Ginnifer Goodwin's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
Ginnifer Goodwin has made a huge effort to hone her acting craft. Not only does she have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts in Acting with honors from Boston University, but she also studied with the Shakespeare Institute and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Shes done everything from work on stage to the silver screen and voiced animated characters. Goodwin has even sung for a few roles.

She is best known for her role as Snow White in Once Upon A Time, but Goodwin has a pretty varied acting resume behind her. Shes appeared in family-friendly roles (and is set to reprise one of them in Zootopia 2 for Disney), thrillers, dramas, and more soapy TV series. Many of her best roles are actually on television, perhaps because these are projects that allow her to spend a little bit more time with the characters she plays.

Well, Friends star Maggie Wheeler, who portrayed the role of Janice Hosenstein in the show, owes her iconic catchphrase to Perry’s antics. If it weren’t for Matthew Perry, the world may never have heard the catchphrase ‘Oh My God’.

How Matthew Perry Helped Maggie Wheeler With Her Catchphrase

Believe it or not, the catchphrase ‘Oh My God’ said by Janice throughout the entirety of Friends wasn’t scripted. It was the result of improvisation, trying not to laugh, and, Matthew Perry’s comedy.

“They stopped offering me movies”: Before His Death, Matthew Perry Wished Friends Had Never Ended as His Acting Career Saw a Tragic Downfall
Image
Friends ran for a complete decade, bringing new stories every year from 1994 to 2004. And while some shows lose their spark when stretched so long, Friends remained as charming as ever. After its end, the main actors went their separate ways, but things didn’t work out too well for Matthew Perry, who was facing a bit of bad luck in the industry.

One failed movie after the other caused studios to stop offering him roles and while his time on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and other television shows was “fun,” there was a time when he wished that Friends had never come to an end.

Image
In the offices of Dunder Mifflin (Scranton branch), salesmen, accountants and even Hr got together to decide once and for all: Is Hilary Swank hot or not? They’re referring to her looks, but one could just as easily be talking about her career. At what point was Hilary Swank hot in her career? In 2008, when the episode aired: Yeah. In the years between her Oscars? Not exactly. Now? No. So, let’s take a look and find out…Wtf Happened to…Hilary Swank?

But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Hilary Swank, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on July 30th, 1974, in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a youth, Swank bounced around a bit, going from Nebraska to Washington to California, developing a love for both gymnastics (Junior Olympian; state finalist) and acting (appearing in The Jungle Book at 9 as Mowgli...

Bo Report: ‘Venom’ defies the critics while ‘Ladies in Black’ stays strong
‘Venom’ (Photo credit: Ctmg)

The critics hated Venom, blasted by Rolling Stone’s Pete Travers as a “puddle of simplistic, sanitized PG-13 drivel” and the worst Marvel film of the year, and by The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw as clumsy, monolithic and fantastically boring.

Audiences must be watching a different movie as the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man spin-off starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed smashed October opening weekend records worldwide last weekend.

Bruce Beresford’s Ladies in Black clearly is benefiting from repeat business in its third weekend while Benjamin Gilmour’s Jirga advanced to $128,000 including festival screenings after taking $16,000 in its second weekend on 10 screens.

Paramount released Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups direct to home entertainment in the Us but gave it a theatrical run here as an alternate content release.

American Animals – Review
(l-r) Jared Abrahamson as Eric, Evans Peters as Warren, Blake Jenner as Chas and Barry Keoghan as Spencer in disguise, in Bart Layton’s American Animals. Photo courtesy of The Orchard.

American Animals opens with a screen showing the familiar words “this is based on a true story” but the text quickly changes to “this is a true story,” a hook sure to get your attention,

American Animals tells a strange but true story, of a daring daylight art heist, by four college students who attempt to steal a rare and valuable Audubon book from a Kentucky university, but it is the way it tells it – with the actual people involved periodically commenting on the story as the actors recrete the events like any crime film.

The combination of narrative film and documentary film techniques makes writer/director Bart Layman’s film unique. Sometimes a narrative film closely recreates real...

American Animals (2018)
American Animals Review: A Fascinating True Crime Story
American Animals (2018)
American Animals is a fascinating true crime story; made even more engaging by its brilliant format. The film intercuts the portrayal of an infamous heist with interviews from the actual people involved. We learn the motivations of the characters from two key perspectives, real time and hindsight. It is a meticulous and highly creative exploration into the vagaries of human nature. Acclaimed documentarian Bart Layton reaches greatness with his first narrative feature.

American Animals opens in 2003 Kentucky. Barry Keoghan stars as Spencer Reinhard, a disenchanted art student at Transylvania University. His middle-class, suburban life has left him hollow. He yearns for the passion and adventure that inspired the great artists. A chance tour of the school's library leads to a presentation of its rare book collection. The showcase piece, John Audubon's "Birds of America", is the most valuable book in the world.

Evan Peters co-stars as Warren Lipka, Spencer's best friend from high school.

Oceans 8 (2004)
‘American Animals’: Real-Life Heist Inspiration Spencer Reinhard on How His Life Was the Anti-‘Oceans 11’
Oceans 8 (2004)
With “Oceans 8” and “American Animals” now in theaters, heist movies are having a moment. It’s not hard to see why: During this chaotic chapter in the cultural history of the country, there’s nothing more fun than watching an elaborate cast of characters planning a near-impossible crime, one successfully pulled off with smooth moves, sleight of hand, and winks at the camera.

“American Animals” has become a surprise summer hit at the specialty box office, grossing nearly half a million dollars in its first two weeks. But it’s a different kind of heist movie than anything in the “Ocean’s” franchise. The crime draws from a real-life incident — when four college-aged Kentucky men attempted to steal some rare books from Transylvania University in 2004 — and director Bart Layton flips the script on the audience, by bringing in the real people involved to tell their story alongside the actors midway through.

American Animals (2018)
‘American Animals’ Film Review: Entertainingly Fizzy Heist Movie Defies Expectations
American Animals (2018)
Surely the 21st century equivalent to the old Hollywood trope “Let’s put on a show!” is, judging by the movies that get made, “Let’s pull off a heist!” What that says about the evolution of our wish-fulfillment fantasies is a tad worrisome, so it’s refreshing that “American Animals,” which recreates and dissects a real 2004 robbery committed by a quartet of thrill-seeking college kids, grasps that there’s something singularly regrettable in how our popular art glorifies criminality.

And yet, for a good deal of its running time, writer-director Bart Layton’s slick, music-fueled assemblage of recreated narrative and documentary manages to be as deftly comic and suspenseful as the bank job movies from which Layton, and the incident’s perpetrators, took inspiration. Until, that is, the reality of bad decisions and corrosive entitlement act as an all-too-necessary dampener.

The crime was known as the “Transy Book Heist.

'American Animals' Review: Who Likes Doc Hybrids About Dumb Criminals?
American Animals (2018)
You'd call this heist film un-fucking-believable, except that American Animals really is rooted in fact – that is, whenever the British documentarian Bart Layton, in a mightily impressive narrative feature debut, doesn't mess around too much. "This is not based on a true story," reads a title card at the start ... before the words "not based on" slowly vanish from the screen.

It's 2004 in Lexington, Kentucky, when homeboys Spencer Reinhard (Barry Keoghan) and Warren Lipka (Evan Peters), students at local Transylvania University, decide to pull off a robbery. They don't need the money,...

Teenagers Who Famously Tried to Steal Millions from a College Library on Their 'Extreme' Story
American Animals (2018)
13 years ago, four privileged teenagers with bright futures and everything to lose went through with a half-baked scheme to steal millions of dollars worth of rare books from a local college. The story behind the brazen and bizarre heist, which has gone down as one of the most famous in history, is now coming to theaters in American Animals, out Friday.

“Lots of people make bad decisions when they’re young and nothing comes of those mistakes,” Spencer Reinhard, one of the group’s two original organizers, tells People. “In our instance, we picked something a little more extreme and...

'American Animals' Trailer: Amateur Heist of a Rare Books Library Goes Off the Rails
American Animals (2018)
A group of college students mount a heist to steal $12 million worth of rare books from their school’s library in the pulsing trailer for American Animals.

The second feature from Bart Layton, whose con artist documentary The Imposter made a splash upon its 2012 release, dramatizes the true story of four students from Transylvania University in Kentucky who, drawing inspiration from Guy Ritchie’s film Snatch, staged the amateur robbery in 2004. Their aim: to steal the library’s original copies of John James Audubon’s Birds of America and Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, each of which has a...

‘American Animals’ First Trailer: Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan Try to Pull Off A $10 Million Heist
Der Blender - The Imposter (2012)
With “The Imposter” director Barry Layton making his narrative feature debut and rising indie stars like Barry Keoghan, Evan Peters, and Blake Jenner front and center, “American Animals” definitely needs to be on the radar of all indie movie fans this summer. The crime thriller earned solid reviews at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where The Orchard and MoviePass teamed up to acquire the title in a reported $3 million deal.

“American Animals” is based on the true story of four teenagers in Lexington, Kentucky who tried to strike it rich by pulling of a $10 million heist. Keoghan and “American Horror Story” favorite Peters play the two friends at the center of the heist. The plan was to break into a local collage’s special collections library and steal valuable books, including Audubon’s prized “Birds of America,” but the mission didn’t go according to plan.

The 2018 True/False Film Fest Lineup
Around every corner is a new and revealing story. In the case of True/False, you never know if it will come in the form of a film, music performance, art installation, or discussion with a filmmaker or attendee about the truths and untruths around us.

The four-day festival in Columbia, Mo is one of the premier documentary film festivals in the United States. The festival has attracted new and returning talent over the years – even high-profile names like Spike Lee, who attended simply to see a short film made by three Missouri School of Journalism students in 2016. You can watch the short film here. One of the most intriguing elements of the festival is that the festival encourages films that walk the line between nonfiction and fiction (hence, the title of the festival). Previous lineups included fictional films like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and the 2012 horror smash V/H...

Lorrie Moore on Her New Short-Story Collection Bark and Relocating to Nashville
Matthew Perry, Ben Foster, Hilary Swank, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Lauren Graham in Birds of America (2008)
Lorrie Moore orders the fried cheese curds, unable to resist the joke. “I’m having a Proustian journey back to Wisconsin,” she says, as she pushes a forkful of the curds into her mouth. Moore, 57, is the much-revered author of three novels and now a fourth short-story collection, Bark, out this week. After teaching at the University of Wisconsin–Madison for the past 30 years, she has just relocated to Nashville for a job at Vanderbilt University. She’s been there all of four weeks when we meet at Pinewood Social, a restaurant–bar–coffee shop–bowling alley set in a converted trolley barn along the Cumberland River. Before Vanderbilt began its courtship of Moore, finally enticing her to join its creative-writing faculty in January, she had visited Nashville only once. The book tour for Birds of America, which established Moore as a master of the short-story form, brought her there...

Lorrie Moore Talks Watching Television and How Leisureliness Can Allow for Great Storytelling
Matthew Perry, Ben Foster, Hilary Swank, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Lauren Graham in Birds of America (2008)
Lorrie Moore is best known as a lauded writer of fiction, of razor-edged, beautifully wrought short stories published in collections like "Birds of America" and "Like Life" and novels like "Anagrams" and "Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?" But she's also become an unexpected and interesting chronicler and analyzer of television, in essays that can span both the personal and the critical. Here she is in the New York Review of Books dwelling on "Homeland" and how "shared torment is not enough for love between spies." In another piece at the same outlet, now locked away behind a paywall, she described discussing "Friday Night Lights" at a party, and how it was "the brooding, beautiful, and slightly doomed Tim Riggins, handsome as a statue and bleakly craving goodness, about whom no one could stop talking." Here, on "The Wire." As overused as the term "golden age of television" has become,...

Hilary Swank's "Resident" Evil, the Second Flight of "Black Swan," and More New DVDs
"The Resident" (2011)

Directed by Antti Jokinen

Released by Image Entertainment

This actually isn't the first time Hilary Swank has seen one of her films go direct to DVD after the films "Red Dust" and "Birds of America" suffered the same fate, but surely there was more riding on this horror film from the resurgent Hammer Films about a recently separated doctor who learns her Brooklyn loft isn't quite as wonderful as she thought it would be. "Secretary" screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson co-wrote this film, which co-stars Christopher Lee, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Lee Pace.

"The Mikado" (1939)

Directed by Victor Schertzinger

Released by Criterion Collection

"Topsy-Turvy" (1999)

Directed by Mike Leigh

Released by Criterion Collection

Sold separately, Criterion is making no secret of trying to appeal to Gilbert and Sullivan fanatics with special editions of "The Mikado," a straight-up adaptation of the musical duo's most famous opera, and Mike Leigh's "Topsy-Turvy,...

Hollywood’s 9 Hottest Young Black Stars
After a decade in which more black actors won Academy Awards than in the past seventy years combined, 2011 represents a setback: the Oscars failed to nominate a single black artist, and Vanity Fair's influential “Young Hollywood” cover featured a single black performer.

So here at NextMovie, we're gonna celebrate Black History Month by highlighting the hottest, up-and-coming young black actors. These nine-under-30 might not all be household names yet, but we think they represent the next generation of Anthony Mackies, Zoe Saldanas, and Will Smiths (literally).

Gabourey Sidibe

Sidibe's Academy-Award nomination for her debut performance in "Precious" sends her to the top our list. She may be 27, but Sidibe's making a name for herself playing teens on the big screen (she co-stars opposite Zoe Kravitz in the upcoming indie drama "Yelling to the Sky," which premieres at the Berlin Film Fest this month) and on premium cable with the always-amazing...

Hilary Swank Horror Flick 'The Resident' Pretty Much Going Straight To DVD
Hilary Swank
It's been a hard fall for two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank. Ever since she took her second statue for Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby" way back in 2004, she's had a string of bad films, bad luck or both. Brian DePalma's "The Black Dahlia" had all the pieces of a great movie but was done in by the director pushing every facet of the production into hysterics. "Freedom Writers" was an ill-advised attempt to go into "Dangerous Minds" territory and while she scored a hit with the manipulative romantic dramedy "P.S. I Love You," the indie flick "Birds Of America"…...

Hilary Swank Unwittingly Bares Hairy Armpits at Red Carpet Event
Busy schedule of promoting her new movie "Conviction" apparently has made Hilary Swank forget to clean her hairy armpits before she stepped out for a recent red carpet event. The 36-year-old beauty flashed her tufty underarms as she donned a gold sleeveless Calvin Klein dress.

Swank was unaware that her hairy armpits drew cameras' attention when she struck a pose at the red carpet of Elle Magazine's Women in Hollywood Tribute party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles on Monday night, October 18. Though so, the "Birds of America" actress wasn't the first beauty caught in the hairy-armpits faux pas.

Julia Roberts unwittingly revealed her hairy armpits during the 1999 London premiere of "Notting Hill" while Drew Barrymore showed hers at a Marc Jacobs fashion show in 2005. Moreover, Beyonce Knowles joined the list of hairy-armpits faux pas following the premiere of her movie "Cadillac Records" in 2008.

Her hairy-armpits faux pas aside,...

American New Wave 25: Zoe Kravitz
Her father can say that he has been in an Oscar-winning film called Precious, but I'd say Zoë Kravitz definitely has a leg up on her musician father when it comes to acting. Slowly building her career with bit, supporting parts in No Reservations, The Brave One and indie films Assassination of a High School President, Birds of America and The Greatest, this indiegrrl actress is looking towards a very bright future. I remember her mother Lisa Bonet being notoriously slammed for her part in an Alan Parker film - I hope she's vicariously claiming victory with her daughter's ascension up the ranks. 2010 sees Kravitz beef up in the role departments. She began the year in Sundance preeming Twelve, showed up at Tribeca with Beware the Gonzo, got a sweet part in Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's It's Kind of a Funny Story which is poised to appear at some major festival this fall,...

Hilary Swank Starring in John Carpenter's 'Fangland'
There has been renewed interest in John Carpenter over the past few years - a new Fog, a pretty intense Assault on Precinct 13 remake, the Rob Zombie Halloween flicks, and upcoming fresh starts for Escape from New York and The Thing. But Carpenter himself has not been very active lately, until now.

Cinema Blend says he'll direct Hilary Swank in an adaptation of the John Marks novel Fangland. As you might have guessed, it's a vampire flick. Swank has won a couple Oscars, but since Million Dollar Baby, there hasn't been, well, anything to take note of.

The Black Dahlia might be the worst major film of Brin De Palma's career (and that's saying something), Freedom Writers is no great shakes, The Reaping is embarrassing, Birds of America never made it to theaters, P.S. I Love You sucked, and Amelia was a bad, bad biopic. So maybe she's overdue?...

Gurinder Chadha at an event for Paris, je t'aime (2006)
Sundance announces additions to '10 slate
Gurinder Chadha at an event for Paris, je t'aime (2006)
The Sundance Institute announced Monday three late additions to the 2010 Sundance film festival program, running Jan. 21-31.

The new films are "It's a Wonderful Afterlife," a comedy directed by Gurinder Chadha and written by Paul Mayeda Berges and Chadha; "The Romantics," a comedy directed by Galt Niederhoffer, who adapted the script from her own novel; and "The Kids Are Alright," directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who wrote the screenplay with Stuart Blumberg.

All three films are world premieres that will screen out of competition, and all three filmmakers have had their work screened at Sundance in the past.

"When the opportunity to screen the latest films from three extremely innovative storytellers presented itself, we knew we could not deny our audiences," said festival director John Cooper. "As an added bonus, all three are alumni of the festival, so we are thrilled to be able to support them returning to Sundance with their newest work.
