Ok but forgettable and frustrating

Tense but increasingly silly

It's a decent enough set-up and reasonably well acted, but when the big twists came they were pretty ridiculous really.

It's the usual BBC PC affair of course. Would they make a drama where some guys take an unpopular woman boss into the woods, take her trousers down and photograph her as a "prank" and then make the people who did that the sympathetic heart of the story? I think not.

And are we expected to feel sorry for the murderer and accept that he/she had no choice and that it was all OK because the victim was a nasty piece of work?

Ultimately you're left thinking "all they had to do was to admit what happened and they'd have been fine".

Worth a watch but not amazing.

BBC Casting, ITV Pacing

After an arrestingly twisty first few episodes - The Pact, a somewhat far-fetched crime drama set at a Welsh brewery - falls away in big chunks. What makes it worth a gander at all is the incredible cast which has no right to be this good - they all turn in great performances and to see Marsan and the brilliant Aneurin Barnard as a fractious father and son is glorious. Ade Edmondson is also there. If this had cut out a lot of the extraneous fat and red herringy side-plots and been three episodes rather than six it could've been really fascinating - but sadly it wasn't.

I thought it was fabulous

Contrary to the other reviewers, I was totally gripped. It does, I must agree, spend a little too much time on the initial 'joke' actions of the four main protagonists, but it is a delightfully situated story. No idiotic car chases or violence, just a nice plot and super cast of actors. I will certainly watch it again. Just wish there were more series like this :-)

Stick with it!

Having read the previous review I understand what they mean. However I'm currently on the third episode and quite enjoying it. More is happening behind the obvious and it's certainly worth sticking with. Good afternoon or an evening's viewing.

Traditional twists and turns - compelling

The BBC have had some hits and misses with recent thriller / dramas, and this is one of their hits. Good on the BBC for modernising their view on audiences by putting all episodes on iPlayer for us to binge watch.

We were really disappointed with the pursuit of love, with no bones and sparse storyline. The Pact, however, had us glued to each episode until we reached the final conclusion. No spoilers here, but if you love the Welsh countryside from Monmouth to the head of the valleys road, a compelling storyline that builds, twists and turns, and are willing to spend 6 hours to be thoroughly entertained, then this is for you.

Pay no attention to Marmite reviews - make your own mind up.

OK but instantly forgettable

Some solid performances, I love Eddie Marsden more every time I see him. Entertaining enough but none of the "twists" - particularly the final one, were even remotely a surprise.

Possibly worth a binge watch but not worth waiting for each week.

Here's who pulled up his Trousers!

For all the people who have been moaning and claiming that there was a continuity blip, you clearly see him pulling his own trousrs up in the final episode just before he is confronted by his murderer, so to make it quite clear, HE PULLED THEM UP HIMSELF, OK.

Love It!

I caught this show accidentally. I had no plans to watch it until I saw trailer.

The characters are great the plot was very interesting on both seasons. It pulled me in and made me watch both seasons in three days.

There is nothing I would change about this movie other than the characters did repeatedly wear the same clothes on different days.

This movie gave a twist to the plot and the things that happened I wouldn't have expected.

Both seasons were jaw dropping and made me crave more. I hope there are more seasons to come. I look forward to watching more episodes. Great job everyone!!!!!

Trousers

Was it a continuity error that his trousers were down when the women left but up when they returned?

Good

Surprised IMDb are allowing such sexist and borderline discriminatory comments and reviews about this series.

As far as I'm concerned, it isn't brilliant but it kept me watching. As, generally, a non-binger, I binged this whole series. What does that say....

It's a decent storyline but the story really is about friends and family and how they stick together when the going gets tough. Rather heart warming in some capacity and, agreeably, disappointing in others.

Definitely worth a watch regardless. Just stick with it and you'll become involved.

Oh dear

I've long been convinced that for some people, the main characters in a tv or film must be straight white men, because, obvs, anything else is just PC/woke/box ticking. It's never occurred to some of you dinosaurs that not everyone in the world IS a straight white man? And that sometimes it makes it a bit different to cast or write a range of characters? Has 120 years of film and, what, 75? Of tv featuring mostly straight white men not enough for you? Oh and if you object to a gay character and claim you're not a bigot, I've got news for you. You are a bigot.

Rant over.

It's not the best tv show I've ever seen but the acting was good (nb just because you don't like a tv show, and fair enough if you don't, it doesn't mean the acting is bad). Locations are splendid. Note - the reviewer who complained about the accents - you do know that not everyone who lives in Wales is actually Welsh, right?

Baffled by low score

I can't understand why the low score. Well maybe I can. It's four women in the lead. It's a Black woman as the senior police officer. It's the presence of an utter turd who gets himself offed because he's an utter turd. 'Not all men' I hear you say. No not all men. No man I know behaves like that but you can hardly deny they exist. Anyway this isn't a true crime drama it's fiction so get over yourselves.

Great cast and great acting. And a surprise whodunnit. Well it surprised me anyway. Enjoyed it.

Drama set in "Old Normal"

TV and film companies must be in a dilemma about how to portray contemporary events. "The Pact" had one reference to the old or first Lockdown, but everything seemed to have returned to the Old Normal: no masks or social distancing, both of which are likely to be with us - or some of us - for a time to come.

It was nice to see Jason Hughes ("demoted" from his detective-inspector rank in "Midsomer Murders"). But there were plot weaknesses from the start. As has already been remarked: the four women - including the brewery owner's sister - worked on the production line, when a couple at least seemed to enjoy an affluent life style. OK, I know that unemployment is a problem in South Wales and that house prices are low but ...

And would they have taken such drastic action against their employer, who despite being very drunk, recognised them?

It was confusing when Episode 3 (I think) ended on a cliff-hanger, only for Episode 4 to commence on a completely different note. I wondered if I had accidentally missed an episode. It turned out that we'd been taken back in time to see things from the daughter's perspective.

And it never became clear why Arwel was so determined to destroy his son's laptop and refuse the police admittance to search his property. Presumably he knew there would be incriminating evidence about Jack's misdeeds?

And the two children put on an impressive cycling performance to trail the car in the dark to the woods!

When you have watched it all then comment

A slow start but surprise twists, great ending didn't see it coming. Excellent acting. One of the BBC's better efforts recently.

Good drama, Merthyr Tydfil and Monmouth based

Diverse cast. Good acting. Good story. Not your classic whodunnit. I liked how the finger of suspicion gets pointed all around and and the end is not tidy at all. Quite emotional actually. Well done making this. Took me 2 episodes to recognise Edmondson. I thought maybe he was a writer! The truth will out... Well sort of.

I despair

What's really upsetting is the MSM reviewers saying they like it. Despite it being on BBC it has all the cachet of an ITV thriller. A good cast, ludicrous two dimensional characters. Every line flat as a pancake. Every single trope you've ever seen is thrown into the mix. Every 'twist' is signposted like a motorway. You just know we'll be given one red herring after another until they need to install traffic lights in 'the woods'.
