Very boring poorly scripted movie!

Very boring poorly scripted movie! It's all about long distance relationship in an arranged marriage trying to make marriage work. This app isn't accepting any ratings below 6 currently while rating. What a cheap strategy!

My ratings 3/10.

Post marriage uneasy period of adjustment

A newly wed south Indian couple is forced to carry on a long distance relationship as hubby has to move from orthodox temple town Madurai to a happening, modern cyber city Bengaluru. The sweet nothings through the lap top does not help to keep the relationship live. There are the usual strict elder males and curious aunties. To make things worse, the IT firm in the big bad Bengaluru city where our hero( Abimanyu Dasani) works, accepts only bachelors due to heavy and time sensitive work load. ( The super strict boss makes this amply clear in his speech to the rookies). The new bride ( Sanya Malhotra) makes unsuccessful efforts to join him and soon the misunderstandings and the friction begin. When the communication between them breaks down he ruefully says that "communication is like oxygen in a relationship".

This movie is a case of post marriage slow burn and uneasy period of adjustment which at times tests the patience of audience with its slow pace, sweetness and excessive simplicity. Yes excessive sweetness and simplicity can be a pain at times. The movie focusses a bit too much on the orthodox south Indian family and the atmosphere of the sleepy temple town of Madurai to a point of distraction. The narrative is painfully slow most of the time and the misery of the confused, timid ,and awkward couple does not help in any way. (At times it looks like an idli- sambar mix gone wrong.) The good point of the movie is the pleasing display of romance between a pretty heroine and a handsome shy hero, both trying desperately to make the marriage work. The aspect of Sanya being a crazy and diehard fan of Rajnikanth is shown very well. The movie has lovely music and excellent cinematography which brings out Madurai beautifully.

A Delightful Watch!

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a sweet and charming film with the concept of arranged marriages and long distance relationships in the background. The refreshing treatment and southern setting of the film is what sets it apart from the rest in the same genre.

The lead pair of Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani are such a delight to watch. Sanya just lits up the screen every time she appears in the film. Abhimanyu's innocence is adorable. The film has also got some lovely music. All in all this one is recommended for all the romance lovers as it has its heart in the right place.

Great performances, Sweet relationship but.....

This film is about Meenakshi and Sunder whose cute happy marriage life gets affected when Sunder shifts alone to a new city for his job.

Lets come to the point.

GOOD :-

1. Brilliant performances. Both Sanya and Abhi look very nice and have made sure their interactions don't get boring and their conversations are sweet . I really loved that part when Meenakshi was talking to Sunder's dress that was so sweet.

2. Humor wherever present works well.

3. Music works well with the film.

Now the NEGATIVES:-

N number of flaws/no-sense scenes --> First, how bizzare was the way the leads got engaged . Mtlb kuch bhi? Second, There is a song in a train that looked cringy . Tamils singing a pure Hindi song is the last thing i see in a Tamil background film. Third, who TF makes a person sit under a dangerous fan just to watch it fall on him? Fourth, bachelors like Sunder living in an apartment that looks like some CEO's apartments. How man? Fifth, Meenakshi randomly starting to dance on the road, stuff like this happens only in films.

Overall, sweet couple relation but bogged down by so many flaws and inconsistencies that cant be ignored at all however can be given a one time watch.

The storyline is too good, except some bugs

I have given it 7 star only because they have put some scenes in their film that are unbelievable. In this 21st century, do you guys really that there is company which only allows singles to work i their company and that too in Bangalore. There is a girl next to you who is your wife and you are not having physical relationship with her beacuse you need to do packing. Comeon guys you should have come with some believe to reasons . Dont consider us fools.

Nice soft and light movie

Kudos to the new comer and the team of Meenakshi Sundareshwar. It was a very nice light movie to watch. This movie was reminding me of 2 States, though there is no similarity in story but the sweet grip of the movie keep us holding to go till end :)

South Indians got it wrong

I see too many people complaining about the movie not being true to South India - please just stop it. Bollywood/Hollywood basically any film maker is never going to showcase a place exactly how it is - they are trying to make a movie, bring their own perspective, characters and vision to it. They are not making a documentary. If you want culture represented accurately, go to a Museum or pickup a Book or go watch a play. Also, the fact that the actors speak or don't speak a particular language makes zero difference in the movie. Stop with your politics.

That being said, why the movie doesn't work is simply because the script sucks. Plain and simple. There's really not a lot going on in the story. Sanya's amazing acting and the brilliant visuals hide the fact that this is a very badly written movie with various scenes bound together incoherently. The script seems like it was inspired over a Whatsapp chat by some uncles trying to pass time.

The concept of long distance relationships and family is not explored well starting with the underlying premise - "Only single people are allowed to work in my company." Well not only is that not legal, there's no way you can ever enforce that. So completely illogical to begin with. Secondly, the fact that we can't stay together in Bangalore because family members might drop by makes zero sense either. If they drop by as they just did later in the movie, you just go home to see them after office. What's the problem with that? How would they really know? Simple to solve problems are brought up repeatedly and the characters just foolishly roll with it with no conflict at all.

Overall, 10/10 for Sanya's acting, 10/10 for visuals, 10/10 for the concept, but 0/10 for the script and that's what kills the movie for me.

BE BTECH,'s BSC (College and After College student)

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a must watch for 90's kids. The ambience will relate you of Malgudi days, chanting, mantras and vedic temples will take you to your childhood days. What boys family does before going to girls family. Life before and after marriage. Fun part :- Ghar - Ghar, Doctor- Doctor and Chor-Police 😉 ... Refraining myself from sharing spoilers.

Engineers life in bangalore! That is all, I can share.

PLEASE GO & WATCH.....

Perfect movie for newly wed couples

Great movie. Great cast. Full of romance and comedy. Must watch movie for all newly married couples. Enjoy the movie. Sanya Malhotra was superb. Only negative point is that it could have been a little crisp and shorter.

A long distance rom-com with no sense.

Long distance relationships aren't hard for Indians. Here, people wait years to meet their loved ones. This was only Banglore and Madurai. A 7 hour bus trip is all that's needed for their relationship to work. But they kind of want to use the Hollywood story of long distance relationships in India.

And the language is disrespectful to any sane person. It's a story about two person from Tamil Nadu. But all of them speaks Hindi and broken Tamil every now and then. I don't know why bollywood keeps doing this. But stop trying to show Tamil culture if you don't know anything about it. At least don't cast non Tamilians as Tamilians. Even if you do, get a dubbing artist to give voice for them instead of making them speak a language when they can't. And stop using Rajinikanth. Just stop.

There were some good moments in the movie, but overall, it's cringey.

Madurai - Bangalore!

Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a story of a long distance relationship, of a husband and wife, Sundareshwar and Meenakshi. Story was nice. Best part of this movie is, I would to say it's scenic beauty and simplicity. The background and the scene locations were so beautifully added keeping in mind the traditions and culture of the people living in South India. I would call this picture a visual treat. Apart from this, the combination of English and Tamil, I guess made the picture more interesting and easy to connect.

Misleading reviews

Its a fun ride which derailed very fast. As usual Sanya Malhotra killed her role, so did abhimanyu dasani but the script was so lazy and sluggish that you will start losing your nerve. Bollywood needs better love stories than this, I am just angry on the fake reviews.

Could have been a really good film

I would give 10/10 for the acting, cinematography, music and the first half of the film. 2nd half lacks pace and becomes a bit boring. Abhimanyu and Sanya are really good and make this a watchable film.

The heartbreaking experience from a long -distance relationship.

Film about the relationship of newlyweds in the separation. The scene with role-playing games gives a comic attitude, but does not fit into the plot of the film. The mistres's mistake on the bride-show, which the grandfather corrects, seeing the divine will. Effort of the main character to hide the fact of marriage to get the prestigious work in the IT industry and the desire of the wife to break the relationship because of the resentment for her husband .The Happy end -reunion of the family in cinema theatre.

A movie with a simple story

The movie is nothing special. No twist and turn just a simple story. The ending is easily predictable. But if you have free time in hand and want to watch something simple and sweet then go for it....

Stereotyped, awkward, patriarchal and much more, please read below

I am going to list down everything wrong with the movie: 1. The state of Tamil Nadu speaks the language of Tamil. Its extremely offensive to portray Tamilians using Hindi as their first language. Netflix needs to understand the politics of North India's push to make Hindi the national language and South India's fight against it, it has been going on for half a decade.

2. All the rooms in Tamil Nadu are lit up in a sepia tint, even software companies. Also all ladies in Tamil Nadu wears traditional with flowers in the hair. Even interviewers in software companies. Height of stereotyping by Johar and party.

3. This is a celebration of the arranged marriage culture. The boy's family end up going to the wrong girl's house, they are trying to leave when they realized their mistake. But an old uncle blows a conch shell and announces the marriage is fixed. Everyone is happy, nobody bothered to ask the couple for consent.

4. Seems a large family does not understand young couples have sex, everyone walks into bedroom and a cute music is played. What is cute about sex illiteracy?

5. The patriarch (boy's dad) announces decisions all through the movie, everyone falls in line, it's considered normal apparently.

6. The boy gets a job at a company where they employs only bachelors. Seems girlfriends are also not allowed. Apparently this is also normal according to the makers of this movie.

7. The protagonist has the brilliant idea of sharing a quarter whiskey between 3 people by making each take a small sip, look at the stars and shake their torso. Have been drinking for a good long time, its news to me.

Beyond this I stopped paying attention and started playing with my phone. I am sure I missed a lot of juicy bits.

Nice to see Hindu tradition with vegetarian family

A good pro hindu movie after long time with vegetarian family. But concept is weak of long distance relationship of husband wife where wife is unexplained sad all time. Also all traditions looks like forcefully acted, no enthusiasm and smiley faces.

Very good direction with bad script

Some of the actors feels wasted here as story doesn't make sense at all. I love the overall direction. Some of the scenes like kidnapping are hilarious, which filmed with awesome direction and acting and because of that only it feels like if the storyline would have been stronger this film could have been big success. Overall it's a time pass movie.
