The original name of the film was Freaky Friday the 13th, a reference to the various Ein ganz verrückter Freitag (1976) films, about a mother and daughter body swapping, and the Freitag, der 13. (1980) films.
Vince Vaughn told the stunt driver to actually hit him with the car when he was crossing the street, early in the film. The director said Vaughn said he could take the hit, and he did.
Director/co-writer Christopher Landon proposed a crossover movie with Happy Deathday (2017), called "Freaky Death Day".
Kathryn Newton was the first choice for Millie, but she originally declined the role. However, after speaking with Jason Blum about the project, she eventually changed her mind.
The bulk of the movie takes place on Friday the 13th. The film was released Friday, November 13th, 2020.
