This is a forty-years-later remake of the British thriller Tödliche Ferien (1970). The original is set in France and has two British actresses as the leads, whereas this is set in Argentina and has two American actresses as the leads.
The plot has many similarities with the 2004 disappearance of Swiss cyclist Annagreth Würgler, who vanished during a bike ride in Argentina after separating from her friend, and, as of more than two decades later, has not been found.
The girls visit a bar called Bar La Paloma. Paloma is the name of director Marcos Efron's older sister.
