A Jitney Romance

Daddy wants Florence Gilbert to marry wealthy William Blaisdell. Instead she loves Monty Banks. Apprised of this, Banks and pal Sid Smith set out in their untrusty auto to get them to the church on time to stop the wedding.

They had been making comedies about untrustworthy autos for some time. Over at the Roach studio, Harold Lloyd had been making good ones, and the Roach gag writers were always ready to sink a car in a pothole. With such a fertile field for an audience that included an expanding middle class that could appreciate a funny car, Banks made this one for his new staring series at Warner Brothers. There are some pretty good gags, too.
