Former Netflix executive Tania Zarak Quintana has joined Iceland’s Truenorth, one of the leading production services companies in the Nordics, as it looks to ramp up development of original content.

The production outfit is developing a slate of original shows including “Starlungar,” a 10-part series it’s dubbed “‘The Godfather’ of the 13th century” that follows four wealthy and powerful clans as they fight to gain power over Iceland, and “Eyland,” a dystopian series set in present-day Iceland that questions what would happen if communication with the rest of the world suddenly stopped.

Truenorth is also attached to co-produce a feature-film adaptation of bestselling Icelandic author Ragnar Jónasson’s thriller “Outside,” which was optioned by Scott Free Productions.

Produced by The Horror Collective parent company Entertainment Squad, Slaxx is the latest collaboration between Anne-Marie Gélinas and Shaked Berenson, who brought the world 2015’s cult hit Turbo Kid – and tells the story of a possessed pair of jeans which come to life and terrorizes the staff of a trendy, vapid clothing boutique!

Set to have it’s world premiere at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, Slaxx has been acquired by Shudder and will debut on the streaming service in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand next year.

Slaxx directed by Elza Kaphert, who co-wrote the film alongside Patricia Gomez, and stars Romane Denis (True North), Brett Donahue (Total Recall), Sehar Bhojani (The Handmaid’s Tale), Kenny Wong (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Tianna Nori (Letterkenny), and Hanneke Talbot (Ready Or Not), sees a possessed pair of jeans brought to life to punish the unscrupulous practices of a trendy clothing company.

HBO’s ‘Patria’ Heads To France

France’s Canal+ has acquired HBO Europe’s first Spanish original drama, Patria. Set in Spanish Basque Country and taking place over 30 years during, Patria tells a story through the eyes of two families divided by the violent conflict. The show will premiere in HBO Europe’s 21 territories on September 27, while it will be released on the same day in the U.S. on HBO and HBO Max. Patria was created and written by Aitor Gabilondo, based on the bestselling novel by Fernando Aramburu.

Though unlikely to ever come to fruition, Kevin Smith has an idea for Tusk 2. Smith departed his View Askewniverse, which includes movies like Clerks and Mallrats, for a Canadian-set horror/comedy called Tusk in 2014. The end result was met with a mixed response and failed to connect commercially. Be that as it may, Smith has revealed what the sequel would look like.
