Great Format, But It Just Feels Like A Lazy Cash-Grab

Pros: 1. The format wherein one character is interviewed at a time works well as it allows for a more in-depth focus on each respective individual. 2. It's great to see the individuals outside of the documentary, particularly Erik Cowie, John Reinke, Joshua Dial, Kelci Saffery, and John Finlay.

Cons: 1. The jokes made are incredibly cringy and unfunny. 2. The host was unbearable, stale, he kept looking off to the side as if he was uninterested, and he gave the impression that he was just reading questions off of a piece of paper. 3. Very little of the information presented in this one-off episode is new, which makes this 40 minute documentary largely redundant. 4. A lot of the questions were just dedicated to Joe Exotic bashing, instead of the individuals being interviewed, especially for Rick Kirkham.

2 Stars out of 5 Stars

(Already reviewed Tiger King on my Letterboxd account. Reviewing this separately from the rest of the docuseries as this was a TV special and doesn't fit with the rest of the series)

It adds new information to the story, revealing Joe Exotic is deathly scared of big cats, and detailed just how cruel he actually was to his animals, particularly a horse that was given to him. This host was horribly unfunny. His jokes were so awkward, although he did ask some interesting questions. In all, it could of been good if they had a better host, but I found it unnecessary, especially since they released a season 2.

Just skip it

I only watched this to get it of my 'continued watching' list.

Unnecessary

Trashy and fast produced add on to ride on the hype that has nothing to do with the high produciton value and subtile nuances of the original show. This is worse than an average Skype interview on Youtube. And this says a lot. Just a quick cash grab that wastes everyones time watching it. Avoid it like the.. you know...

Disrespectful

The host is so disrespectful and treating the guests as characters from a reality instead of the tragic real life story it is.

It was what we needed, but the delivery was dismal.

We all wanted more, the surprise hit of the year had us all gripped, but this was awful, the host was just terrible, why not try and get a little more information out of them in a respectful way, he was demeaning to most of them, particularly John.

More would have been nice, but this a cheap way to extend the incredibly well made series. 2/10.

This episode was so bad I had to create an acount to review this.

I could not last 3 minutes listening to the self centered host. I thought it would be some interesting look into the after affects from legal remedies after the shows appearance, but instead I got to listen to this smock bragging of how famous the Tiger King have become.

1 of 10 tomatoes. Just ruined 3 minutes I rather be scratching my balls.

It's Entertaining

I didn't think Joel McHale did as bad a job that some others are commenting. He throws some dumb/funny questions out here and there but it wasn't bad.

I think the authenticity of the people in the documentary are reflected in the interview and it's good to hear their thoughts after the release of the series. Huge shout out to all the diligent zoo workers Reinke, Eric, and Kelci.

So one sided

All the questions were one sided and subjective. Like asking an animal enthusiast who would they trust more- a tiger or Joe Exotic. They then answer "a tiger" and host proceeds to nod with understanding. This is such stupid journalism. Nothing new here. Wast of time, don't watch.

What a stupid "afterparty"

Yet another nauseatingly selfindulgent journalist trying to be funny - just ending up being really annoying. Not EVERY question need to have a lame punchline. The timing is awful, and the atmosphere is deeply akward. Basically, the host talks to himself: "Hey, listen, I'm funny. Hey, listen, I'm funny again". Some of the guests try to be serious - but i all drowns in "funny funny funny". Must be avoided. Stick to the seven original parts

Not as bad as others are saying

Nice little follow up episode , yes the host Joel is trying to throw in jokes here and there but anyone being interviewed is just laughing along. I think it's worth the watch just to get to know some of the people involved a little more

Unnecessary

If you can get past the first 2 minutes I hope you realize how unnecessary this is on a profound level. Joel McHale spends more time being a cocky self indulgent host than a journalist of any sorts. A shame. Shame on you Joel.

Terrible journalism

This was a big disappointment. Totally one-sided journalism. Joe Exotic is obviously not a great guy but there was no balance to this at all. Furthermore the conceited host was too busy self-promoting to add any gravitas to the whole sorry affair.

The host did a really bad job. Hear this.

On YouTube there are better interviews, WAY better interviews with questions we really DO want to hear. The host was in my experience, like almost everyone else here agrees on : not funny, not even close.

By the way do you guys realize you put the DOC at a lower rating because you count this as an episode, so LAME, the show was rated higher until this trash stuck its name on to it. What a SHAME.

Awful

This follow up episode (episode 8) is hideously bad. Bad enough that it is making me like the documentary less.

A seriously bad idea that likely harmed the overall documentary.

what we needed

The new information in this aftershow is interesting, Joel does a good job interviewing the people involved (even if it would've been nice to get more of the cast in the episode), giving more information about the cast, and is very funny. Not a must-see, but fun and doesnt take away from the original 7 parts, only adds. Joel laying it a little harder on Joe than was expected is surprising, but a nice contrast to the way the actual documentary ended.

Skip this afterparty

The host is obnoxious and cares more about making fun of the people in the documentary than actually engaging in any meaningful interview whatsoever.

Pfffff

All those people are now rich because of Joe but have turned against him even more. Joe is an ass and has made many mistakes, but he is still the most interesting persona in this show. Everyone is full of themselves now. What an awful episode.
