One of the best films in TFI in recent years

As a fan of detective/thriller movies, I couldn't miss this and I'm even more surprised by how much I loved this movie which usually doesn't happen when I watch a hyped movie. So thankful to Naveen for bringing this brilliant mystery to Telugu audience and dealing with a subject that's making a fool of the innocents. However, the sad thing remains that the film is unable to reach that set of audience.

Coming to the performances, Naveen just nailed it, the way he balances humor, emotion, and intelligence is commendable. Shruthi also did her job very well. It was good to see Suhas as the Kannada version of Agent (although he could've been used better). The screenplay was tight, always keeps you guessing till the end, lots of twists which don't seem to be coming. The pace of the film was so good that you can't think of anything else or search for goofs. The exposition in the film feels justified and that's not very common in Tollywood. There were little cons but that's negligible consider how power-packed the whole movie is, it's a must watch for everyone and I hope there's more to come from Naveen and Swaroop for the Telugu Film Industry.

It's an edge of the seat thriller with truck load of humour and a bit of emotions involved. Lead role carried the movie on his shoulders till the end. All in all,the movie was brilliant!

Can't believe it is a Telugu film industry flick

I gave high rating to this movie because it is worth. The concept and the storyline is first if it's kind. There are no songs, no dirty romance, no non purposeful heroins and supporting actors and most importantly no heros playing basketball with goons. You die fans of bada heros you what I'm talking about. Ultimately cannot believe it's a Telugu film industry flick. Potential to have a sequel and I will be waiting for it.

Worth my money and time. Must Watch Detective Movie.

No profanity. No romance. No item song or duets. No bada or famous actors. But then this film is worth your money and time. The best Detective movie after *Megastar's Chantabbai*. *Naveen Polishetty* did a remarkable job and has proved a movie doesn't require all the above things if you have right story placed with right screenplay. Hatsoff to the debutant director *Swaroop RSJ* for giving such an interesting movie by trusting solely on the story. Background music is amazing, you will feel the tense and will be on the edge of your seats. Perfect🔥🔥🙏

Must watch suspense thriller.

Detective movie at its best. Every actor did their best in their roles. Special mention to Naveen Polishetty for a remarkable job as the lead of the movie. Also splendid job by the other cast of the movie. "Burger Police" Vishwanath was good on the screen. Watched him in few other kannada movies as well, has great potential and screen presence. Also "Suhas" played a good role. "Sandeep Raj" had a good run in the movie without dialogue. Screenplay was gripping. The heroine was also supportive. The "Serious COP" Ramdutt Girdoina also played a good role and helped the detective lead to crack the case. Overall a very good movie and will definitely be loved every time it will be watched. Thanks to director Swaroop for a wonderful movie with a gripping screenplay. This movie would make you sit on the edge of your seats with the background score playing an important role.

Didn't expect the movie would be so much engaging & interesting.

First of all, this is not a comedy movie. It's a 100% crime thriller. Action, direction, story, bgm, screenplay all exceeded my expectation & is one of the best movie I watched. Well made. Suspenseful.

Agent Sai, FBI.

Well, I am impressed !!

Please don't let the posters and the name of "Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya" fool you, this movie is an a absolute gem of Telugu cinema. Yes, the first 30-35 minutes will look like an average masala cinema, then for the next 100 minutes, the viewers will get totally "Ambushed" as the movie will turn into a phenomenal physiological crime thriller, rest assured no matter however hard we try, the plot cannot be predicted, even for seasoned crime cinema fans.

Swaroop RSJ totally impresses with his storyline and an unpredictable top class screenplay, full marks for him. But the same Swaroop exhibits a lot of flaws and inexperience with the direction of the movie, be its treatment, casting and pacing. But the story and screenplay works wonders to hide the rest of his mistakes made. Background score is quite gripping but cinematography, production design, make up and costumes remain par but it should be appreciated considering the film's budget. On the acting front Naveen Polishetty absolutely rocked portraying Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya and deserves a pat on the back but the performances of all other supporting actors were average and sub par.

Overall, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is another addition to the "New Generation" of Telugu cinema that's been in swashbuckling from since 2017 and has been churning out some very good movies. It is an absolute delight to watch this movie and is highly recommend for all crime cinema fans all over. Please bear with the first 30 minutes to get into a highly unpredictable ride on screen. The movie definitely deserves an 8/10 rating but I am cutting a star for its treatment and some loopholes. Totally worth the time spent, Two Thumbs up, take a bow Swaroop RSJ.

Could Have been a Blockbuster.

What a refreshing film after a long gap. One man show by Navinpolishetty.his humour, comedy timing, funny dance, expression swapping, dialogue delivery... excellent and moreover he carried emotional scenes with very ease.as of story its a 10/10. he took a new concept which is real, happening, and ingored by many. one thing which made this film into a "not one more ratsasan" is non realistic views of murders and this resulted in decrease of fear in audience. While ratsasan carried the whole film with a fear. i loved this film a lot like i am disappointed as this didn't became the Blockbuster in TFI.and i heard there's a sequel for #ASSA and thats all i am waiting.

Intelligently made film - Don't miss it.

I wanted to watch this movie once I watched the trailer. However, I couldn't catch it while it was being played in theaters because it didn't release in UAE. However, I watched this movie once it came out in Amazon Prime (I am very thankful that they got the rights to stream) and I loved every bit of the movie.

I won't reveal any plot or even provide you with a story because whoever is reading this review and thinking whether to watch this movie, I don't want to ruin anything for them and answer simply by saying "WATCH IT!". You will enjoy it.

It's intelligently made movie, with good characterizations and arcs. The concept itself is an eye-opener for everyone. It has everything for everyone. If you're a person who is into enjoying a movie then this is more than a feast. So, go ahead and watch it.

"A Quirky Detective Thriller"

**Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya** is a Telugu neo-noir comedy thriller that surprised audiences with its unique blend of humor, suspense, and a gripping storyline. Directed by Swaroop RSJ, the film introduced Naveen Polishetty as the titular character, a quirky and eccentric detective.

The film's strength lies in its unconventional protagonist. Sai Srinivasa Athreya is far from the typical sharp-suited detective. He's a bumbling, often clueless investigator who relies on his instincts and a touch of luck to solve cases. This quirky portrayal, coupled with Naveen Polishetty's impeccable comic timing, makes the character instantly endearing.

The plot, revolving around a series of mysterious deaths, is engaging and keeps the audience guessing. While the first half is primarily focused on establishing the character and setting up the mystery, the second half picks up pace with thrilling twists and turns. The film's screenplay is sharp and witty, with several well-placed humorous moments that lighten the mood without compromising the suspense.

Naveen Polishetty's performance as the titular character is the heart and soul of the film. His portrayal is nuanced, balancing the comedy with the required intensity for the thriller portions. The supporting cast, including Shruti Sharma, also delivers commendable performances.

The film's technical aspects are commendable. The cinematography captures the essence of the story, and the background score adds to the suspenseful atmosphere. The editing is crisp, maintaining a brisk pace throughout the film.

While the film is largely entertaining, it does have a few minor shortcomings. The humor, while effective, occasionally borders on slapstick. Additionally, the climax could have been more impactful.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is a refreshing change of pace in Telugu cinema. It's a film that successfully blends humor, suspense, and a compelling story to create an engaging viewing experience. The film's success led to a sequel, further solidifying its position as a cult classic.

A superb comedy thriller discovers one of the most horrible religious crime set-up.

Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya (2019) : Brief Review -

A superb comedy thriller discovers one of the most horrible religious crime set-up. This film is a fine example of how a dumb looking film at the beginning can be turned into a superb gripping thriller later on. The film is about an authentic, filmy, quite dumb yet pretty smart detective agent Sai Srinivasa and it revolves around the fictional story based on true events that discovers of one of the most important crime rackets of our country. At the beginning it looks dumb when you see the detective trying to be humourous with non-sense talk about Hollywood crime thrillers. After some time it becomes much smarter starting from the scene when the detective tells the definition of 'A Detective' to an unknown guy by revealing lots of unknown details he wouldn't want to tell anyone. Then the crime mystery begins and it doesn't stop for anything until it is reached its destination. While most of the begining part is wasted for nothing related to the context, the finale is freaking mind-boggling in every sense. The hunger of watching a super detective thriller surely is fulfilled by the overall impact of the film. Navin Polishetty is hilarious and damn madly involved in his character. His dialogue delivery, expression, that confidence while finishing the dialogues everything is brilliant. Shruti Sharma looks beautiful but I wish she had been used better throughout the structure of the storyline. The Cinematography is fine, the screenplay is bit overlong and the background score is chilling. Swaroop Rsj is better as director than a writer here. May be couple of things have gone wrong in the writing such as set up of characters, emotional links and awareness portion but as a director he hasn't done any such mistakes. Overall, it's a good fun plus a nice thrill.

Best Telugu movie in the recent times

It was captivating end to end. No vulgarity, romance, fights or such out of place stuff. The actors though new were good and, the story and direction were great. A good comedy thriller after many days. The comedy was sooo good.

A humorous detective flick that'll leave you reasonably satisfied! [+69%]

The first 40 minutes or so, of Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya, is modelled like a bunch of interesting comical skits. Naveen Polishetty dons the titular role, replete with a long overcoat, trousers with suspenders, and a hat à la Sherlock Holmes. With his office bang in the middle of Nellore vegetable market, he's the caricatural startup detective that we're easily amused by. Accompanying him on his crime-solving adventures is his assistant Sneha (Shruti Sharma), the female Watson who is both efficient and enjoys taking murmurous digs at her boss, whenever he embarrasses himself.

However, there's a lot more to Athreya than being just a detective always at the wrong place - he's exceptionally good at interrogations and crime reconstruction, and he's lightning-fast at what he does. He also comes with a sentiment-heavy backstory that ties into the subsequent acts quite well. When Athreya is tasked to get to the bottom of a particular murder case, he thinks of it as the defining moment of his career. What follows is a thoroughly engaging cat-and-mouse investigation with a good number of twists in store.

The humour does take a backseat during these portions and we begin to sense a tonal shift. We get to know that a larger conspiracy is at play, and it involves unidentified dead bodies. The running time maybe 148 minutes, but the film never slows down. Each revelatory scene ties seamless into the next, sometimes with a little too much detail. The detailing works both in favour of and against the film - it's brilliant to see how many similar crimes start to connect, but with the extensive list of characters, places, and even geographical understanding, it gets a bit tiresome to keep up with.

Another aspect of the film that bothered was the screenplay's fixation on Athreya that all supporting characters tend to recede into the background. Also, some of the twists rely on sheer co-incidences and expository dialogue. Polishetty is magnetic and leaves us in splits a lot more than we'd expect. While I wouldn't call the film a wholesome edge-of-the-seat thriller, its cleverness lies in fitting all the pieces of the puzzle together in a convincing manner. The director (Swaroop RSJ) also avoids unnecessary songs and love angles. If there's going to be a sequel, I definitely won't be missing it!

Engaging thriller with humor

There are very few detective films in tollywood. Thanks to the director swaroop for a new age thriller. The hero naveen was excellent and no other hero can match ti the role. Making a quality product with limited budget is a risk they unit succeeded in it. And not using heroine for a love track is another highlight of the film. And foot-thumping BGM with stunning visuals made movie to the next level.
