The movie has it's moments, although if you're not a Dane (or at least a Scandinavian) many of the jokes and many of the characters attitude will seem strange and not funny at all.
I give this movie 5 stars. It's not good movie, but it's not terrible either.
With a star-specked cast you would definitely have expected more, and you get the feeling that it is not for lack of trying, but more likely a result of trying too much. Trying to get so many jokes and fantastic events and places packed in, that too many unfunny jokes and badly paced elements slipped through.
The animation and sound effects don't break any new ground, but are very competent and never gets in the way of the story. Considering the story and humor are both sub-par that may actually have be a bad thing, because with some greater artistic depth in the scenery the film might have been worth watching for that alone.
It's hard to recommend Rejsen til Saturn, but at the same time it's a movie you don't really want to see fail. There is great potential all around, the execution here just doesn't do it justice, but you are left with the clear feeling that the next film can be much better - if there will be one.
If you want to support more Danish animation films I suggest you go see it. It won't be a complete waste of your time, and there will be some good laughs - but unfortunately not nearly enough.
Absolutely one of the best Danish comics ever created - some will say the best.
So I had high hopes - especially after having been taunted by the trailers.
Half through the film, I started regretting having even started to watch it.
The executed crude 'humor' in the film - actually just executed this fantastic Idea.
I really wanted to abort the Saturn-film, but I regretfully watched it to the end.
Now I know - whenever Frank Hvam, Casper Christensen and Simon Jul are involved, it is going to turn out like a catastrophe - being: BORING - BORING - BORING.
Claus Deleuran - born a few paces from H. C. Andersens birthplace
- must be rotating in his grave!
*When Kurt Maj collaborates with the Aliens wishing only a single island (Greenland) - it's like Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor in Superman II (1980) where he offers General Zod the whole Earth, except Australia.
*When the space nerd Ib is forced to vacuum clean his mother's house before he can help the professionals in rescuing the Earth, it's similar to Galaxy Quest (1999) where the nerdy computer geek Brandon is forced to put out the garbage, before saving the heroes.
*Finally there is Mars Attacks (1996) where the Aliens' duck-like voices and the flying saucers formation have been plagiarized.
It's a spoof movie like Scary Movie or Superhero Movie (2008).
The businessman Per Wimmer, who tries to become the first Dane in space, is a namesake with the failed astronaut Per Jensen.
If you like adolescent humour like dildo-shaped translators, zero gravity puking and burping - this is a movie for you!

- WissenswertesFrederik X of Denmark, was asked to create a voice for one of the characters, but he politely declined. Viggo Mortensen was also asked, but he didn't return an answer.

Arne Skrydsbøl: Did you see that? He got all up tight when I mentioned Freedom of Speech.
