quite taken with it. It has a dumb title which no way represents the film. Ignore the title. Sit back with popcorn, a beverage of choice, and enjoy.

One of the best who-dun-it movies I've seen in a long time!

Going into this movie I had very little knowledge of the premise and characters, or even really the genre. Man was I impressed. It not only has a solid mystery plot with some great red herrings and plot twists but the performances were top notch also. Everyone played their parts perfectly. The dark humor felt very organic and not forced and the dramatic scenes were very well done. We have been friends with Nolan North for a couple years and it's great seeing him play a different type of character than we're used to. Bill Sage commands every scene he's in even when he's somewhat defeated in parts. And Ismenia Mendes absolutely rocked in the "lead" role! The rest of the cast of characters were always entertaining and fun to guess their involvement in the bigger picture. The music and editing can't be overlooked either as both were done extremely well. A must see if it's playing in your area or you can stream it!!! 10/10.

Great story and acting

If you are a fan of whodunnit murder mysteries, you will definitely enjoy this movie. This movie has a great storyline about the murder of a small town priest, with twists and turns that keep surprising you until the end. This movie has absolutely EXCELLENT acting all around with lots of interesting, well-developed characters played by a large ensemble of veteran actors. It also had a lot of funny moments peppered throughout the film. I also appreciated the authentic, small town locations and the nod to detective TV shows.

This is a fun and entertaining movie that is also family-friendly.

Highly recommend!

The Perfect Murder Mystery

There is something incredibly special about Hayseed. I love murder mysteries. This film kept me engaged, reeling me in with it's plot twists and turns. It's humourous yet realistically deals with the tragedy of losing a staple in the community while trying to uncover the truth of what happened.

The writing was phenomenal and the cast was spectacular. The cast did a great job capturing the different types of personalities you'd expect to find in a small Michigan Midwestern town.

Travis, (the writer & director), nailed the story and genre while delivering something unique and original in the creation of this film. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys whodunnit murder mysteries. What I also loved about this film was that despite the subject matter it's family friendly.

A fun who done it!

I just watched Hayseed for a third time and each time I'm surprised to see another twist in the plot. It's just a fun movie to see. I was wondering throughout who did it, as my hunches changed many times over during the film. It's a good combination of comedy and intrigue, reminds me of the show Columbo. The movie clips along at a good pace too. There wasn't anytime where it dragged on as I was collecting clues. The fact that it was filmed in my home state of Michigan was also a bonus for me. It's amazing that this is the director/writer's first full feature film. I encourage everyone to see this film!

Surprisingly good indie film

This independent, neo-noir whodunnit set in a small Michigan town is was a pleasant surprise!

A cast of mostly unfamiliar actors did a great job, portraying their quirky parts with deft comedy and drama with a smirk, along with the occasional menacing touch. Their fine acting gives dimension to characters often reduced to cardboard-cutout stereotypes. Well written and directed, as well. It has the feel of a film done on a shoestring budget, yet the quality surpasses many big budget or streaming mystery movies.

It is fun with a real murder mystery that grabs your attention and holds it right to the snarky end. It is hard to recommend this little film highly enough.

Gripping story, amazing characters

Hayseed does so many things right. It checks all the boxes of a classic Whodunit. Investigative dialogue with a jazzy backing track. A puzzle that you feel invested in solving along with the protagonist, played by a sensational Bill Sage.

By far, my favorite part of the movie is the characters. Each one so well captured and portrayed, they could have their own trading cards. The second watch of this movie was even more enjoyable than the first, despite knowing the answers to the mystery, because the characters were so fun to revisit.

Hayseed is a delightful watch and I would gladly recommend this to anyone.

Laid back film noire

Writer/director Travis Burgess sets himself a difficult task in Hayseed. It's both a comedy set in a small town in Michigan filled with eccentric characters and a mystery whodunnit. In order for it to work we have to be amused by the proceedings while also making sure that the mystery keeps us guessing and that the resolution makes sense. Fortunately for us, he manages to pull off this juggling act.

If you are looking for CGI and car chases and shoot outs, pass this one up. But if you would like a low-key, laid back, black and white mystery, check this one out.

I'm not not sure why I picked this one on a cold January morning but I'm glad I did.

Check it out.

Super smart and super fun!

Alright, so Hayseed totally surprised me-in the best way. I thought I was just settling in for a cute, quirky small-town mystery, and instead I got this wild, twisty whodunit that had me second-guessing everything right up until the end. Seriously, more twists than a country backroad. It kicks off with a murder (duh), but instead of some gritty city detective vibe, we're dropped into this sleepy Midwest town full of people who feel weirdly familiar-like folks you'd run into at a church supper or maybe a county fair. The characters are hilarious, super specific, and somehow still totally believable. The humor is clever without trying too hard, and there's this low-key satire thing going on the whole time that really works. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but the way the mystery unravels? So satisfying. Every time I thought, "Okay, I've got this," the movie was like, "Yeah... no you don't." And when the big reveal finally dropped, it all clicked. Super smart and super fun.
