I'm so beyond high school but I really like to watch movies that makes me feel I'm young again and miss it high school is always high school over the ages. Regardless of students high straighten close in the movie.
The movie's Idea might not be new, but it's well made not like same " high school " cheap nowadays movies.
I like how they portrait hatred, and how being busy destroying someone, can actually ends up destroying you or your future.
I have to admit that the costumes were incredible and colorful well designed and well wore, even though they are not usual high school uniforms but I would love to wear it
Well done and was nice to watch I highly recommend it.

This was a nice movie. I really loved the performance by both the leading actors. This is the first movie that i am watching staring maya hawke, and God she looks so much like her mother uma thurman. The movie really touches on some social issues in schools and of life in general, but saying that would be a spoiler. Amazing camera work and production design. The movie gives a 80s retro vibe, I liked it very much. The writing was nice, especially the plot twists were revealled very smothly and also impacts us to an extent. The music was nice, gave the movie a youthful vibe and was also fun to listen.
The issue I had with the movie is the climax. Felt a bit rushed. The issues got solved pretty quick. They could have improved the writing in the climax.

So I wasn't expecting to watch this but apparently it was a really good Gen Z movie so I was curious. There were scenes that weren't meant to be funny that I laughed at a lot. Also, not a groundbreaking concept discovery but different generations really aren't so different, just use different language and gadgets because about an hour in it stops being a Gen z movie and just a gaudy high school movie. At some point thought the movie was over but there was still a chunk of time left and it only got better with the twists, the last one not so much but it needed a happy ended. This may not start out as a movie for everyone but it is way better than I expected. It's a pretty good watch especially if you're expecting it not to be, reminds me of late 90's early 2000's teen movies.

Double crossing, double dealing, all the way, with treachery and betrayal the mainstay, you'll be swindled and hoodwinked, no time to ponder, or to think, the tables turning, bridges burning, with a large kink.
The desperate and despicable depths the ladies of Rosehill Country Day High School go to in their quest for one-upmanship, presented in a far from inelegant way that captures your attention and leaves you transfixed at their propensity to cheat, trick, deceive and mislead - in the most spectacular of ways and with very little concern for the consequences. I only wish things had been this exciting when I was at school.

I don't expect much from Netflix teen movies these days, but this one exceeded my expectations. It has a target audience, so if you're outside of that, you might not love it, but it was a lot more enjoyable and had more surprises plot-wise than I expected. Plus some fun homages to 90s/2000s teen movies. Definitely a notch above a lot of other Netflix movies. There were moments I rolled my eyes and THOUGHT it was going someplace stupid, but then it went in a new direction that kept things interesting. If you're in the mood for a (slightly) dark teen comedy then this movie is a very solid choice.

So, I'm old enough to have watched Clueless when it came out. And it's precedent, The Heathers. The GOAT. And then, SMG?!!! The CI reference isn't lost me, but you gotta be a certain age to get it. It was also a classic. And I mostly picked this movie late tonight knowing I could make it stop with the flick of my remote if it sucked. But this was surprisingly fun. It was smartly done. And PLOT TWIST! That elevated it. Poignant. VERY poignant. And even as I write this yet ANOTHER plot twist! And I authentically laughed out loud more than twice. And the soundtrack was fun + I was a Peace Corps volunteer so loved the shout out. And when I googled a little on the movie I learned some interesting history. So for once, I didn't ruin my own Saturday night by picking a crappy movie yet again. Yay me.

We loved this. Like Clueless meets Cruel Intentions with some 10 Things I Hate About You and She's All That rolled in. They get backstabbing sabotaging teenaged girl relationships very right. All the crazy outfits were so much fun. The soundtrack was full of a great mix of modern music and 90's music. I loved that they included Sarah Michelle Gellar as the headmaster. Sophie Turner has a fun small part. I wasn't familiar with the younger actors, but I thought they all did a great job, no duds in this cast. I would definitely watch this again and I'd recommend it as a good time to anyone who has 90's teen nostalgia!
If you're older than 19, this probably wont be for you. This is a movie for, and seems like it was created by, a bunch of high schoolers. It was your typical pretentious obnoxious spoiled teenagers in their typical environment. As a comedy, I don't think anyone laughed, but there were plenty of eye-rolls and cringes. The story was predictable, and even the twists weren't anything unexpected. Even with the decent pacing, the two-hour long runtime dragged out and felt like three plus hours. This film felt like it was outdated and something we've seen before many times. It's a generous 6/10 for the decent performances and cinematography.

...but turned out so lost. Plot twist after plot twist, characters changing constantly, and I'm still not one hundred percent sure what finally happened in the end. This makes Sixteen Candles and a host of other 1980's movies look like high art. Adults playing teenagers is nothing new, but this time it was too much. Some of the scripted references were far too old to be even recognizable by the "kids" in the story. And let's talk about those kids for a moment, and how most characters were entirely miscast. The tall, gawky girl from Stranger Things should thank her lucky stars she's getting roles, because she's completely unconvincing as the newest hot girl in the high school. Not happening for a millisecond. And what's her name from Riverdale is certainly hot, but 10 or more years too old to play the role. And who's the short shrimp dude who's supposed to be everyone's dream come true? This guy is supposed to be the most popular boy in school? Does this day school have no jocks? Or perhaps no boys over 5'3"? Casting, people - casting. And it goes without saying that - of course - every bad person in the film is a man, and all of the good people are women (even if they did begin as borderline psychotics). The level of wokeness at first seemed tongue-in-cheek, almost a parody of Netflix's current political push. It wasn't. It was all over the place, as usual. Honestly, this film could have been 60 minutes, and it still would have gone on too long. It didn't know what it wanted to be, so tried to be everything. Hard pass, people - a hard pass.
Will I ever rewatch? No. Was it entertaining for an afternoon? Absolutely.
Since I'm required to write more for the review to actually be published I'll go ahead and say I liked the filming style, costume choices, and acting. I thought all of it was especially good for a Netflix movie.
What I didn't like is that it is easily 15 minutes too long. There's some fluff that should have been on the cutting room floor, but maybe that's just me.
Once again, I'm never going to rewatch it, but it was great entertainment for an afternoon and that was really all I wanted out of it.
Just wasting characters now....

I had very low expectations from the get-go considering most of the teen garbage shows netflix churns out. I also can't seem to tolerate high school movies or shows anymore. This one was surprisingly done right.
Teen tropes turned on its head, not so predictable, not so vulgar, plus excellent soundtrack and a great cast. Less cringey than most teen woke shows out there.
The whole revenge angle is also really cathartic at times and I was rooting for them the whole time. Not without flaws but hey, for what it is, I had a good time!
90s teen movies were really superior, but this almost has that same vibe, and it pays homage to some of my favorites. This to me is possibly one of the best teen movies in years.

Do Revenge
It's been quite a long time since audiences have been served a high school comedy with so much style and sass, and Do Revenge quells that hunger adequately.
Paying homage to classic teen movies like Cruel Intentions (1999), Mean Girls (2004), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) and Clueless (1995), Do Revenge paths down familiarity albeit with a fresh and colourful take. Do Revenge knows what it's about and doesn't stray away, it's all about delicious and dark fun, with several plot twists scattered around. The acting is spot on and the score just makes everything better. Should go on to become a teen movie staple
Rating: 7.5/10.

Do Revenge is a solid teen movie that has some depth and intelligence while still being fun. Although not perfect, it's a great choice for a girls night or whenever you want something light-ish to pass the time.
The sets and costumes are really well done with some great color that I think make this movie a little more shiny and captivating than others. This is not a girl/boy next door teen movie, but focuses on privilege, revenge and friendship. There's also a bit more of an edge to this move that teen movies of the 90's and early 2000's don't have (it seems like everything has to be dark and edgy nowadays.) Nevertheless, Do Revenge is still light hearted with a 'good guys win' vibe where everyone learned their lessons.
Overall the acting and writing were solid, and this is one of the better teen movies that Netflix has come out with. There was minimal cringe and the script and plot were smart. Maya Hawke in particular did exceptionally well.
The story follows two girls who team up to ruin the lives of the people that wronged them. Do Revenge is full of twists though, and not everything is quite what it seems.
You can definitely see this as a Gen Z teen move, maybe. There are a lot of politically correct buzzwords- things are 'problematic,' 'misogynistic' and the villains are being 'fake-woke allies.' Lots of identity labels are thrown around. I guess if that makes a movie Gen Z, then so be it, but that's the main thing that made this movie feel like it was definitely made in the 2020's. It sometimes comes off as a bit overkill but it seems like in some sense the movie was being a bit ironic in its usage. Either way, I didn't mind it because the movie wasn't taking itself too seriously.
My main complaint is that some aspects of the ending gave me some whiplash and I think things were resolved a bit too easily. The movie isn't dark but there's a shocking moment or two but by the end those moments are swept under the rug which left me feeling a bit confused.

I actually loved this movie! It's very much a modern day clueless, cruel intentions and mean girls kind of film. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it's fun for a girls night. Everyone gives such a fun performance! Camila Mendes really delivered on carrying the movie and the rest of the cast did such a great job creating the world. Don't go in expecting a cinematic masterpiece but just enjoy a fun revenge movie with a glass of wine and some chocolate. I've been waiting for a fun movie to watch on a Friday night and I've found it! It's cinematically cool and gives a fresh take on a modern rom com/ revenge film.

Until it wasn't...Dont misjudged me i enjoy it for what it is...You know what you going to see when you tap the play button...Teen Drama movie...Thats the end...But for the 3/4 of it it was a VERY GOOD teen drama movie with a plot twist that i never expected and like it very much...And just BOOM they just erase it and go to just teen movie...They had a nice twist and they just threw it away like it was nothing, when it was the best thing in the movie...But yea i had 2 hours to spent and i spent it nicely...I mean Camila Mendes its very good for this movies(+plus shes hot af)and Maya Hawke its Maya Hawke, always enjoyable to watch her on screen...So yea its a yes from me if you have some time to spend.

This was number one movie on Netflix, so how bad could it really be? The answer is very bad. It's like cruel intentions had a baby.with Strangers On A Train which then got brain damage from smoking too much crystal meth and now is in a wheelchair that is driven by blowing a straw. There is more depth in a bag of Cheetos than this hot bag of trash. The main girl with dark hair is very good looking, so that is nice, but.that is not enough to make a good movie. Another thing I don't like is how the dialogue is clearly written by middle aged hipsters with lots of references to 80s movies and stuff than teenagers now would clearly have no idea about, that is just self indulgent and unrealistic.
People might say I sm getting old and out of touch, but I really do think music, tv shows, and movies are all getting noticeably worse, I'm not exactly sure why, but it is what it is. This whole movie is like the writers picked a few films they want to rip off, made a playlist of their favourite songs, got a bunch of hot upcoming actors, and wrote the actual script in one coked up evening, there is not one original idea in this mess. It is just an 80s teen movie but set in 2022 and all woke and stuff.

I went into this film blind and Ive got to say it's so clearly inspired by Clueless, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You, and more teen comedies.
It's incredible. As a kid born in '96 the vibe of this film was SO cozy and familiar. It was like rewatching all my favourite teen comedies with the added bonus of hightened and modern aesthetics
I'm also so down for the queer rep and commentary on toxic masculinity and fake feminism. C'mon the 'cis hetero men championing female identifying students' committee. Hysterical.
As someone who loves to illustrate pop culture moments and movie scenes I am dyinnnng to take some from this film. The pastels ugh.
Also - what a plot twist.

At Rosehill, an elite private high school, scholarship student Drea Torres (Camila Mendes) is at the top of Rosehill's social elite and dating the most desirable male student Max Broussard (Austin Abrams). When a private video Drea made for Max is leaked to the entire student body, Drea is rendered a social pariah and her reaction towards Max puts her in a precarious position with the school administration due to Max's claims "he got hacked". Eventually Drea meets a new transfer to Rosehill in Eleanor Levetan (Maya Hawke) and the two have both been wrong by others at the school with Drea's grudge with Max and Eleanor's grudge against Carissa (Ava Capri), a girl who supposedly told a story that made Eleanor look like a predator and also outed her. During their conversation the two come up with a plan to go after each other's grudges, but things get more complicated.
Do Revenge is the sophomore directorial feature of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson whose prior credits include Someone Great, Unpregnant, and most recently co-writing Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie is a teenage take on Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train (which itself was taken from a Patricia Highsmith novel) and transplants the story to an elite high school with a focus more on dark comedy than thrills. Do Revenge does quite a lot really well, but I found myself enjoying the first half more than I did the second half as it took some ambitious leaps that I personally don't think it was quite able to pull off.
To start off on the good, Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke are both really strong leads upon our first introduction and the two have solid chemistry that comes through when speaking Robinson's razor-sharp dialogue. There are some very funny setpieces in the film including the revenge plans exacted upon Carissa and Max, with the Max scenes having some solid on point satire of "media spins" and "image rehab" with some great takedowns of the differing standards for public male figures vs. Public female figures. The movie does remember to keep itself funny as it is a comedy and it works its themes in organically without letting them overtake the comedy. But around the 70-minute mark was where the movie started to lose me as it introduces a twist (admittedly one that caught me off guard as I didn't expect it from how the story was progressing) that reframes what we know about Drea and Eleanor. Unfortunately, I can't really discuss it as the trailer surprisingly did a good job of not revealing this twist, but for a solid portion of the movie the focus is no longer on getting revenge on Max and instead an analysis of old wounds which were caused by a character the audience was sympathizing with up to this point. I'm not opposed to the idea on principle, but I don't think it comes across the way Robinson wanted it to because for a twist like this you'd need to go a lot darker with the film to a degree that something like Heathers did, and tonally the film is more in line with something like Jawbreaker (those this is better than Jawbreaker).
Do Revenge is an ambitious and intelligent film, but by the second half the film makes a leap of faith it doesn't quite pull off. I think for some they may be more forgiving of this reversal as it does have some solid ideas underlining it, but for me it was something that derailed the movie for me and I felt the script probably could've benefitted from an additional layer of review (especially since the film wraps up certain subplots in the credits). If you like quirky teen flicks with a cruel bite to the material like Cruel Intentions or Heathers this would probably be for you, even if it doesn't measure up to the standards of this genre.

I have been searching for a no brainer movie to watch and relax not having to think much about it, saw Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke and thought why not..
Where to start? A 28 year old Camila playing a 17-year old, that just doesn't work, I like Maya but honestly if her parents weren't Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke ( one of the best and most famous actor of our time) would she really have a shot? To be in Stranger Things? To get any roles? I think not... Lets be honest: she is not a good actress.. Austin Abrams as the hottest and most popular boy in the school? I think not.... Couldn't remember where I saw him before, then googled and realised he plays the looser kid in Euphoria, seriously? A really small role for Sophie Turner, why did she accept this? I find it hard to believe that after Game of Thrones she isn't being offered better roles, it's just sad... the plot is all over the place, 10 times worse then Riverdale, the girls are really evil then good then evil then good again, the makeover for Eleonor (Maya Hawke) just isn't working... overall, a really bad movie. Netflix please do better, this is getting ridiculous ....
I really enjoyed this movie because it's like a nod to all the classic 80s and 90s rom com movies that we grew up watching such as Clueless and Heathers.
The acting, the costumes and the set were so fabulous!! I'm so glad that an actress like Mendes would step out of her comfort zone from her role in Riverdale and keep trying a new project that is new and not anything related to the show.
Also, Sarah Michelle Gellar participation was a cherry-on-top moment because ever since I saw her in Cruel Intentions I knew that she would come back for another role after her break. Out of that I truly recommend it.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Drea is at the peak of her high school powers when her entire life goes up in flames after her sex tape gets leaked to the whole school, seemingly by her boyfriend and king of the school, Max. Eleanor is an awkward new transfer student who is angered to find out that she now has to go to school with her old bully, Carissa who started a nasty rumor about her in summer camp when they were 13. After a clandestine run-in at tennis camp, Drea and Eleanor form an unlikely and secret friendship to get revenge on each other's tormentors.
The movie was directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robison, who also wrote it with the help of Celeste Ballard.
THINGS I LIKED: I was excited to see Maya Hawke because she's the daughter of legendary actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. Surely, she picked up a few tips from her award-winning parents over the years. She looks just like them and did an excellent job.
Camila Mendes did a fantastic job too.
It was fun to see Sarah Michelle Gellar in something again. She looks great. There were so many nods to the movie she starred in called Cruel Intentions. The director changed some of her lines so she would sound like her character in that movie.
I loved all of the respectful nods to past teen movies in a similar genre from the 1990s. The soundtrack even included music from some of them.
If you've read the book "Strangers on a Train" by Patricia Highsmith, you'll get a kick out of seeing Maya Hawke's character reading it. If you don't know the book, it won't surprise you that the story is about two people getting revenge...or should I say, "Doing Revenge"?
Fantastic costume design by Alana Morshead.
Fans of Game of Thrones will love the small cameo Sophie Turner has in the film.
The movie is very self-aware of how ridiculously woke and narcissistic all of the characters are.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: I couldn't stand ANY of the characters in this movie. What makes me sad is knowing that some teen viewers will try to emulate what they see in this movie. Adults can recognize this movie as satire, but young viewers may not.
Everyone seems to have endless amounts of money. Movies like this set up ridiculous expectations for teenagers.
No one looked like a high school kid at all. Not even close.
Why are girls so shallow and so quick to give it away to a dumb guy?
The movie overstays its welcome, clocking in at almost 2 hours.
Teens today may not recognize the Easter eggs, nor appreciate how clever some of them are.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: All of these teens are TERRIBLE role models for your kids. If they insist on watching it, please have conversations with them about why this movie is a cautionary tale.
We see teens drink a lot of alcohol, smoke weed, and do lines of cocaine A bunch of teens get high on mushrooms A teen guy feels up a teen girl A girl makes a sex tape for her boyfriend Do we really want our kids to admire doing revenge?
THEMES: Revenge Narcissism Forgiveness Anger management Trust Lesbians Profanity, including F-bombs Choices and consequences Superficiality Shame Teens in high school Social status Money Power
