Paramount, Happy Madison's Summer School reboot lands scribes Bryan Shukoff and Kevin Chesley The remake of the 1987 film which starred Mark Harmon, is being produced by Happy Madison's Adam Sandler. Variety reports that it's unknown at this time whether Sandler will star in the comedy which told of a gym teacher who's forced to cancel his plans for the summer and teach remedial English to kids. Shukoff and Chesley wrote three episodes of MTV's The Hard Times of Rj Berger comedy, MANswers and Atom TV, as well as Paramount's From Mia With Love project, currently in development.

Sundance Film Festival entries are historically known for being more idiosyncratic than mainstream fare. All the same, the 2012 breakout flick Robot and Frank is pretty unconventional, even by indie cinema standards.

Oscar-nominee Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) stars in Robot and Frank as… well, Frank, a retiree living in a “near future,” which is not so different from the year 2012 – albeit, it has robots and vehicles that look like a cross between a Smart Car and a Moped (among other pieces of sci-fi technology). Frank’s grown son and daughter (James Mardsen and Liv Tyler) decide to not move him to a retirement home; instead, they purchase their old man a robotic caretaker (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard).

The first trailer for the indie comedy Robot and Frank has been released. The buddy comedy stars Frank Langella as a retired jewel thief who seeks to resume his criminal ways with the help of a companion robot, voiced by Peter Sarsgaard. Steve and Matt caught the film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and both of them thought it was great (you can read Matt’s review here). The trailer definitely seems sweet and warm-hearted, but I wonder if they’ve revealed too much of the plot. I sincerely hope that’s not the case, as the premise sounds neat and I’m eager to experience the film for myself. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The CW has started developing a new show called Swordfighting. The half-hour comedy focuses on two couples who are best friends and neighbours, Deadline reports. However, complications arise when the two wives confess that they have fallen in love with each other. Atom.com is extending its reach within the broader network of properties owned by its big media parent Viacom, with news today that The Atom Show, a new 15-minute “best of Atom.com” series that will air on cable network MTV2 on Friday nights at 11:15 Pm. Also announced was that Comedy Central has picked up a third season of the similar format half-hour Atom TV, which airs at 2:30 Am on Mondays. “We are thrilled to return to Comedy Central and to start spending our Friday nights with MTV2,” said Scott Roesch, Atom’s general manager. “Playing on both networks is going to give us access to an even bigger audience seeking original comedy on every platform.” It’s part of the more fluid model of talent development that we’re seeing out of Viacom, one that uses Atom as an incubator for budding comedians and their web originals...
