Back in the 1990s and mid-2000s, Watchmen was stuck in development hell. Director Terry Gilliam made many attempts to get his take off the ground but just couldn’t make it work, eventually trying to pitch his project as a five episode miniseries. At the time, the TV production landscape was drastically different and, understandably, no studio was willing to risk a big budget superhero miniseries full of expensive special effects. Then Zack Snyder came along and the rest is history.

Snyder’s take on Watchmen just didn’t seem to understand what Alan Moore was trying to say in his comic, though. Instead, it inserted distractingly gory action and one of the most ludicrous sex scenes ever committed to celluloid. I’ll give it some kudos, though, Jackie Earle Haley was an excellent Rorschach and the Koyaanisqatsi soundtracked Dr. Manhattan origin scene was brilliant.

We're almost a week removed from its reveal, and people are still uncovering easter eggs and references from the Justice League Comic-Con trailer. After it was spotted that he was watching Rick and Morty on one of his televisions, we see that Barry Allen is once again the host of yet another reference to the outside world. This time, it's related to the classic DC comic series Watchmen:

Pretty neat, right? I'm still a little leery of this film post-Batman v Superman, but this trailer is giving me hope that this movie will bring great things to the DC universe. Thanks to Redditor Draynior for the heads up!

The superhero boom is about to come full circle.

Though 2008’s Iron Man is generally held as the first great comic book movie of the current period (Batman Begins doesn’t count, because while it’s a superhero movie, it’s about a million miles away from being a comic book movie), Watchmen probably did more to shape the McU and the Dceu. It was the moment when the post-superhero movie came into existence (assuming you ignore the claims of The Incredibles in 2004), launching the contradiction of pulpy tone and ideological weight that continues to shape the genre now.

And now, 6 years after the film – a flawed but brilliant adaptation of the source (no matter what Alan Moore might claim) – it looks like the source is going to be readapted by the same man for TV.

According to Collider, Zack Snyder has met with HBO to talk about a Watchmen TV series.

Alan Moore always said his graphic novel was unfilmable, and for a while, that almost looked true. Mark looks at attempts to adapt Watchmen

It's now been just over five years since Zack Snyder brought Watchmen, the acclaimed comic series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, to the big screen. Whatever you think of the final film, you could hardly say that the source material was easy to adapt.

Moore's thought-provoking script and Gibbons' detailed artwork came together to make one of the most acclaimed comic series ever created- frequently referred to as comics' answer to The Godfather. Some argue that the comic book movie genre got its Godfather with The Dark Knight in 2008, but studios were trying to adapt Watchmen long before that.

Following up on my previous article, “Watch 15 Great Horror Short Films,” which received a very positive response, I’ve researched and collected 13 more superb horror short films. As with the first article, I limited the choices to stand-alone live-action horror short films not produced for an anthology film and the selections were narrowed down by availability.

In further keeping with the criteria of the first article, animated horror short films and horror-comedy short films were excluded from consideration as both of these categories would make good subjects for their own individual articles. Sorry, Brutal Relax and Fist of Jesus fans.

Despite the rumors of Vin Diesel portraying the heroic synthezoid known as the Vision in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," it would appear as though the "Fast & Furious" actor may be up for a different Marvel role entirely. Earlier this week, Diesel changed the cover photo on his personal Facebook page to that of Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Since then, fans have been speculating as to whether or not the one time "Iron Giant" could be providing his vocal talents for the Guardians' titular talking tree. After all, it's entirely possible that Diesel had assumed Disney would be officially announcing the role at the D23 Expo this past weekend. DC Comics releases what I consider to be the best of the controversial prequels to one of the most celebrated graphic novels of all time with Before Watchmen: Ozymandias /Crimson Corsair Deluxe Edition. The hardcover collection contains issues 1 through 6 of Before Watchmen: Ozymandias, the entire run of Crimson Corsair stories, and the Dollar Bill one-shot. The Crimson Corsair storyline spread out across several of the different Before Watchmen titles.

The real highlight of the Before Watchmen: Ozymandias /Crimson Corsair Deluxe Edition is Adrian Veidt's backstory. Watchmen editor Len Wein takes a character I found to be the least interesting in the original graphic novel and completely change my mind about him. Based on a true story, Ben Affleck's "Argo" tells the tale of six American hostages that escape the U.S. embassy in Tehran after its taken over my Islamic militants. In order to get out of Iran, the six Americans must pretend to be part of a Canadian film crew shooting a fake movie called "Argo." Which makes the film kind of like "Inception"; in the regard that there's a movie within the movie, not a dream within a dream.

With "Argo" now in theaters, we thought what better way to celebrate than by making our own list of things within things. Comic book things, to be exact! These comic books within comic books are all either parodies of actual comics or metaphors for something way bigger, but they're all read by both fictional comic book characters and the real people reading those comic books.

Warner Bros is to release a Watchmen Collector's Edition in the USA on November 13, the company has announced.

It will include a Blu-ray with the 3hrs 35mins Ultimate Cut of the movie - which incorporates the Tales of the Black Freighter animated feature based on a secondary story within the original comic.

Also included is the complete motion comic, two hours of bonus features, the theatrical cut on DVD and a hardcover edition of the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The recommended retail price is $74.99.

There are no plans yet announced for a UK release of this new edition. In fact, the Ultimate Cut has so far never been released in the UK but previously appeared on both DVD and Blu-ray in the USA.

Another graphic novel hoping to make the journey to the big screen is The Order.

Warner has packaged together yet another version of Zack Snyder’s (Sucker Punch) fantasy movie Watchmen.

Introduced in theaters in 2009, the film is already available on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; in a Director’s Cut on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; an Ultimate Cut on DVD and Blu-ray; and even in a Triple-Feature Blu-ray with other comic book movies V for Vendetta and Constantine.

There’s also the Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic on DVD and Blu-ray; companion animation Watchmen: Takes of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; and a Limited Edition Watchmen Director’s Cut with Rorschach Case on DVD and Blu-ray or with Glow in the Dark Dr. Manhattan Head Case on Blu-ray.

Who watches the Watchmen? The answer could be you, if you're interested in getting your hands on the collector's edition boxed set that Warner Bros. is releasing for the 2009 movie.

This new collection promises to be the most indepth look at "Watchmen" we've had yet. Zack Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's beloved graphic novel hit theaters three years ago and a director's cut was later released to DVD and Blu-ray, but this edition will include Snyder's initial vision for the project: "Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut." Basically it will be the director's cut with "Tales of the Black Freighter" interspersed, which Snyder had previously said was the way he wanted to adapt Moore's novel.

The special edition will also include the complete motion comic, two hours of special features, the original theatrical version of "Watchmen," a hardcover version of the graphic novel and a great case to hold it all in.

Artist John Higgins will take over writing duties on the Before Watchmen: The Curse of the Crimson Corsair backup. Current writer Len Wein is stepping down to focus on the prequel's epilogue issue and his ongoing work on the Ozymandias miniseries, reports The Source. DC Entertainment announced it will launch a new series of Watchmen comic books this summer, a development that is sure to excite comic book fans and absolutely piss off Alan Moore.

Watchmen, the groundbreaking 1987 anti-superhero comic written by Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons, is the best-selling graphic novel of all time and is considered sacred by comic geeks the world over. So, anything that involves this historic property touches many different nerves and provokes a complicated range of emotions.

The new series, Before Watchmen, will consist of seven interconnected titles focusing on the past exploits of each member of the Watchmen. This prequel series is being created by some of the biggest names in the comic book community, including Brian Azzarello, J. Michael Straczynski, Adam Hughes and Amanda Conner.

Philadelpha — More than a quarter of a century after "Watchmen" intrigued readers with tales of less-than-heroic and all-too-human – save for Dr. Manhattan – crime-fighting vigilantes, DC Entertainment is revisiting them in a series of original prequels this summer.

The publisher of DC Comics said Wednesday that it will launch seven interlocking and inter-connected miniseries – each focusing on a specific character – as it revisits the world first and last seen in the 1986-1987 12-issue series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, which has remained a staple of critics and consumers and a near-constant best-selling graphic novel.

The seven titles will carry the "Before Watchmen" banner, DC said.

"It's our responsibility as publishers to find new ways to keep all of our characters relevant," DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee said in a statement. "After 25 years, the Watchmen are classic characters whose time has come for new stories to be told.

We get lot's of horror shorts and trailers for shorts sent to the site and for the most part they are not all that good. Every once and awhile we get a gem that looks promising and is interesting, that we just have to share with our readers. Take a look at the trailer for Other. Other is a 15 minute short sci-fi/horror film from Daniel DelPurgatorio, director of Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter and was produced by Vitamin in Chicago, Il.

A couple of weeks ago we gave you the heads up on an interesting new short film about a doctor's self-diagnosis and unorthodox treatment methods gone horribly awry entitled Other. We're now excited to bring you the official trailer for the film, and it just adds to the intrigue.

Other is directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio, best known for helming Tales of the Black Freighter, the companion piece for 2009's Watchmen, which featured the voice-over work of Gerard Butler. However, with Other DelPurgatorio takes a entirely new direction. Watching the trailer, I felt a strong essence of Jeff Goldblum in The Fly. For those of you worried that the magic of "Harry Potter" might die with the July 15 release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," let your fears rest easy, because a rerelease of the epic film series might be in our near future.

We've been teased several times over the past year about the idea of a rerelease of the previous "Potter" flicks in post-converted 3-D, and when MTV News caught up with producers David Heyman and David Barron recently they continued adding fuel to those rumors. 1. How To Train Your Dragon

This was by far the best and most entertaining animated movie of the year, and I was shocked that it came out of DreamWorks Animation because their films usually end up being disappointing. This movie was just flat out awesome though.

Cary Granat's Granat Entertainment is teaming with Reel FX, the company run by former Ilm exec Ed Jones, to form Bedrock Studios, with the aim of developing and producing franchise films in the range of $35 million and under.

The company also hopes to produce content for TV, publishing and digital media.

Granat and Jones have been quietly working for months on the venture, slyly acquiring and developing material and is now hitting the ground running,

It is in preproduction on its first project, the animated feature "Turkeys," has tapped Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson to voice star as two turkeys who discover a time machine and travel back to the first Thanksgiving to take themselves off the menu. Ash Brannon ("Toy Story 2") is directing while John J. Strauss and David I. Stern wrote the script and are producing. Luke Wilson is also lending his voice, and Peter Farrelly will executive produce the project.

Rare is the film where the director's cut is better than the film unspooled before your eyes in the theatre. Usually the director's cut tends to be slower and focus on more boring aspects of the narrative. Sometimes, they can be incredibly self-indulgent and pretentious. The point is, there's usually a reason why the unsuspecting public never gets to see the cut until the ancillary market of home video, and even then you have to question the reasoning behind it's release. (Oh right, it's money).

Occasionally, though, a director's cut will slip through the cracks to make a good movie even better. This brings much delight to the movie geek and the casual observer alike. Sometimes there's more to explore in a film that the original two hours wouldn't allow the first time around. For this, we are grateful. To honor this, I have compiled what I consider to be the best of the best.

Animated movie Dante's Inferno is to have a big-screen UK premiere in London next month.

The screening on February 2 will also be a chance for fans to be first to play the tie-in video game by Electronic Arts, ahead of its release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP on February 5.

It’s been less than a year since Watchmen hit the big screen and already we’re seeing our third cut of the film, and easily the most expansive. I’ll start off by saying this is a review of the film, not of the DVD/Blu-ray and all of it’s bonus features. This Tuesday, Warner Bros. is releasing the “ultimate cut” of “Watchmen,” a 5-disc box set intended to do the graphic novel justice–something that writer Alan Moore would be (but still isn’t) proud of. The feature included is an hour longer than the theatrical release, and there are plenty of bonuses to be seen. Go through it all with me, one disc at a time, after the jump.

Disc One: The “Ultimate” Cut

I’m among the select group of people who loved both the graphic novel and Zack Snyder’s film “Watchmen” when it released in March. And though I agree the book trumps the film, I am a tremendous fan of both for different reasons.

Ever since Watchmen came out we’ve heard tale of an “ultimate cut” that would offer fans the Total Watchmen experience, including the full-length director’s cut of the movie, with the added bonus of having animated segments from the Tales of the Black Freighter tie-in film spliced in with the live-action footage, much in the same vein as was done in the original Watchmen graphic novel.

Get your wallets ready folks, it's time for another double dip! But you knew this was coming right? Zack Snyder's initial release of Watchmen on DVD and Blu-ray may have been his Director's Cut with all the additional footage added back in, but if you'll recall, he also said he wanted to release the movie complete with the Tales of the Black Freighter animated movie integrated into the story as well. And that's exactly what you'll get from Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut, heading to DVD and Blu-ray this November! As we know and lament often, studios are never content to release a DVD just once, and any special edition is just a precursor to a bigger and better version somewhere down the road. Just a few months after we enjoyed Watchmen: The Director's Cut comes Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut, which hits store shelves on November 3. As you can guess from the cover art, this is the edition that will splice The Tales of the Black Freighter back into Watchmen, extending the movie's running time by another half hour or more.

Presumably, the footage with the newsstand vendor and the kid reading the comic will also be added in to help it flow better, but the official press release doesn't actually mention that. Other than the Black Freighter, the special features are just one big grab bag of what already appeared on the Director's Cut and Tales of the Black Freighter DVDs.

While most of the time studios wait to double dip with DVD/Bluray extended editions for a while after the initial bare bones release, the upcoming Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut, set to be released on November 3rd, is following hot on the heels of the director’s cut we got a few months back.

This version will integrate the “Tales of the Black Freighter” animated feature starring Gerard Butler with a lenghty cut of Watchmen, alongside the complete motion comic adaptation of the source material. With a running time of 215 minutes and a new commentary with director Zack Snyder and illustrator Dave Gibbons, this is the most comprehensive version of Watchmen that you could possibly ever want.

Warner Bros. just sent out the sellsheet of the upcoming “Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut” and it confirms what we already heard: “The Ultimate Cut” has the “Tales of the Black Freighter” animated short film woven into the Director’s Cut. This new cut will also have two new commentaries from Director Zach Snyder and Illustrator Dave Gibbons. According to the sellsheet, the Ultimate Cut runs 3 hours and 35 minutes.
